Students will begin t understand hw art and creating art can take the ut f the rdinary fantasy and make it realistic and believable thrugh imagery. Students will gain knwledge f new art-making prcesses, artists, and examples f wrks that highlight art s ability t expand past the reality in life. Students will begin creating their final illustrative images based n their strybard plan and ideas. Students will be intrduced and practice a variety f new vcabulary wrds that pertain t creating stries thrugh artwrk and imagery. Students will bserve a demnstratin/lk at exemplars that will help frmulate ideas and build interest in their art making f the stry prject. 1

Measurable criteria: Students will be wrking n transferring their strybard images nt their final 5 x7 pieces f drawing paper. Students shuld cmplete all pencil drawings and begin t trace ver their lines with the permanent markers. Timeframe: Students will spend the first seven minutes f class ging ver the schedule f the day and reviewing the previus lessn. Students will have the pprtunity t share their strybards. Students will then bserve a quick demnstratin n creating their line drawings and utlining in marker. The fllwing 20 minutes students will devte t cmpleting their line drawings. The last 10 minutes will be fr clsure and clean up. Rund Table placed near the sink (fr supplies). 2 nd Grade: Desks are gruped in three larger grups f tables. Sink and rund table are lcated in the bttm left crner f the rm. Rund Table will be used fr demnstratin. Chalkbard will als be used fr demnstratin. 3

Clean-Up pints will be handed ut during this time. Prcedures: INTRODUCTION: (5 minutes) Get students attentin t start the classrm discussin. Intrduce students t the schedule and what will be happening tday. Recap previus discussin abut narratives in art. When students are explaining their stries have vcab wrds pinted ut. DEMONSTRATION: (10 minutes) Everyne will cme t the rund table. Review f Vcab Nw remind me, what did we include in ur strybard sketches? We have t have a Hrizn Line, Fregrund, Middle Grund, and Backgrund. Can smebdy shw me what thse lk like again? Nw tday, I m just ging t shw yu what we ll be ding tday fr ur demnstratin. Remember when we lked at thse cmics and stries that they all had a black line? Well that s hw we are ging t create urs like. Teacher Exemplar MAKING THE LINES: - G ver the different parts f the strybard. Explain hw they ll g in steps 1-4, and that there needs t be a main character perfrming the actins. 1) Beginning 2) Smething Happening 3) The End - Nw with ur strybards we made, we have an idea f what each image is ging t lk like. The next step is making it bigger nt the final pieces f paper. - T d this we are simplying just ging t draw lightly with ur pencils. - DON T FORGET TO KEEP OUR FOREGROUNDS, MIDDLE GROUND, BACKGROUNDS, AND HORIZON LINES! - I want a tn f detail!!! GOING OVER IN MARKER - Once we have all f ur pencils marks, we are ging t g ver each line with ur thin markers. - This will help define all f ur images, just like in a clring bk. - Each Images needs t have a 1) Hrizn Line, 2) A definite Fregrund, 3) A definite Backgrund, and 4) At least ne example f Overlapping Des anyne have any questins n what they are ging t be ding? Dn t frget t lk at yur strybard t help yu with yur bigger pictures! Nw first, put yur name n the back f each f yur (4) pieces f paper, then start with yur pencil and drawing yur pictures! DESIGN/WORK SESSION: (20-22 minutes) Students will be given this time t cmplete their pencil drawings n the final drawing paper. Once finished, students will be utlining with their marker. Requirements: Middle Grund, Fregrund, Backgrund, and Hrizn Line. Teacher will be walking arund t help aid with student questins. Students will be tld t write their names IN PENCIL n the cardbard sheets t put their sculptures n! Students will be reminded when they have 5 minutes left t wrk. * If students cmplete befre class ends, they will be prmpted t wrk in their sketchbks.
