Stitchin' News What s in store at Always In Stitches 1808 E. Conner St., Noblesville, IN www.alwaysinstitches1.com July 21, 2012 We re a little bit wine-y at Kokomo Shop Hop When we talk vintage: it s usually about patterns, quilts and fabrics. This week we re talkin wine. The One Stop Shop Hop July 27 and 28 at the Kokomo Event and Conference Center will have booths from more than 30 shops, as well as games, prizes and all kinds of fun. The booth theme assigned to Always In Stitches is Chantilly Vineyard, taken from one of the blocks in the Quiltopoly game. Some wonderful kits were made especially for this event, including a Vintage Christmas and a country living Chickadee panel. We ll have a full booth and some surprises waiting for you. (But of course, if you can t get to the Shop Hop, we ll still have a wide and varied selection of everything you need in the shop.) The One Stop Shop Hop is 9-6 July 27 and 9-5 July 28. The Kokomo Event and Conference Center is located on the Ivy Tech campus at 1500 N. Reed Road (U.S. 31). Admission is $5 daily. I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E 2 Graduation nears for University of AIS 3 Barn quilts and stories 4 Too fun to miss 2 little fat quarters, 4 terrific treat bags Ever browse the fat quarter display and wonder what you could make with just a few of the $2.99 bargains? Marsha Zeller sewed four of the cutest Halloween treat bags using just two fat quarters She plans to fill them with treats to surprise some lucky friends. This is a fun and inexpensive way to package a gift, notions, a book or just about any gift. Looking for an even less expensive way to stock up on fat quarters? Make a purchase on Fat Tuesday every week at Always In Stitches and get a free fat quarter. Add your name to our mailing list and get another. Let s paint! Gayle Jones is packing up her brushes and heading back to Always In Stitches next month to bring you three more days of watercolor classes. Start fall with a clean closet (or one full of project supplies) If you re like most of us who work at Always In Stitches, your sewing room shelves, drawers and cubbies are so packed with supplies, you wonder where there s room for something new. And for some of those supplies, you wonder if you ll ever use them Always In Stitches has the answer: Clean out your stashes of any kind of craft supplies, rent a booth space and sell them in the shop s Crafter s Market, 10-4 Aug. 18 (Aug. 25 if it rains.) The market will be set up behind the shop. Spaces are $10 each, and we will donate those fees to a charity. In addition to the money you will make at the sale, we ll give you a $10 gift certificate as a thank you for participating and cleaning up your spot before you leave. For those of us who can always use fabric, kits, patterns, scrapbook supplies, notions, thread and similar items, the sale will be a great day to find treasures and get ready for fall and winter crafting Call today to reserve your spot or mark your calendar to be here on Aug. 18. Don t miss an issue; put magazines on hold You don t have to miss an issue or any magazine we carry; we ll put it on hold for you when it arrives. Just give us your name and phone number. When we have it, we ll call you and hold it for five days so you can buy it when it s convenient to your schedule. One of the many reasons Gayle s classes are popular is because students -- even those who have no experience -- complete a beautiful watercolor by the end of the class. Each day offers a different subject: "Queen Anne's Lace" on Aug. 16, "Peaches" on Aug. 17, and "Woodland Scene, which is displayed in the front of the shop, on Aug. 18. Attend one, two or all three days. $45 per day, including all supplies. Sign up in the shop. Use Janome needles to save money, limit repairs We know you don t want to lose the use of your Janome sewing machine while it s being repaired, and wouldn t you rather spend money to buy fabric and notions instead of paying repair bills? One way to do both is by using only Janome needles. We ve fixed a number of Janome machines recently that were damaged when another manufacturer s needles were used. It s crunch time for University of AIS students Graduation plans are being made and the curriculum for next year s University of AIS class is being developed. But for this year s students, it s crunch time. The final class meets 10:30-11 Aug. 15, and that is the last day you can turn in projects to get stickers toward prizes. On that day, Knitting Know How will be the topic. Watch the newsletter, website, Facebook and email for details about next year s opportunity to master your skills and learn some new techniques..

Club members in for treat at Marti & Me meeting The praise couldn t have been stronger when Master Ruler Cindy Ogle unveiled this month s Marti & Me Club project. She used the pattern to make a small quilt, and everyone agreed with Cindy that It looks like you just went into your grandmother s trunk and pulled it out. When you see the quilt displayed in the shop, notice how the dotted fabric in it gives a stippled effect and accentuates the vintage feeling. This was so easy to quilt, Cindy said, because the Marti and Me tools make it flat. Marti and Me Club will meet from 1:30-2:30 July 28. BOUND TO PLEASE Every Barn Tells a Story There s lots of good reading and quilting in Every Barn Tells a Story. Quilter and sales specialist Linda Heavner recently read the book and tells us it is a collection of stories about barn owners, anecdotes, photos taken along the Barn Quilt Trail and quilting patterns. It s a really great book, said Linda, who found information about the barn quilt tours fascinating. Painting a quilt on a barn is not as simple as it might sound, she added, but it is becoming a popular art form and country home attractions. More than 3,000 barns in the United States and Canada have been painted, including some in Hamilton and surrounding counties. AIS customer Angie Swan paints quilts on wood that can be hung on barns. She has some samples in the shop, and her contact information for custom work is available here, too. Get staff expertise delivered to your inbox Don t wait until you re shopping to get questions about our products answered. Email them, instead. Sarah Swanson display launches monthly focus Sarah Swanson s lovely work inspires and delights as it hangs in the HandiQuilter Department throughout July. She is the first customer in our Fiber Artist of the Month program. Your work could be here, too. Ask a sales specialist how to participate.
