Utilizing the wireless LAN enables the following new features. 1-1 Weather Information by C-Weather C-Weather is a free weather service by Jeppesen Marine, Italy. The C-Weather service provides weather coverage throughout the world. GP1870F Wireless Internet Connection Plotter Screen with Weather 1-2 Chart Plotter Link by Plan2Nav App The GP1870F v2.0.3 also supports ad-hoc communication with an ios device such as ipad or iphone. Here is another wireless solution in combination with the Jeppesen Marine Plan2Nav app. The latest Plan2Nav app on the App Store has a Chart Plotter Link feature, which allows the GP1870F to display images on a wirelessly connected ios device (remote operation is not available). Your ios device can be utilized as a remote display of the GP1870F. 2
Note: (1) Only one ios device can be wirelessly connected to the GP1870F. (2) The GP1870F does not support connection to Android devices. (3) Remote operation of the GP1870F is not available over an ios device with the Plan2Nav app. 1-3 Important Notice on Wireless LAN The built-in wireless LAN is approved for use in the US (FCC) and Europe (CE). Australia and New Zealand are under process. For other areas, only use the GP1870F with the wireless LAN turned off. In [MENU] [GENERAL] [WIRELESS CONNECTION], you can access the [WIRELESS CONNECTION SETUP] page to turn the wireless LAN setting on or off. By default, the wireless LAN is off as shown above. You can see the indication of [Wireless On] on the bottom right of the screen. The wireless LAN will be turned on by pressing [Wireless On]. 2. Points / Routes / Tracks 3-1 Searching Points & Routes by Partial Match The GP1670F/GP1870F v2.0.3 offers improved search capability for the point and route database. Previously, the entire point or route name was required for a search. Now a partial file name can be used to search saved points and routes. In this example, only [1] is entered for a search. The point named [GP1870] including 1 is highlighted. 3-2 Filtering Points by Icon Shape and Name The GP1670F/GP1870F v2.0.3 allows you to find a point from the list by sorting the database by icon shape and name. In [MENU] [PLOTTER] [POINTS] [Points List], filtering options are available as shown at left. See the following examples for the filtering procedures. 4
Filtering by ICON Filtered by ICON In this example, points with a [ ] shape will be filtered; click [ICON] and select [ ]. Only the points with this shape will be listed. Filtering by NAME Filtered by NAME In this example, points including G in name will be Only the points including G will be listed. filtered; click [Name] and enter [G]. Tip: The filtered points list can be deactivated by clicking [NONE]. 5
3-3 Suppressing 0 from Point Name Indication A point will be named with PT0000x by default. When there are many named points shown on the plotter screen, it can be more convenient to have shorter names indicated. You can now suppress 0 from the indication on the plotter screen. To utilize this feature, access [MENU] [PLOTTER] [HANDLING ZERO] and select [Zero Suppress] (Default: [Zero Padding]). Zero Padding (Default) Zero Suppress A point name is registered as PT0001, while the full name is indicated on the plotter screen. The plotter screen simply shows the point name as PT1 by suppressing 000 from the full name. Note: Regardless of the zero suppress setting, the points list shows each point in full name. 3-4 All Points Shown on Screen in Long Range With v1.05 or earlier, when multiple points are entered on a plotter screen, several points were not shown in longer ranges. The GP1670F/GP1870F v2.0.3 shows all points, regardless of the range. See the following example with screenshots. Short Range (All Points) Long Range (v2.0.3) Long Range (v1.05 or earlier) Five (5) points are entered. All of them are shown in short ranges. In long ranges, all the points are shown. According to the results of the safety check, you can edit the route to navigate around the areas marked as unsafe. Here is how a route is checked. 1. Access [MENU] [PLOTTER] [ROUTE CHECK]. 2. Here is an example of network with the GP1670F/GP1870F and FCV627/FCV587. The FCV627/FCV587 can output the TLL sentence in NMEA0183 format with proprietary ACCU-FISH and bottom discrimination information enclosed. The IF-NMEA2K2 v1.04 or later converts it to NMEA2000 and transfers it to the GP1670F/GP1870F v2.0.3. The GP1670F/GP1870F receives the point with ACCU-FISH and bottom discrimination data. 4.
