Homework Week #16 Due January 24, 2019 Grade 2 TLC Reading: The homework program includes 15 20 minutes of daily reading. Please complete at least 2 3 sessions of Raz-Kids a week, which should include reading, listening and doing the quizzes. Spelling: There are 12 words to practice this week. All students please do the following: 1. Date the homework. 2. Moving forward, students are asked to practice their spelling words in a way that helps them learn. Below is a choice board of activities. Choose a new choice each day. Please make sure that one of those days is a written form that is done in the homework book. Please see the following spelling menu below. 3. Yellow: Focus on the first 4 words. 4. Blue: Focus on the first 8 words. 5. Red: Do all 10 words

Math All three coloured levels of homework are being asked to continue to use Mathletics (www.mathletics.com/signin) at home. Each student has their sign in card from their teacher with their username (remember to make sure the letters are UPPERCASE) and also passwords written on them. We ask that this week the yellow group spend 12 minutes / 2 to 3 times a week on Mathletics, the blue group 15 minutes / 2 to 3 times a week, and red group 20 minutes / 2 to 3 times a week. ROLL TO 100 (or RACE TO 100) 3 Different Ways to Play (yellow #1, blue #2, red #3): If your child becomes familiar with one version of the game, please encourage your child to challenge himself/herself by trying a different version. 1.The hundreds chart is used like a game board and the dice are used to move spaces on the chart. So if player one rolls an eight (i.e. a five and a three), they get to move eight spaces on the hundred chart. Whichever number they land on, they color or X the number (this is great for counting on skills). As the player is coloring the number, they have to say the number aloud correctly. If they say the number correctly, they move on and it's the next player's turn. If they say the number incorrectly, they lose their next turn, giving their opponent two turns in a row. The first player to get to 100 wins!

2. Another way to play is using Roll to 100 to practice odd and even numbers. For this version, a recording sheet is needed. Students take turns rolling the dice, moving that number of spaces on the board (i.e. a roll of a six and a six would mean they move 12 spaces), and coloring in or boxing the number on which they land. They then record that number on the recording sheet and write down if it is odd or even. The other player checks their answer, and if it's correct, they continue on. If it is incorrect, that player forfeits their next turn. They play until one partner gets to 100 and wins. 3. Last, but definitely not least, is using Roll to 100 to reinforce place value skills. For this version, students get a recording sheet and take turns rolling and coloring (or dotting) numbers like above. However, when they record the number on which they land, they have to represent that number in some other form. It can be by writing out tens/ones, writing the number in word form, writing it in expanded form, drawing base ten blocks, using ten frames, etc... Players check each other's work on each turn. The first player to 100 wins!
