Half and full day options available. 10 14 A NATURE STUDY WITH BEATRIX POTTER Melissa Donner In this camp take inspiration from the famous children s literature author and scientist Beatrix Potter to encourage students to explore and make observations about the world around them. We take a look at nature through Beatrix Potter s eyes by making scientific illustrations, and adding a twist of imagination to real life observations! Your child will learn about illustrations, story writing, plant identification, and will be recording all of these in their hand made nature journals! 17 21 & 24 28 MINI MAKER CAMP Sonia Schilling Is your child a natural inventor? Let your child s creativity flow in this Mini Maker Camp! We will build new skills and practice the engineering design process to make new creations. Students will allow their dreams to become reality by designing and building their own unique inventions. 8 12 Morning Session: YOUNG NATURALIST CAMP FEATURING BUGS R US! In this camp, we will experiment with chemicals that can all be found in your own kitchen! 15 19 MOTHER NATURE SCIENCE We will look at the weather in each season, doing hands-on activities and having discussions to better understand Mother Nature. Each day will offer time in the museum and time outside, depending on the weather and the day s lesson. 22 26 TASTY CHEMISTRY Science you can eat? Yes, please! Slime that oozes, sticky sour finger paints, and many other delicious concoctions. Campers will start with the different states of matter, an essential part of chemistry, and build upon their discoveries while taking data of our creations, measuring, and making chemical reactions not to mention looking forward to eating everything! They ll document the growth of a seed, why heat is a key ingredient, and use their senses in creative ways. This camp is all about the why and how (but don t forget the yum!) Note: This camp features wheat products, sugar, food colorings, and possible other allergens. Safety is of the highest importance; please use discretion when considering this camp for your child. 29 2 THE SCIENCE OF MOVIES Can you understand some of your favorite fantasy movies through science? In this camp we will explore various science topics through song and music! 19 23 MUSICAL ADVENTURES Landon Strine Would you like to visit an instrument zoo? How about make your own instruments? In this camp we will be finding music everywhere, from a yogurt tub drum circle to making music with natural objects! Music is everywhere!
3-5 EXPLORERScamps Week-long full day explorations for campers entering that take place from 9 AM 3 PM. 10 14 THE SCIENCE OF THE MOVIES Can you understand some of your favorite fantasy movies through science? In this camp, we take a look at some of our favorite fantasy movies, such as Star Wars, Toy Story, Big Hero 6, Wreck It Ralph, Harry Potter and more, and see if we can recreate them using science and engineering. 17 21 THE WORLD OF WIZARDING Students can spend time developing their skills in magic and science in this camp! Attending this alternative school of wizarding will allow students to practice their skills in magic and science to make potions, charms, and more! 24 28 DIGITAL DESIGNERS Design in the digital age! Campers will direct, edit, and produce their own podcast, either conducting an interview or presenting an audio story-theater. They will also create their own story through paper stop-motion animation and apply the same skills in coding with Scratch in addition to other projects. Campers will blend their creations and together design a camp website highlighting their group, as well as their own journey through this digital week! Note: Campers are encouraged to bring earphones/buds with a microphone. Campers will also be allowed to use their own devices with signed consent of a parent to bring them to camp and follow rules and expectations set by ScienceWorks and the camp instructor. 8 12 CSI: SCIENCEWORKS Kylie Bridge Here is your chance to become a Crime Scene Investigator! Learn how to collect fingerprints and trace evidence, analyze blood spatter, and identify reliable witness testimonies as you analyze simulated crime scenes! 15 19 THE SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON STEM CHALLENGE Finn Smith We will explore the story of The Swiss Family Robinson together, and use your imagination and science skills to engineer solutions to being stranded on an island. Together we will transform our classroom into a Swiss Family Treehouse! We will weave in language arts and science standards throughout the camp! 22 26 CRAZY CHEMISTRY Campers will learn about chemistry during this week of chemistry-based explorations. Campers will discover the formula to launch a rocket, combine substances to grow crystals, be detectives and identify mystery solutions, and explore acids and bases, during this exciting week of fizzing, foaming, and colorful fun! 29 2 CAMP GOMPHI Bashira Muhammad Camp Gomphi is a summer day camp operated by Zoom Out Mycology. Our objective is to shape the next generation of sustainability leaders with an emphasis on soil and mushroom conservation while showing how fun a career in environmental sciences can be! We incorporate art and whole systems thinking daily as well as nextgeneration science standards. 5 9 POWERED BY SCIENCE This camp will be devoted to a variety of activities that include motion and the use of energy to create movement. During the week, campers will design and build projects including hovercrafts, balloon-powered rockets, gravity and air powered vehicles, stomp rockets, gliders, catapults, aluminum foil boats, and water rockets. This camp will focus heavily on using recycled materials. 12 16 DR. FRANKENSTEIN S LAB What makes something alive? What responsibilities does a creator have for their creation? In this camp, we will explore anatomy, electricity, and what it means to be alive. We will combine scientific illustration, dissections, and electricity to learn the classic story of Frankenstein. 19 23 LEONARDO S WORKSHOP How do birds and dragonflies fly? What does color have to do with chemistry? What does math have to do with art? Where did Leonardo da Vinci get his ideas? In this camp, students will learn scientific illustration techniques, experiment with color and light, and see what happens when they view the art world through a scientist s eyes.
6-8 CHALLENGERSacademies Full day, in-depth experiences for campers entering Middle School, from 9 AM 3 PM. 10 14 THE SOUNDS OF SPACE Dan Ruby & Finn Smith Space is a vacuum through which no sound waves can travel. So how do scientists communicate with astronauts and probes? How do we collect data about sounds on other planets? Come explore the sounds of space with us as we play with magnetism, explore radio waves, and build our own radio telescope to monitor the stars! 17 21 & 24 28 ECOWORKS JJ Janson Spend a week with local environmental enthusiasts exploring the ecology and biodiversity of the different ecosystems in Oregon. Through hands-on learning, you will unearth the connections that organisms share with their environment, examine the physical structures of plants and behavioral strategies of animals, and discover the natural events and processes that have shaped habitats into what they are today. You will investigate ecosystem dynamics through interactive games, conduct field research using Bio Blitz, capture the beauty of nature through journaling and photography, design sustainable solutions to environmental problems through artwork and applied sciences, and most importantly, build connections with other aspiring naturalists like yourself. 24 28 SPECIAL OFFSITE PILOT PROGRAM: ZOMBIE PREPPER CAMP! Location: McLoughlin Middle School Can you survive the zombie apocalypse? Do you have the skills to survive when society falls? Learn how actual scientists track dangerous real-life creatures and diseases. Monitor epidemics, and create systems in order to survive. You will apply this knowledge to survive a zombie apocalypse simulation!
