CIECA News Letter Monthly Event Summary The 2017 Taiwan Investment and Trade Mission to Swaziland, Mozambique, and South Africa An investment and trade mission from Taiwan, co-organized by the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA), the Taiwan Glass Industry Association, the Taiwan Africa Business Association (TABA), and the Africa Taiwan Economic Forum (ATEF), visited Swaziland, Mozambique, and South Africa from 18 to 28 June, 2017. The mission aims to strengthen bilateral interaction and industrial cooperation between African countries and Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China. The chief delegate is Mr. Jeff Sun, vice chairman of CIECA, together with Honorary Chief Delegate Mr. Por-fong Lin, chairman of CNAIC, led a Taiwanese delegation of 30 persons. The 30-member strong mission is composed mainly of leaders in the Taiwanese glass industry looking to invest in Swaziland, Mozambique, and South Africa. The glass manufacturers are interested in what the No. 59 / June 2017 three countries can offer in terms of investment incentives, policy support, and business climate. CIECA and the Black Business Council of South Africa have signed a memorandum of understanding in Pretoria during the 2nd Taiwan South Africa Joint Business Forum on June 23, 2017. Seminars on trade and investment opportunities in Swaziland and Mozambique have been held on June 20 and June 22 respectively in Mbabane and Maputo, where members of the mission consulted with local enterprises and government agencies, and TABA and the Federation of Swaziland Employers and Chamber of Commerce (FSE&CC) are expected to also formalize their future cooperation. Taiwan has pledged to become a non-nuclear country by 2025. 3 In order to achieve this goal, the Chinese

International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA) and the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) organized collaboratively the 2017 Taiwan Offshore Wind Industry Delegation Visit to the UK & Netherlands from June 5th 15th 2017. The delegation focused on offshore wind power subjects, such as wind turbine, underwater foundation, marine engineering, operation & maintenance, grid, green finance for discussion to learn valuable experience and expertise from the U.K. and the Netherlands to build local supply chains and enhance industrial development in Taiwan. The 26th Joint Economic Cooperation Meeting between CIECA and FTI In concert with the government s promotion of its New South bound Policy, CIECA has invited the Computer Association, an organization responsible for planning the promotion of cooperation with the Thai information service industry and a friend to CIECA, to jointly form a delegation to Thailand. Dr. Wenent Pan, Chairman of CIECA s Thailand Committee (Chairman of the CTCT Foundation, Gintech Energy Corp.) led the 50-person delegation to visit Thailand from the 14th to the 17 th June. On the 16th, he jointly presided over the 26th Joint Economic Cooperation Meeting between CIECA and FTI with Mr. Chen Namchaisiri, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries at the

Radisson Blu Plaza Bangkok. To strengthen substantive cooperative relations between our two nations, the conference discussed Smart Manufacturing, Smart Transportation, ICT and e-commerce.
