Open and press to reveal <fabric 1> corner triangle. Repeat with another 1-3/4 <fabric 1> square at the other corner of the same 1-3/4 x 3 rectangle to make (1) flying geese unit. 1a. Sew (2) flying geese units to the opposite sides of (1) 3 F square to make a row. 1b. Sew (2) 1-3/4 F squares to the opposite short sides of flying geese unit to make a row. Repeat to make (2) rows. 1c. Sew rows together to complete Block Center, measure 5-1/2 x 5-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. 2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 3 F square. Place square, right sides together, on (1) 3 x 5-1/2 <fabric 2> rectangle. Sew on drawn line. Trim 1/4 away from sewn line. Open and press to reveal F corner triangle. Repeat with another 3 F square at the other corner of the same 3 x 5-1/2 rectangle to make a flying geese unit. Flying geese unit should measure 3 x 5-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. Make a total of (4) flying geese units. 2a. Sew (2) flying geese unit to the opposite sides of block center to make a row. 2b. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 4-1/2 G square. Place square, right sides together, on (1) 4-1/2 x 8-1/2 rectangle. Sew on drawn line. Trim 1/4 away from sewn line. Open and press to reveal G corner triangle. Repeat with another 4-1/2 G square at the other corner of the same 4-1/2 x 8-1/2 rectangle to make (1) flying geese unit. Make a total of (4) flying geese units. 1a. Sew (2) flying geese units to the opposite sides of (1) 8-1/2 G square to make a row. = Fabric 1 = Fabric 2 5
1b. Sew (2) 4-1/2 squares to the opposite short sides of (1) flying geese unit to make a row. Make a total of (2) rows. 1c. Sew together all rows to complete Center Star Unit - measuring 16-1/2 x 16-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. 2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 4-1/2 B square. Place square, right sides together, on (1) 4-1/2 x 8-1/2 F rectangle. Sew on drawn line. Trim 1/4 away from sewn line. Open and press to reveal B corner triangle. Repeat with another 4-1/2 B square at the other corner of the same 4-1/2 x 8-1/2 rectangle to make (1) flying geese unit. Make a total of (4) flying geese units. 2a. dd to the bottom of the flying geese unit (1) B QST, and to the right and left (2) F HST [cut from 4-7/8 square], before adding to the right and left (2) J HST [cut from 8-7/8 square] to complete (1) middle unit, measure 8-1/2 x 16-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. Repeat to make (4) middle units. 3. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 5-1/2 G square. Place square, right sides together, on (1) 5-1/2 F square. Sew 1/4 away from, on right and left sides of drawn line. Cut along drawn line. Open and press to yield (2) HST units. lign diagonal seam of HST units against 45 degree line on quilting ruler. Trim HST units to measure 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. Make a total of (8) HST units. HST = Half Square Triangle QST = Quarter Square Triangle 6
3a. rrange and sew together (2) HST units, (1) 4-1/2 F square and (1) 4-1/2 C square into a 4-Patch to make a corner unit, measuring 8-1/2 x 8-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. Repeat to make (4) Corner Units. 4. Sew (2) middle units to the opposite sides of center star unit to make a row. 4a. Sew (2) corner units to the opposite sides of (1) middle unit to make a row. Repeat to make (2) rows. 4b. Sew rows together to complete quilt center. Quilt center should measure 32-1/2 x 32-1/2 raw edge to raw edge. QUILT TOP SSEMBLY 1. Inner border #1. Sew (2) 2-1/2 x 32-1/2 D strips to the opposite sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 2-1/2 x 36-1/2 D strips to the remaining opposite sides of quilt center. 2. Inner border #2. Sew (2) 1-1/2 x 36-1/2 K strips to the opposite sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 1-1/2 x 38-1/2 K strips to the remaining opposite sides of quilt center. 3. Inner border #3. Sew (2) 1-1/2 x 38-1/2 D strips to the opposite sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 1-1/2 x 40-1/2 D strips to the remaining opposite sides of quilt center. 4. Inner border #4. rrange and sew together (4) star blocks to make a column. Repeat to make (2) identical columns, and add to the right and left sides of quilt center. 4a. rrange and sew together (6) star blocks to make a row. 5. Inner border #5. Sew (2) 2-1/2 x 60-1/2 strips to the opposite sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 2-1/2 x 64-1/2 strips to the remaining opposite sides of quilt center. 6. Inner border #6. Sew (2) 2-1/2 x 64-1/2 F strips to the opposite sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 2-1/2 x 68-1/2 F strips to the remaining opposite sides of quilt center. 7. Outer border. Sew (2) 5 x 68-1/2 B strips to the opposite sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 5 x 77-1/2 B strips to the remaining opposite sides of quilt center to complete quilt top.
