11 Which mobile phone do you own? TAPE 1 5:37 I use an Iphone for just about everything. And I love it. 5:47 Through that. Pretty much just through that. 5:53 Would that be just phone calls or would that be through social media sites or would that be All of the above. I Facebook, I Twitter, email, phone, just about everything. 19:41 Well, I ve got my Iphone, that s, well I use it for business and personal stuff. I ve got broadband at home so I connect to the wireless. I use it for everything really. Email. Everything. Music. 119:59 Iphone.
20:03 Laptop? No, I don t like carrying heavy things. I have to carry various papers anyway, so I rarely take my laptop away. I ve got to go with my work from place to place and I don t like the tubes, I like to use buses or walk, I just don t like carrying it around. 20:22 So you say you rely on the phone do you think any other phone would be as good as the Iphone? Not at the moment no. 29:24 I ve got my HDC Desire HD, which is an android phone. I use it for almost everything basically. Making phone calls, browsing the internet, watching movies, listening to music, downloading torrentz, anything really. 29:41 I use Google, Gmail, GooglePlus, Facebook. 29:50 And that ll be through? Through my phone 36:18
Blackberry, as I say I use it for everything really. I use my Ipad if I m looking something up but for emailing, I tend to use my Blackberry a lot more. 36:32 Blackberry, BBM, phone calls occasionally, I don t like texting very much I tend to call people if I can, emails most of the time I would say. 36:45 And is this done on your phone? Phone, Ipad sometimes if I have a chance to sit down. 36:51 How do you consume media? Usually online for the most part. I buy magazines quite a lot but that s more editorial stuff like the New Yorker, I read The Monacle, but yeah for news whatever It is generally BBC News Online, stuff like that. 37:07 So you tend to watch it online rather than live? I read it online yeah, I don t have time to watch TV. Answered above. 46:08
On my Blackberry, so that is phone calls, Blackberry messenger, SMS and WhatsApp as well. 46:20 So you wouldn t take your laptop as well? Yes, I do. Phone and my laptop. 59:06 Iphone 59:09 How do you use it? Text, internet, email, I have a few apps but not many, just tube and a few, social networking, twitter, absolutely not Facebook. II just don t like Facebook. It s not for me. 59:39 Have you tried it? No, I ve never set one up, and I nor am I likely to. It just doesn t do anything for me. Twitter is different. I can tweet about exhibitions I ve got work in etcetera, and it s fine for me, and the whole things about being friends and sending messages, I just wouldn t do it, and anyway, I use Twitter and one s enough, nobody needs more than one. 1:00:08 Mobile phone. 1:00:12
So you d never take a laptop around with you? I d take it to the studio with me, for photographs it s much easier, I ve got to hold all my photographs on there and because of my work I m often emailing images to people so I ll take it to and from the studio, I take it if I go away for a long time but not if I m just going for the weekend. TAPE 2 08:01.23 [00:08:07.04]I have the Iphone, the Blackberry and the old Nokia. Older. 08:15.03 Why the Nokia? [00:08:17.00]Just works better. 08:18.13 [00:08:22.19] With friends? Me? Or... 08:26.00 As in, would it be on your phone, or laptop... [00:08:33.23]I would use any kind of means. Sometimes I text, sometimes I email, sometimes just BBM. Just, all of them. 19:00.17
[00:19:03.09]I've got a Blackberry and I use it for everything. Use it for emails, texts, I text a lot, so you could say it's texting mainly, apps, I've got a thing when i'm bored I just download apps. It could be an application for searching maps or something or it could be an app for puzzle solving. I like to keep the brain working. It could be for anything but I do spend a lot of time on it just doing random things on it. It's my livelihood. 19:33.04 Why Blackberry? [00:19:35.23]It's smart, I like the whole sophistication, the business type thing, and I think Blackberry fist that rather than an Apple Iphone. I don't like those. 19:45.19 Why? [00:19:47.01] I just dont like the whole touchscreen thing. I've got a Blackberry Torch which it does with touchscreen but I can use the keypad if I need to so. Just dont like fingerprints. Gives me the option so that's why I like Blackberry over an Iphone. 19:59.08 [00:20:01.08]Texting. A lot of texting. I prefer texting than calling. Purely because, it's kinda rude, but you can ignore people when they're texting you, you don't always have to give them a response immediately, so it gives you the freedom to control the communication you have. 20:18.03 Have you got a good deal on your Blackberry? [00:20:20.17]I think so. As I said before, as a kid you don't really know the value of money so your bills run up, so I got a good deal from O2. They've got a Simplicity thing where I get unlimited texts so I don't send about threee thousand texts a month so it keeps the bills down so yeah. I'm actually quite well.
