VEX Team 40999
About the team Mission Bell High School Bruins Robotics objective is to foster interest in robotics and STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) through competition, to curate a strong relationship with the surrounding Ottawa community, and to develop leadership skills and team dynamics. Team First, Robotics Second At Bell High School robotics we believe that building up a core team and sharing skills is crucial to building a winning robot. This year is our 2nd year in existence and we really want to take the next step up because we believe we have very talented and passionate people from all walks of life. Our team consists of 20+ members and we now have an all girls team. This year our team will be working on 2 major projects: Two Arduino initiatives, competing in local competitions such as the IEEE ORC competition (Ottawa Robotics Club) in hopes of improving our relationship with our imme- diate community; and our Vex Robotics project participating in competitions around Canada in hopes of making it into the Vex Worlds competition hosted in Louisville, Kentucky. During the beginning of the year we put emphasis on team building skills to foster relevant skills needed for robotics and to get the team to know each other in a professional setting. Senior members are spending more time with the new members in hopes of transferring their knowledge to our future leaders. bruinsrobotics.ca 2018-2019 SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE 1 of 6
Meeting Our Goals We meet our objectives by partaking in various international and local competitions and by developing an extensive outreach program, thereby developing engineering talent both in our immediate community, and abroad Our Platforms: Challenge Description Notes ORC IEEE Arduino Competitions ORC IEEE Arduino Challenges involve: IBM LRT Detour (maze solving challenge) and the Green Arm challenge (a robotic arm challenge). Every year a challenge like this is run by the ORC, and it s always fun to meet local teams, and a great place to develop programming and teamwork skills. Vex Robotics Electronics and Robotic Systems - Non Competitive Vex Robotics is a global platform of robotics designed for students anywhere from middle school to university. This involves side projects utilizing robotics and/or electronics. Project Examples: Arduino plant waterer, automatic blind opener. Vex is a international platform, we start out in local tournaments and we move our way up, with the goal of making worlds! Since our two main competitions require huge commitments, these periodic projects helps satisfy the team while developing skills. Outreach Bruins Robotics is commited to promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the Ottawa Community. We try to visit local schools and teach children about some of the basic concepts that engineers work with every day. This encourages them to learn more about science and engineering and is also a lot of fun! This year our school expanded to host grade 7 and 8s and we will continue to be committed to providing them with knowledge and interest in robotics. Aside from that, we have partaken in various events this year to promote our club and STEM. bruinsrobotics.ca 2018-2019 SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE 2 of 6
2017/2018 Milestones Goals/Milestones Successful Creation of Club Bell High School Robotics was officialy started by passionate grade 9 s in early 2017 with the help of the school and the first few members. Successfully created a 7/8 robotics team As part of our outreach program and mission to engage more youth in robotics, we helped start a robotics club for the grade 7/8 s at our school. Vex Finalists We achived second place after months of hard work and innovation. Hosted our own Vex tournament In addition with being finalists, we took the initiative to host our own Vex tournament at Bell High School as a way of giving back. Created an all girls Arduino team We are strong believers in the girls in STEM movement, as a result this year we created an all girls Arduino robotics team. All girls Vex Team Since we have many girls interested, we would like to create an all girls team to foster their development within the STEM field. Provincial Finalists Our main goal is to make it to VEX worlds, and this is the next step we need to take in order to become one step closer. ORC IEEE Arduino Champions As we have many talented programmers, we belive this is a attainable goal and an exellent platform for skill and team development. Develop a Strong Outreach Program Our mission is to foster interest in robotics and other STEM fields through community engagement and Outreach. bruinsrobotics.ca 2018-2019 SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE 3 of 6 Future Goals
Become a Sponsor Reach out to Students By sponsoring Bell High School Robotics, you will be directly helping a group of ambitious and dedicated students pursue their passion in engineering and technology. Promotion for your company will be featured prominently on our website and all other marketing materials dependent on sponsorhip level. As we wear your name with pride, your company will be in the spotlight across the Bell High School and Ottawa Robotics community and potentialy in front of a provincial and/or international audience with Vex Robotics Stimulate Development Bell High School Robotics team members are developing soft skills that are not taught in the classroom, such as leadership, multidisciplinary teamwork, real-world problem solving, group logistics, and time management. Additionally, technical skills are being learned and practiced all year long that make our team members stand out among their peers. By supporting us you re giving strong young minds access to more resources to enhance their learning and skillset. Where the Funds Go As our robotics club has expanded to regional and potentially international competitions we anticipate an increase in the cost of transportation and accomodation as well as the ongoing expense of robotic components. bruinsrobotics.ca 2018-2019 SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE 4 of 6
