January 2014 Take me to the Premier members area

Welcome to January 2014 Digital Scrapper Premier! Welcome to a brand new year of Premier! During the month of January you ll begin to see some changes that I hope you ll enjoy. We re starting the month as usual with all your Premier goodies for January available for download on one page. About a week later, though, we will have a bonus video and a challenge for you. I won t spoil the surprise by telling you what it s about, but the Creative Team had loads of fun making the most adorable pages with the brush set that comes with the video! In fact, during the month of January, you re going to receive not one, not two, but THREE additional videos. They ll be released one per week with the new style of manual, which I m sure you ll love! The last week of January we ll provide an all-in-one download link for the extra videos, but here s the exciting part these bonus videos, and all the January Premier products, are part of a classroom where you ll have forever access and the ability to watch the videos online or on your mobile devices. That means you won t have to worry about losing them or forgetting to download. And you can watch the videos no matter where you are. In February, you ll get your Premier kit and templates at the beginning of the month, but we ll continue rolling out the videos one per week. It s up to you whether you want to download once a month (at the end of the month) or join in with the fun of weekly videos with more instructor participation and occasional challenges. Here s to a fabulous year of Premier in 2014! January Tutorials Most of us have attempted to photograph a plate of food at one time or other, even if we didn t cook it. Barb Brookbank gives you the perfect photography recipe for just such an occasion. Christina Rambo weaves her technical knowledge and skill into a fabulous and completely realistic feather accent. Jen White will show you how to create snowflakes magically using a 6-point snowflake design, coupled with a great action for speeding things up. And I will demonstrate a quick and easy 6 x 4-inch recipe card template, so you can easily share your favorite recipes with friends and family. So tuck in and enjoy this month s wonderful goodies. Cheers Susie

Top Picks Christmas Wishes December 2013 Christmas always seems to inspire our members to scale new heights in their scrapbooking. This month s Top Pick, Christmas Wreath by cheerio64, was a real standout! The depth cheerio64 achieved with her beautiful shadows resulted in a drop-dead gorgeous page that jumped out at us in the gallery. We just couldn t take our eyes off it. Congratulations cheerio64. Choosing the other pages to feature here was extremely difficult because there were so many lovely examples from the video tutorials and Kristin s beautiful kit. Thank you all for giving us so much eye-candy. Shabby Miss Jenn s Sweet Comforts kit is perfect for creating scrapbook pages of your sweet food memories. My favorite element in the whole kit is the candy cane striped alpha because it reminds me of my childhood outings to the fair. Extra Tidbit Project 12 Journaling Overlay by Susie Roberts No matter what kind of template you use for Project 12, you ll need this handy journaling overlay. Just change the week number and words to suit. This one fits the Daily Life Template 12 x 12 but can be adjusted for any size photo mask. Having the same journaling overlay for every week will tie your entire Project 12 album together and keep it consistent. Open the photo mask (File > Open) that you intend to use as the background for your overlay. My mask is a rounded rectangle with a Radius of 25 px, a Width of 5.63 inches, and a Height of 3.67 inches. See Image 1 PS only: In the Layers panel, click on the Create a New Layer icon to create a new layer above the photo mask. Get the Rounded Rectangle tool. In the Tool Options, click on the Create New Shape Layer icon. (PS: Set the Tool Mode to Pixels.) Set the Radius to 25 px. Open the Geometry Options and choose Unconstrained. On the document, click and drag out a shape where you want your stroke outline to be. Mine is about 1/8 inch smaller than the original shape. See Image 2 EL only: In the Tool Options, click Simplify. In the Layers panel, click on the Create a New Layer icon to create a new layer above the new rectangle shape. Ctrl click (Mac: Cmd Click) on the thumbnail of the new rectangle shape to get a selection outline. Drag the new rectangle shape layer to the Trash. In the Menu Bar, choose Edit > Stroke (Outline) Selection. (PS: Choose Edit > Stroke.) In the dialog box, set the Width to 5 px. Open the Color Picker, choose white, and click OK. Set the Location to Inside and click OK. Press Ctrl D (Mac: Cmd D) to deselect. PS only: In the Layers panel, click on the Create a New Layer icon to create a new layer above the stroke outline. Get the Line tool. In Tool Options, click on the Create New Shape Layer icon and set the Width to 5 px. (PS: Set the Tool Mode to Pixels and the Weight to 5 px.) On the document, press and hold the Shift key and click and drag a line across the stroke outline, about 1/2 inch down from the top. Make sure the line meets the stroke outline at both edges. EL only: In the Tool Options, click Simplify. See Image 3 In the Layers panel, reduce the Opacity of the both the stroke and line layers to 80%. Get the Type tool. In the Tool Options, choose a Font and Size of your liking. On the document, click once on the bottom part of the mask and type the word Week and the number of the week you are documenting. I used the font Batang. The word Week is 73.44 pt, and the number 46 is 173.57 pt. In the Layers panel, reduce the Opacity for the type layers to 50%. On the document, click once and type a word, such as Where, on the top line. I used a Size of 30 pt. In the Layers panels, reduce the Opacity of this type layer to 80%. Click on the top layer and Shift click on the bottom overlay layer to select them all and then click on the Link Layers icon to link all the overlay layers together. See Image 4 Save the file as a layered document and drag it onto every new page you make, changing the week number to suit. Once you have a paper clipped to the photo mask layer, you can adjust the Color and Opacity of the overlay layers to suit. See Image 5 Add your journaling in a contrasting color. The Font I used is Pea Annalee, in all caps. See Image 6
