BACK-TO-SCHOOL VIDEO INTERVIEW INTRODUCTION If you really want to capture the essence that is your child each year, think about doing a back-to-school video interview! Videos capture your child s personality and quirks and stories way more than a sheet paper with a few basic questions. Doing a back-to-school interview allows you to have fun asking your child some questions about who they are now and hope to be in the future. On the next three pages you ll find suggested questions to ask Younger Kids (ages 3-6), Elementary Kids (6-11), and Older Kids (11-18). Feel free to adapt and adjust and remove and add questions. And be sure to ask follow-up questions naturally as you go along. Please note that I ve also included religious-type questions as they are personally valuable to me and my family. Ask your own religious-based questions as you see fit. I personally love seeing how my child s testimony and understanding God changes and deepens over the years. SHOOTING THE VIDEO Prep your child and tell them to relax, that you just want to ask them some questions about themselves because you love getting to know them and want to remember them as they are right now forever. Ask them to talk loudly and clearly and stay seated on their chair. Prep the shot by setting your child up in a well-lit area (bring in an extra lamp or spotlight if needed) with their faces toward any light sources, rather than having the light source behind them. Use a tripod if you have one to keep the camera steady. Focus the camera lens on your child, sit behind the camera, and hit record! Rephrase questions if they are confusing to your child (I tried to write the Younger Kids questions in such a way that they d understand) or move along if your child doesn t know or doesn t have an answer. This interview is NOT supposed to be a test or be perfect! It s just supposed to be a fun way to remember your child, in this moment, for years to come. At the end the video be sure to remind them how you feel about them. Tell them you love them and some your favorite things about them, as well as your favorite things you do together. You can also add what you re excited for them to learn this year. Good luck and enjoy interviewing your kids! KATELYN FAGAN OF WHATSUPFAGANS.COM

Build a Healthy Lunch Printable While I want my kids to be self-sufficient and pack their own lunches, I also want to make sure they know what it means to pack a HEALTHY lunch. This printable hangs inside our pantry door to remind them what each component a balanced meal is, and what kinds foods fill each requirement. Kids should pack two items from each the larger circles and one item from the smaller circles. Sometimes items overlap-especially in the snack category-and that is okay. This has helped my kids do better with their lunchboxesand that means I don t have to do it. Double win! What I mainly didn t want to give you was a useless set printables that wouldn t, at the very least, spark some ideas on things you would want to do or get done. The last few pages in my book Supporting Success I discuss how to utilize these printables the best. This just gives you an easy way to print them f. This is just a portion the printables available in my book. Plus, the book comes with tons information on how to best support your child as you navigate the school year. The emergency contact form will help you write down the same info on all the paperwork. I m always flipping through my phone, but now you ll have it in ONE spot. The daily schedule is great for moms with kids at multiple schools. Knowing when classes start/end make scheduling appointments so much easier (as well as pickup!) Learn more here: http://www.pullingcurls.com/school-mom Hope you find them helpful! Hilary
