Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild July/August 2012 Edgar Payne Day Trip EDGAR PAYNE: THE SCENIC JOURNEY WEDNESDAY- AUGUST 1, 2012 SHOW AT THE PASADENA MUSEUM Day Trip Bus Trip: August 1 Leaves La Costa Park and Ride at 9AM - Returns at approximately 6PM This is the first major showing of Edgar Payne (1883-1947) in over forty years. One of the most gifted of the historic California plein air artists, Payne utilized the brushwork and color of impressionist, but his powerful landscape paintings departed from the genteel refinement depicted by most impressionist painters. This exhibition will trace his artistic development as he travelled the world, finding magnificence in diverse settings, including the southern and central California, the Sierra, the Swiss Alps, and the desert Southwest. It is open to Family and Friends and Non Members of the Art Guild. Bus leaves La Costa Park and Ride at 9:15 AM. It is an approximately 2-1/2 hour ride to Pasadena. We will have a 45 minute docent tour and extra time to revisit the exhibit. Lunch is on your own. There are several restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Plan to board the bus at 3:30 for the return trip home. (Facilities on board) We must have 40 people. Your paid reservation is required by July 10th. Please make checks out to Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild and mail to Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild -Edgar Payne Show - P.O. Box 773 Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067. Please provide youraddress and email for updates. COST IS $49.00 (Contact casaallen@sbcglobal.net for questions Reference Edgar Payne

Suzy Schaefer Workshop September 13 th and 14 th 9 3p.m. in her studio Suzy says, I will be teaching on September 13th and 14 th from 9 until 3 in my studio at my home. There will be room for 12 students who have an interest in painting from photo reference. I ll lecture in the morning where I will explain what to look for in a photo reference. We ll examine the photos that have been brought in by the students as potential paintings for them. We ll examine the photo s exposure, balance of light, clarity and identify all the possible problems. There will be an hour break for lunch and we return to the studio after lunch with each students painting from a photo of their choice in the afternoon. As we progress that first morning, we will have identified the possible problems with the photos and we ll know how to solve them. The next morning I will talk again where I plan to share all the tips and tricks I ve learned over the years. I ll share tools that have been useful to me and some that I think are a waste of money. I hope there will also be handy hints shared by each student that can add to our painting experience. Contact: suzyschaefer@att.net. Or call with questions 858 756 2076 6
