From the remainder of the white solid fabric and fabric #6, use a rotary cutter and ruler to cut three width-offabric strips in a variety of widths from 1 1/2" to 3" from each fabric. Cut each strip on an angle so that one end is wider than the other. Cut each strip in half crosswise to make six strips from each fabric. 3. Alternately sew the white and fabric #1 strips together along the long edges, alternating the wide and narrow ends. Press the seams in one direction. 1 2 3 4 5 2 1 4. Randomly crosscut the 1 1/2" 15" fabric #1 strip into five to seven segments. Insert fabric #7 squares between the pieces and sew the strip back together. Press the seams toward the squares. Repeat to make a total of five pieced strips. 2. Referring to Step 1, cut six width-of-fabric strips from each of fabrics #1 #5. Cut each strip in half crosswise to make 12 strips from each fabric. Assemble the Bed Runner Top 14. Refer to the bed runner assembly diagram to lay out the blocks in six horizontal rows of two matching A blocks and the matching B block, working from the lightest to the darkest blocks. Sew the blocks in each row together. Press the seams in opposite directions from row to row. Join the rows. Press the seams in one direction. Table runner assembly Finish the Bed Runner 15. Layer the backing, batting and bed runner top. Baste the layers together. 16. Quilt as desired. Vivian used 12-weight variegated green embroidery thread to quilt concentric circles across the bed runner. 17. Cut the remainder of the Step 7 pieced fabric units into 2 1/2"-wide strips. Lay out the strips around the bed runner edges, matching the strip colors to the blocks. Trim the strips as needed, making sure you leave enough for joining the strips and mitering the corners. The strips don t have to match the color changes exactly, but they should transition nicely from one color to the next. Join the strips end to end to make one long strip. Use the pieced strip to bind the bed runner edges. WWW.MQUMAG.COM
