HEADSPACE MOUNT GAMBIER MONTHLY NEWSLETTER - JUNE 2018 Our very own YRG member, Ally Finnis co-hosts headspace Forum 2018 I'm Ally Finnis, one of headspace Mount Gambier's Youth Reference Group members, and I was lucky enough to attend the Forum as a headspace Youth National Reference Group (hy NRG) member, and as one of five co-mcs for the event. MCs and the Forum crowd! From back left: Ally, Sharene from Family and Friends, Pheobe, Liam and Sina from hy NRG. WE RE GOING PAPERLESS! We are making a conscious effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our practices and stay environmentally friendly. Please join us on our journey to reduce paper usage by giving admin your email address to receive electronic copies of letters and newsletters in the future! Every two years, people from the headspace network come together to share ideas and knowledge, form connections, and generate innovations. It's the largest gathering of mental health professionals in Australia: it's the headspace Forum. This year, on March 20 and 21, over 850 clinicians, young people, admin staff, special guests, and more descended on the Melbourne Convention Centre for two days jam-packed with fresh insights and buzzing energy. Special guests this year included headspace CEO Jason Trethowan, the Minister for Health, the Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, pioneering researchers, and several others. I learnt an incredible amount and had a great time meeting headspace people from all over the country. As part of my MC role, I had the opportunity to share some of my lived experience with mental illhealth. I was also privileged to hear the stories of my fellow MCs. Speaking in front of so many people wasn't easy, but definitely an amazing feeling! The entire event is something I'll remember with gratitude for years to come. - Ally Finnis On behalf of everybody at headspace, well done Ally! If you want to experience some of the Forum for yourself, check out this highlights reel: headspace National Forum 2018 headspace Mount Gambier gratefully acknowledges the financial and other support from Country SA PHN and the Australian Government Department of Health.
