Kn Zapp - Mmorial Kn Zapp had bn a mmbr of th Dallas Camara Club (DCC) sinc 1991 and was in charg of th audio-visual systm. Kn, a Txas Instrumnts' quality nginr, was soft spokn, but th answr to any qustion put to him was rich in information. H was honord as a liftim mmbr of th Dallas Camra Club aftr h was no longr abl to attnd th mtings. Th DCC projctd imag comptitions and AV prsntations wr basd on slid film until 2004 whn digital imags wr addd. Kn cratd an AV systm for th club using multipl Kodak Carousl projctors linkd with a fading dvic and a spcializd casstt tap dck that usd on channl to hold th audio background for th show and th othr to contain th timing signals to run th linkd projctors. Using this systm, it was possibl to hav a show automatd and to prsnt it with background music or voic-ovr whil ach slid appard and thn dissolvd into th nxt. Kn also built a custom audio systm for th club complt with mixing board, mics, amplifirs and spakrs that was usd for many yars. Kn was an arly adoptr of digital slid shows as wll and producd many AV shows which showcasd his crativity. Each that wr sn was a wondr to bhold. Kn introducd mmbrs of th Dallas Camra Club to ProShow Gold a small miracl of AV show cration, on that many mmbr of th DCC bn using vr sinc. Kn had an AV studio st up in his hom that h usd in dvloping his shows. This includd a clost compltly full of soundtrack music and soundffcts. If a mmbr ndd hlp putting togthr ithr a film basd or digital slidshow, Kn oftn invitd thm ovr to his hom to assist thm. Kn was always rady to shar his knowldg, giving numrous prsntations to th club and h providd a guid on how to produc slid shows. I hav lost count of th numbr of tims whn I am in th middl of a shoot that I gt a battry warning. To this xtnt, I vn tak along a spar battry for ach camra. 3. Flash off. Gt in th habit of doing this, as you don t want to scar wildlif or pts by accidntally firing off th flash. 4. Flash battris rchargd aftr ach and vry shoot no xcptions. This is a good ida rgardlss of th wathr or lighting conditions, i.. sunny or cloudy. I don t lik highlights to b blown, and this stting allows m som lway in procssing th imags. 9. St aprtur to wid opn on all lnss. This is th stting I most us for portraits, as it blurs th background nicly whil kping th subjct in sharp focus. 10. St shuttr spd to 1/125 of a scond. This is a dcnt shuttr spd for most of th lnss I us in portraits. As I usually choos a focal lngth of about 90mm, it hlps prvnt camra shak issus. 11. St mod dial to Aprtur Priority. I prfr to shoot in aprtur priority as most of my portrait subjcts ar fairly stationary. 12. St mtring mod to spot or matrix. I find this givs m th bst mtring for th stabl xposur conditions that I work in. 13. St whit balanc to auto. I work with this stting th most; howvr, if I m in my studio, I will normally do a prst with a gry card. You can always adjust accordingly. 18. Rmov any and all filtrs. This prvnts you from laving th polarizing filtr or th nutral dnsity filtr attachd. It s amazing how oftn this happns and it taks a whil to s what th problm is. 19. Chck that th camra body and any/all lnss ar st to auto-focus (unlss you just always us manual focus, in which cas disrgard.) This is a grat tip as you can grab th camra for a quick shot in most situations. 20. Do a quick visual xamination of th camra to look for damag dfcts. I usually chck lns surfacs, th scrn, and vrywhr ls if I v bn out in th rain or wind whn sand is blowing about. 21. Rst additional gar lik tripods, light stands, tc. Chris Kobos Click - Chris Kobos - City Caught in Tim Whn I saw that Gomtric Pattrns was on of th photographic thms for this past yar s comptitions, I dcidd to try to turn my fforts towards somthing a littl diffrnt. Littl did I know that photo I vntually chos to work on was takn not too far away in Frisco, Txas. W stumbld upon an offic park with many art structurs and sculpturs. W took many photos of th art from many diffrnt prospctivs and angls. But it was not until wks latr that I had somthing potntially uniqu. Th pic of unnamd art sn from th bst angl shot had a lot of charactr with its lins upward towards th sky. Th ball at th top almost lookd lik a havnly body in spac. Thr wr many indntations and small circls on th structur giving it that wathrd look. Aftr diting took plac in Lightroom 6 and Photoshop CS6, I saw somthing ls. I thought it was similar but not xactly lik th Emrald City in th Wizard of Oz. It had not th sam grn colors but somthing diffrnt, yt similar. This is whr th titl: City Caught in Tim originatd. I think my vision was shard by th judg as wll, as I won 1st plac with a scor of 100 points. I usd my crativ procss and my Canon 5D Mark II, with a 24-105mm lns to achiv th shot you s. Thy wr all built in th mid svntn hundrds and hav bn compltly rstord. Excpt for Mission Concpcion, thy all hav congrgations and rgular masss. Thy ar opn to th public at 9:00 am and clos at 5:00 pm. It is OK to photograph insid th churchs as long as you don't disturb a pnitnt or if som vnt is not going on. Maps and othr information ar availabl at http:// www.nps.gov/saan/indx.htm. Additionally, I rcommnd that you try to do som night photography along th Rivr Walk in th vning. Th sun will b stting at 6:20pm. - Mission Concpcion, c.1755, is locatd at 807 Mission Road. It is just off E. Mitchll Strt south of I-10. Th church facs wstward so th bst light will b in th aftrnoon, although thr ar som good shots along th south sid in th morning. - Mission San Jos, c. 1780, is th largst of th four and has rgular srvics off and on all wknd. It is famous for its "ros window" and for its Mariachi Masss (visitors ar wlcom to attnd th masss, but no photography). W hav obtaind spcial prmission to photograph th intrior as long as thr is not som vnt going on, and as long as w do not block th aisls. If somon asks, just mntion that you ar with th Dallas Camra Club. This church also facs wstward, but som of th bst viws ar from th south sid in th morning. Espada Road, just south off of Connally Loop. This is a vry prtty littl church with xtnsiv grounds around it. Th church facs southward and is bst photographd in th morning, but thr is prtty good light all day. W will mt for lunch on Saturday th 20th at Nicha's Rstaurant at 11:30 am.
