Well, maybe it is the heat. Took the day Wednesday for a quick trip to Meridian for a play date and instead of sitting inside for some nice, relaxing (air conditioned!) stitching, we cranked up the electric skillets on high and hung over hot wax to do some batiking. At least we were painting the fabrics and not dying them so we avoided the heat of the wash-outs. The rain passed us by over there so the yard where we laid the fabrics out was bright and colorful and cheery. For those of you interested in experimenting with batik, I highly recommend the soy wax. No hours of ironing or boiling to remove the wax! In these "lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer" one of my favorite things to do is grab a glass of iced tea and some hand work and settle into a comfortable chair with some good tunes for background and go to town on my stitching. You'll be amazed how much work you can get done while avoiding the heat! Rhonda June Hostess are: Julie Hendrick Roanoke McDonald Rosemary Taylor Hostess for June Meeting Website Www.jacksonquilters.com Fat Quarter Winner Is Lillie Plummer She Wants BLUE June s Program will be given by Continental Sewing The topic will be the different needles and thread that are available. Please share any projects that you started at the June Gathering.

Minutes of April 26, 2010 Standing in for our absent President Rhonda Blasingame, Dorinda Evans opened our meeting with a prayer for the Blasingame family, Diane Loper s Father passing away, and Suzanne Pipkin s recent surgery and Jean Pitts relocation to Texas. Our guest was Sybil Keys and new Member is Lillie Plummer. Announcements There will be quilts hanging in the Agricultural and Forestry museum. Right now there are 20 hanging. Members Joan Alliston and Georgia Polk have been working on this effort. There will be an open house on Saturday, June 26th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with program given by Carol Vickers. Just a last reminder about the June Gathering on June 4th and 5th at Christ United Methodist Church. Member Dorinda Evans will be teaching a Scrappy Star class. Charity Projects Gwen Harris reported on the Ronald McDonald Bags Diantha Stafford reported on her Quilts of Valor Challenge. She is donating 10 quilts and is asking members to meet her challenge. Dorinda asked for a report on the Yazoo City Tornado Victim Quilt project. Diane Jordan has volunteered to provide backing and quilting for the project. She only asked to reimbursed for her backing and batting. Marcella Comans assembled this quilt. This project is made entirely of scraps from her studio. Mona Crowell assembled this quilt made from member block donations.

Charity Quilts (cont.) Block of the Month This note came from Diane Cameron. I ve been told we have 6 large quilts. That will be enough quilts for the tornado charity quilts. Polly and I had talked about this and we both agreed to finish what we have and be done with the large quilts by the end of June. Summer is here and didn't want to tie people down with extra sewing due to vacations and other things. I have 3 names so far and I will be talking to my contact to get at least 3 more names. Please pass this info on to the group. This note from Lucy Large regarding Quilts of Valor: I shipped 4 quilts on Monday, June 14th and I have 4 more quilts to prepare to ship. If you are submitting a quilt, please take the time to make a pillow case for it. Thank you. Previous Minutes Lynn Flanders moved we accept the April minutes as printed. Diantha Stafford seconded the motion. Treasurer s Report Mary Trest was unable to attend, but contacted Polly Duggan who gave the report written on the back of her grocery store receipt. The balance is $4,387.14 Sit and Sew The next sit and sew will be on June 9th from 9:00 am to around noon time. Please join us if you can. Program The program was given by Lucy Large on How To Print Labels on your Home computer and printer. A hand out was passed out by Lucy entitled Frequently Ask Questions, and making labels for your quilt. She demonstrated with Bubble Jet 2000 solution baths, laptop and printer. Polly Duggan gave a brief history of the Sudoku Puzzle. It was originated in England and then became popular in Japan. Cut fabric squares and lay out in a Sudoku configuration throughout the quilt. Your pattern can come from the morning paper. Sarah McCormick, Linda Smith and Mona Crowell were the lucky people. Don t forget if you have a June, Nov, or Dec birthday you need to bring a door prize. Polly Duggan and Isabell Adams Door Prizes Jetta Williams Quilts
