December is known around the world as a family time of celebration honoring cultures, religions and traditions that have been with humanity for hundreds of years. We all may celebrate differently, but we have one thing in common: getting together with those we love to share a meal and create wonderful memories. December is the busiest month of the year filled with shopping, decorating and cooking. December 21st is the official start of winter, but winter doesn t necessarily wait till then to make an appearance. Did you know that an almanac prediction states that if snow falls on Christmas Day, Easter will be warm, green and sunny? Also, it is considered good luck if you have spiders or find a spider web on Christmas. The month ends on a reflective note with New Year s Eve, where we celebrate, look back on the year and make resolutions for the year ahead.

Thursday, December 10 Once again, Siena Sam has been sent to Siena to report back to Santa Claus how the residents of Siena are behaving and whether they should they be on the naughty or nice list. Saturday, December 12 Come and see the Gloria Frances Dancers Holiday Performance. Community Room 3:00pm All Welcome Based on a book by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell, the story describes how Santa's "scout elves" hide in people's homes to watch over events. Once everyone goes to bed, the scout elf flies back to the North Pole to report to Santa the activities, good and bad, that have taken place throughout the day. Before the family wakes up each morning, the scout elf flies back from the North Pole and hides. By hiding in a new spot each morning around the house, the scout elf and the family play an on-going game of hide and seek. Here at Siena, Sam can be found in a new spot every week day beginning: December 14th through December 22nd. If you are the lucky resident to find Sam, take the ticket he is carrying and leave Sam in his spot. Bring the ticket to the offices located in the basement of Building 1 and receive your surprise! We are limiting prizes to one per resident to increase participation. So once you have discovered Siena Sam and turned the ticket in to the office staff, we ask that you refrain from further claims so that your friends and neighbors can continue the fun! Good luck and keep searching (and being good!!) Siena Village Voice Page 5
