THE SILVER SIGNAL Next Club Meeting March 28 th 2014 7:30 p.m. Lone Star Club Executive Officers Ellen Jackson ellen_jackson@sil.org President Dave Totzke totzke4@hotmail.com Vice-President Ivan Santos Secretary Robert Jordan bobby.jordan@tx.rr.com Treasurer http://www.lonestartreasure.com/index.shtml Message from the Prez.Ellen Jackson Spring has arrived and we are happy for the return of better hunt conditions. The new year of club competitions and open hunts has also started. We ll have information on several upcoming events at our meeting on Friday, March 28. Plan to be there! The TAMDC treasure show in Sweetwater, TX is coming fast April 5 & 6. We ve ordered a new, bigger banner for our club area. We ve chosen a great trio of silver prizes for our fund raiser. Tickets are $1 apiece and will be on sale coming meeting. Remember that you don t have to be in Sweetwater to win. We hope you ll all support your club by buying a few tickets. We also welcome any loans of display cases of your best/interesting finds that we can show on our tables. Every year the judges select the club with the best display. Take note now that our April meeting will not be at our usual club location in Irving. The Garden & Arts Center will be undergoing renovations, so the committee has arranged an alternate location. We ll be meeting April 25 at the Garrett company headquarters in Garland. The address is 1881 W State St, Garland, TX. The meeting will start at 7:30 as usual. Be aware that Saturday, March 29 is the annual It s My Park Day in Dallas from 9:00-12:00. Many volunteers will be out cleaning the parks. If you want to join them that would be great. If you hunt a park, be friendly and willing to answer questions from the curious. See you at the meeting!
Our Guest Speaker for the March Meeting Is Rose-Mary Rumbley is a rock star among Dallas' speakers. Her lively speeches and informative neighborhood history tours are sellouts months in advance. Her breadth of knowledge about all things Dallas is spectacular. Historian, humorist, author and actress, Rumbley, who appeared in the movie Paper Moon, is this area's most in-demand public speaker. Making more than 300 appearances a year at church groups, community colleges, book review clubs, senior centers and business luncheons, Rumbley can make any subject fascinating. She speaks with authority on dozens of topics: Dallas parks, the history of Oak Cliff, old-time radio, vaudeville, Broadway shows, Sam Houston, Texas' smalltown food festivals and many others. She's written a book, Century of Class, about the history of public education in Dallas, and wrote The Unauthorized History of Dallas for the city's 150th birthday in 1991. Always on the move, Rumbley recently completed a trip along Route 66, gathering material for another book. Forget retirement. Dr. Rumbley's always ready to rumble.
