Benefit Fundraiser for The Sue Ferguson Gussow Scholarship Fund for a Merit-Based Full Scholarship to The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union Gerri Davis

The Sue Ferguson Gussow Scholarship Fund Honoring Professor Sue Ferguson Gussow The Sue Ferguson Gussow Scholarship Fund is a Dedicated Endowed Scholarship started in honor of Professor Emerita Sue Ferguson Gussow A 56 by former students, Michael Samuelian AR 95, Anik Pearson AR 95 and Elizabeth Graziolo AR 95. Professor Sue Ferguson Gussow, known to her students as Sue, is one of the longest serving faculty members in The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union. She has touched many with her passion for education and drawing and her dedication to the school and its students. The Gussow Scholarship will be awarded to an incoming Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture student. The endowment will provide a full scholarship in perpetuity for one student. The Architects Draw for the Gussow Fund 2017 Silent Auction is one of many ongoing efforts to raise funds to support this endowment. Sue began her relationship with The Cooper Union as a student in the School of Art, graduating in 1956. She taught in the School of Art starting in 1970 and then joined the School of Architecture faculty in 1980. As a teacher, a mother figure and sometimes muse, Sue inspired countless architecture students to drop the drafting pen and loosen up, drawing freehand with nothing more than a charcoal pencil and newsprint. Her iconic assignments of drawing the mundane - from fruit to trees to dinosaur bones - became a rite of passage for every student in the School of Architecture. Sue s firm, but honest appraisal of drawings was an inspiration to so many students over the years. Sue Ferguson Gussow represents the best of Peter Cooper s legacy of service to the Cooper Union community coupled with the intellectual rigor that has served this institution for over 150 years. As a testament to Sue s legacy of inspiration and education, several former students have donated their favorite drawings to be auctioned so that 100% of the proceeds will contribute directly to the scholarship fund. Many of the drawings donated for auction can be found in Sue s 2008 book, Architects Draw, a compilation of 40 years of Cooper Union student s hand drawings.
