Mudsock Messenger Meetings: 2 nd Monday of each month Fishers United Methodist Church [Website] mudsockquiltersguild.org -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the President s Pen At our August meeting I mentioned that I had a very pregnant daughter, and she was scheduled to be induced a few days after our meeting, so I figured the baby would come while Grandma was busy at her Guild meeting (I was the designated babysitter for the 20 month old sister). Within moments of me mentioning this to the group, my daughter called it ended up not being THE call she just wanted to shop at Mom s yarn and fabric store (a.k.a. my craft room), but it certainly made for an exciting moment. Well, I am glad to announce that my newest grandson, Holden James Young, very considerately waited until his induction appointment on August 13th. My daughter was induced at 7 am, and Holden made his arrival at 3:05 pm, after only 5 minutes of pushing. He weighed 8 ½ pounds, and was 21 ¾ inches long. He looks exactly like his sister, and sleeps most of the time. This is my 12th grand baby, and I am in heaven!! We have reached the time of the year when we have to start fervently planning for our next year. The board is meeting at the Fishers Library at 1pm, Thursday, September 10th. All are encouraged to attend! We will be seeking new board and committee members for 2016, so please be considering how you can use your unique skills to keep your Guild moving forward, and growing. A lot of hands will make any job SEPTEMBER 2015 Volume 5. Issue 9 We also meet at the Fishers Public Library after most Guild Meetings for a Sew and Chat session. Go out to lunch at a local restaurant or bring a sack lunch to the library. SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAYS Happy B-Day to: 01 Georgie Flynn 09 Lynn Hupp 11 Donna Reimer 20 Becky Moore 23 Marion Newell 24 Bev Petu 24 Carol Rankin 29 Wanda Feder Page 1 of 7

easier, and I personally have found that my involvement in the background has made my membership in the Mudsock Quilters Guild much more rewarding. We will have our September meeting at the Community Health Pavilion, 146th and Cumberland Road, (please see Diane s post in this newsletter for details), and will be learning a quick stack and slash method from Diane Peterson and Kathy Jensen. Please be sure to look at the details of fabric requirements that Diane provides later in the newsletter. Please bring your machines and sewing supplies. There will be people available to help you transport your machines from your vehicle to the room if you need it. I am just amazed how quickly the year is passing, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far as president of this guild. I am proud to be associated with such generous women, who have given of their time and talents - through items donated for charities, through skills shared with the group, and especially all the women who have worked so tirelessly to make our gatherings such an enjoyable experience for all of us! From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all! Joanne Charity Donation Opportunities There are several needs and opportunities for us as a Guild to make donations. Baby Quilts Riley Hospital. Requirements for the quilts/blankets: Size: Suggested 45 x 60 or 72 x 80 (These are large but smaller ones are also acceptable and appreciated). NO TACKING! There is to be no hand sewing whatsoever as this can get caught on IV tubing and other equipment. 100% cotton batting and 100% cotton fabrics are required. Minky, fleece and flannel are acceptable and encouraged. The kiddos love the soft feel and warmth of these fabrics. Pillowcases Riley Hospital Pediatric Urology Unit and Nora Elementary School. Patterns for the pillowcases can be found at www.allpeoplequilt.com. A simple pattern is The Hot Dog pillowcase. Instructions can be found on You Tube or just Google: Hot Dog Pillowcase and you will find numerous tutorials. Other items to donate without making a quilt or sewing a pillowcase: Knitted/crocheted blankets, yarn must be new. Shout Color Catchers. The quilts are washed in fragrance-free detergent before they are donated. Many boxes are used in this process. Cotton batting batting can be pricey, so any batting donations would be greatly appreciated. Must be 100% cotton. Continued support: Encouragement, prayers and good wishes sustain us all. Bring your completed donations to any of our meetings. Page 2 of 7

September 14th Mudsock Program September meeting "Stack and Slash" will be led by Diane Peterson and Kathy Jensen. We will meet again at the Fishers Library. You will need the following: 6 different fabrics (2 fat quarters of each fabric or 1/2 yard of each fabric). Batik fabrics are a good choice. These will be cut into 14" squares. You will also need a contrasting fabric for sashing (1 yard). This method makes 12 squares. Borders can be added later. Plan to bring your cutting materials, sewing machine, extension cord, and iron (perhaps share with a partner). You should be able to complete the first 6 blocks in the morning and if you plan to stay for the afternoon, you may be able to complete the quilt top in the afternoon. Happy shopping or use up some of your stash. Any questions contact Diane Peterson (317) 550-9080. Change in Mudsock's meeting location for September 14th Meeting I made a mistake with the Library, we were booked for the smaller room not the larger room. Therefore, we will be meeting at a new location for this meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The meeting room is in the Community Health Pavilion in Noblesville, 9669 E. 146th Street (corner of 146th and Cumberland) 1st floor has separate entrance says meeting room or you can use main entrances. We have been considering this room for our large sewing meetings for 2016 as the Library is not always available. There is plenty of desk/table area for sewing with electricity so there is very little set up and clean up for us. Please bring your lunch or if you need to go out, there are restaurants at 146th and Rte 37. Please park in the white striped parking spaces, do not park in patient designated areas.