[00:27:38.16] [00:27:40.13]I have a Blackberry Bold and I mainly use it for texting and calls but I also access my emails but I do access the internet quite a bit, like GoogleMaps, things like that I find really useful. [00:27:54.12 ] [00:27:56.19] With my Blackberry. I stay in touch with people a lot even when I'm abroad I use my Blackberry so... [00:35:08.10] Which mobile phone/s do you own and how do you use them? [00:35:12.14] Think it's a Samsung. It's a basic one and I use it quite a lot so...quite a lot. [00:35:20.23] Is that just for making phone calls? [00:35:22.09] And texting [00:35:24.18] Do you ever use the internet on your phone? [00:35:25.24] No [00:35:27.14] [00:35:29.07] The mobile phone. [00:35:31.05] Do you ever take a laptop around? [00:35:32.23] No
[00:51:15.01] Which mobile phone/s do you own and how do you use them? [00:51:20.01] As a family, Samsung, Iphone, Blackberry, HTC How do you use your mobile? How do I use it? I use it for Internet browsing, I use it for keeping up to date a little, I dn't spend a lot of time on Twitter and Facebook, I may only look every couple of days, something like that. Email. [00:51:45.24] [00:51:53.03] On the go, I will use my phone but if I'm travelling on the go, I'll check my emails on that. [01:00:11.22] Which mobile phone/s do you own and how do you use them? [01:00:15.02] Iphone is what I use and just purely because the operating system and the interfacing, a good interface, that doesnt mean that I'd stick with that. I would look at Android quite closely over the next few monthes to see what's happening there. I think there are changes happening, players moving in in that area that would make you think Android as well. [01:00:52.15] [01:00:55.11] Email, Skype, Viper, VPN, all sorts of stuff Can you just tell me what a VPN and Viper are? Viper is very similar to Skype but it comes to your mobile phone, so there's a community of Viper users that might grow quite rapidly, like a privte group of people and VPN is how you would connect to your server. It's a virtual private network.
So you can you just go through the mobile phone? Yeah I can go through the mobile phone yeah TAPE 3 8:10 Which mobile phone do you have? I have an iphone. 8:12 In which way do you use it? I use it to organise my life basically, and keep all my contacts as well as effectively doing things from anything, from conference calls to the point now where I m actually thinking about getting rid of my home line, I don t see any point in having it anymore, the whole family have unlimited accounts and there s no point in us really having we all have our own personal number. 8:38 So how do you communicate when you re on the go? By mobile phone, email, text, picture text messaging that sort of thing, depending on what I need to do and who I m sending it to. 16:53 BlackBerry and I love it and I will not leave home without it. 17:00
What do you use it for? I use it primarily for emails and BlackBerry messenger, I d like to say I surf the net on it but not so much, it s not so good for that but I think you re out of the loop if you re not on BlackBerry messenger and I think Whatsapp sucks, and emails primarily. 17:17 My BlackBerry, I carry my BlackBerry and two spare batteries wherever I go, when I travel and otherwise on the laptop when I m in the rooms and stuff. 24:36 Which mobile phone do you own? BlackBerry Bold and Apple iphone4, And how do you use them? Iphone is for playing around with and just my general phone, BlackBerry is just for work. I tend to play more games on my iphone when I ve got nothing else to do, yeah I don t know. 24:59 Email, instant messaging, phone, text, you name it, with technology as it is now you can communicate pretty much anyway you want, so I make sure I try and use all of them depending on obviously who I m trying to get in touch with. 33:10 Which mobile phone do you own and what do you use it for? It's an iphone so I use it for messaging and emails.
And anything else you use it for? I don't often access the web on it, I usually do that at home. Yeah. 33:30 When I've got a Kindle, I like my Kindle as well, I don't communicate with my iphone. How is the Kindle? It's good but I still prefer a nice book. Still prefer a book and I like shelves with books on. [00:40:42.13] Which mobile phone do you have? [00:40:46.20] I've got a Samsung mobile phone and I haven't had it very long and I'm finding I'm getting my way round it and it's brilliant. I text a reasonable amount, I don't use it, I don't phone a lot on my mobile, it's just for having it with me today or whoever but I do text quite a lot and it's quite useful now with travelling quite a bit, to be able to look at my emails quite a bit. Did you say you had an Iphone or an Ipad? No, I've got a pad but that's a Samsung as well. It's the one that you know, I actually bought it in the States so I think it's just come out here, so again, it's the same as the Ipad, but it's a Samsung one. [00:41:28.07] So how do you communicate when you re on the go? [00:41:30.14]Text really, yeah. [00:47:16.09] Which mobile phone do you have?
[00:47:19.08] I own a Blackberry, and I own an old Nokia. I use the Blackberry for emails, and the Nokia for everything else. How do you find the Blackberry? Very good. Apart from the fact that's it's bust. The casing breaks. [00:47:37.07] So how do you communicate when you re on the go? [00:47:40.06] Blackberry messenger, text, email. [00:55:20.12] Which mobile phone do you have? [00:55:24.18] I don't know what I use it for, but it's still going strong. It's a simple, classic one. Are you not tempted by any brands or the latest technology? Well, I know how much this costs me. I can control it. Everything is about being careful so I don't get into debt, so I don't get overspent, so if the boiler goes, which it does, I can sort that out. I'm always, I like to be prepared like three months in advance. Is this something that has developed recently? No, I don't think I was always with that. I'm a sixties girl. We were far more carefree. We didn't have money problems, you fell out of one job and fell into another. People would ring you up, offer you a job, everything was nice. And the thing is, you can see I'm a bit older, I don't work for anybody but I'm very happy to have a professional activity, which is what the web offers me. [00:56:26.12] [00:56:30.04] Telephone
TAPE 4 6:54 Nokia and Blackberry 6:59 How do you use them? What do you do with them? My phone? I just use it to call people. But also I travel a lot, so I have international chips, so I just use it for my phone all over. 7:13 So apart from calling, what else do you do on it? No, my BlackBerry I use it for the Internet and for my work and for, because you know I have to send pictures and things like that. 7:25 How do you communicate when you re out and about? BlackBerry. Yeah. 7:30 [inaudible] It depends if it s family and friends or if, it depends if it s work so it could be. 7:38 So they would both be used? Yeah, but it s by phone. Usually it s by phone and email, emails and phone
