From the Editor: I hope you had a nice holiday season and accomplished lots of stitching. We ALL had a white Christmas this year! Of course where I live, we only have brown Christmas about once every hundred years! Congratulations to Emily of the Starfish Youth Stitchers who was the recipient of the Eleanor Thomas Youth Bursary. Emily is going to take one of the adult correspondence courses - the Embellished Crazy Patchwork purse. We can all look forward to seeing pictures of her completed project in a future issue of YEN. In with this newsletter is a Youth Embroiderers Questionnaire for you to complete and an addressed envelope to mail it back to me. I look forward to your input about what interests you. Yay - I completed my piece for the Design A Book Cover Contest that Embroiderers Association of Canada is holding. Are you submitting a piece? See page 10 for information and entry form. Only send the book cover itself without the whole book. All the pieces will be on display the week of Seminar in Kingston, ON. Speaking of Seminar displays, there is always a table reserved for Youth exhibits. The adults LOVE to see what you have accomplished. On pages 14 and 15 is a form to complete, with details of the different categories, how and where to send your pieces. And of course, there s always a prize for each participant that will be donated by our sponsor, DMC Corporation. For this issue of YEN, we have a wonderful surface stitchery dragon designed by Judy Juroy. She designed this dragon for the Youth Program of the Embroiderers Guild of America. Check out their website at www.egausa.org. You may want to refer to your 100 Embroidery Stitches book or try the Stitch Animations on the Victoria Sampler website to help with the stitches used in the dragon. The webpage is www.victoriasampler.com and click on Stitch Animations on the left hand side of the screen. Other fantastic patterns included in this issue are Father Winter ornament by Teresa Wentzler, Snow by Whispered by the Wind and Remember Me by Lizzie Kate. Try the logic puzzle on page 12, made up by Joyce Gill (one of EAC s Board members)! Thank you to everyone that contributed to this issue! Carol Storie, Youth Embroiderers News -3-
