Harmony in Green by Eleanor Devlin My inspiration is Claude Monet's "Japanese Bridge, Harmony in Green," 1899. To me, the green in his painting evokes peacefulness and calm, with some mystery because of the dark colors but also hopefulness with the dots of color. Machine pieced. Machine quilted.
Winter by Lisa Jenni Blue is my favorite color, but I couldn't tell why. I suppose it speaks to me, maybe because I love winter and the light this season brings with it. The original painting Haus in Wintersonne (1909) is typical scenery in the village of Murnau in the Bavarian Alps. In 1909, Gabriele was Wassily Kandinsky s girlfriend, and, together with several other well-known artists, the core members of the artist s movement Der Blauer Reiter. Machine pieced. 1403 What Would We Do Without Color in ur Lives? by Margaret Kamikawa What fun it was to select the fabrics for this quilt. In creating this piece I "played," having fun and no worries. Machine pieced. Machine appliquéd. Machine quilted.
Celebration by Mary Lewis Inspiration: "Silent River Passage," by Linda Frimer. Color Scheme - Triadic - magenta, yellow, turquoise. These colors have in common the ability to evoke fascination, enthusiasm, happiness, hope, healing and creativity. Turquoise also creates a place to rest and heal. Machine appliquéd. Machine quilted.
Henri by Dionne Matthies-Buban The color inspiration for this challenge quilt was "Harmony In Red," by Henri Matisse. The original painting gave me a sense of contentment, balance and fulfillment. All is well and beautiful (and very red) on the inside, and all is well (and pastoral) on the outside, through the window. I decided to challenge myself further by incorporating not only the colors of Matisse's painting but also the large majority of red used in the piece. Using a word from the painting's title, I hope to convey a sense of harmony, perfection, beauty. Machine pieced. Machine quilted.
Poppy Field by Anina McMurdo I love to interpret classic quilt designs in bright and modern fabrics. I took mostly the vibrant colors from this painting by Georgia Keefe as my inspiration for this little, otherwise traditional, quilt. Hand pieced. Machine quilted.
River Flow by Maria Michurina For this challenge I chose Claude Monet's painting "Regatta at Argenteuil." The gradation of blue on it is associated with an odor of a river, a slight breeze. It's air and life. The green is the color of fragrant herb, harmony and peace. The combination of white, cream and shades from yellow to saturated red brings me feeling of shining sun and happiness. Machine pieced. Machine quilted.
Channeling Cezanne by Carol Paschal Cezanne is one of my favorite Impressionist painters. I especially like his still life paintings. His use of bold, flat colors inspires me. I am especially mesmerized any time he uses orange. The still life "Apples and ranges" inspired this quilt. I wanted to use shapes - particularly circles - to convey the vibrant feeling of the painting. Machine pieced. Machine appliquéd. Machine quilted.
Summer Garden by Charlotte Tucker The greeting card "Summer Garden" was the inspiration. I always wondered how to construct a woven curved checkerboard meadow, so this was my chance. I dug out an article published in Quilters Newsletter from March, 2008, and followed the instructions of Frances Miller to create my own Summer Garden piece. The flowers were three leftover pins that I had given to my 2010 Board members. Machine pieced. Machine appliquéd. Machine quilted. Credit: Frances Miller's March, 2008, article in Quilters Newsletter
