2. Block Center. Sew (2) 1 x 7-1/2 O rectangles to the opposite sides of (1) 7-1/2 B small panel block, followed by (2) 1 x 8-1/2 O rectangles to the remaining opposite sides of small panel block. Block center should measure 8-1/2 x 8-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. 3. HST Units. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 5 O square. Place square, RST, on (1) 5 N square. Sew 1/4 away from drawn line on both sides. Cut along drawn line. Open and press to yield (2) HST Units. Align diagonal seam of HST Units against 45-degree line of quilting ruler, trim units to measure 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. [Note: fabric is directional - note orientation of drawn line if you want to match the direction of stripes to stripes shown in design.] 4. Sew (2) Flying Geese Units to the right and left sides of block center to make Row Unit 1, as shown below. ROW UNIT 1 4a. Sew (2) HST Units to the opposite sides of (1) Flying Geese Unit to make a Row Unit. ROW UNIT 2 ROW UNIT 3 RST = Right Sides Together HST = Half Square Triangles 7

5. Sew row units to make a Star Block. Make a total of (2) Star Blocks. Constructing Churn Dash Blocks (finished size: 6 x 6 ) 1. HST Units. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 3 N square. Place square, RST, on (1) 3 <Print> square. Sew 1/4 away from drawn line on both sides. Cut along drawn line. Open and press to yield (2) HST units. Align diagonal seam of HST Units against 45-degree line of quilting ruler, trim units to measure 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. Make a total of (4) HST Units. 2. Middle Units. Sew together (1) 1-1/2 x 2-1/2 N rectangle and (1) 1-1/2 x 2-1/2 <Print> rectangle to make (1) Middle Unit. Make a total of (4) Middle Units. 3. Sew (2) HST Units to the left and right sides of (1) Middle Unit to make a Row Unit. Make a total of (2) Row Units. 3a. Sew (2) Middle Units to the left and right sides of (1) 2-1/2 A square to make a Row Unit. RST = Right Sides Together HST = Half Square Triangles 8

4. Sew Row Units together to complete (1) Block. 5. Make a total number of blocks in the following A/<Print> combinations: (1) Block: A/C, A/F, A/G, A/H, A/M (2) Blocks: A/I, A/K, A/L Constructing Large Elongated Churn Dash Block (finished size: 12 x 20 ) 1. Pinwheel Units. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 2 <Print> square. Place square, RST, on (1) 2 A square. Sew 1/4 away from drawn line on both sides. Cut along drawn line. Open and press to yield (2) HST units. Align diagonal seam of HST Units against 45-degree line of quilting ruler, trim units to measure 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. Make a total of (4) HST Units. Noting the rotation in the diagram below, sew (2) HST Units together. Then, sew another (2) sewn units to the bottom of previously sewn unit to make a pinwheel unit. Measure 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. 2. Make (1) Pinwheel Unit for each of the following fabric combinations: (A / <Print>) A / K A / J A / M RST = Right Sides Together HST = Half Square Triangles 9

2. Arrange and sew pinwheel units and (2) 2-1/2 A squares into a column. Add (2) 1-1/2 x 10-1/2 A rectangles to the left and right sides of column, followed by (2) 1-1/2 x 4-1/2 A rectangles to the top and bottom of column to make block center. Unit measures 4-1/2 x 12-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. 3. Corner Unit. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 3-1/2 C square. Place square, RST, at a corner of (1) 4-1/2 A square. Sew on drawn line. Trim 1/4 away from sewn line. Open and press to reveal C corner triangle. Repeat to make (2) C and (2) G Corner Units. 4. Middle Unit. Sew together (1) 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 A rectangle and (1) 1-1/2 x 4-1/2 G rectangle to make top and bottom middle units. Make (2). 4a. Sew together (1) 3-1/2 x 12-1/2 A rectangle and (1) 1-1/2 x 12-1/2 C rectangle to make left and right middle units. Make (2). 5. Sew right and left middle units to the opposite sides of block center to make a row unit. 6. Sew (1) C corner unit and (1) G corner unit to the opposite sides of (1) top or bottom middle units to make a row unit. Make (2) row units, and sew to the top and bottom of block center to complete block as shown on next page. RST = Right Sides Together HST = Half Square Triangles 10
