Check out this Lanai Paint Out Special Edition newsletter! Letter from the President Jan Bushart Aloha Artists, In March we had a Paint Out in Lanai. This Special Edition newsletter will give you a glimpse into the wonderful times had, so if you were unable to make it (or were part of it), come and relive all the fun with us! I would like to extend a special thank you for everyone that attended the Lanai Paint Out in March. Although initially it looked like we were in for some bad weather, it turned out to be perfect! Between all of us we rented 4 places within walking distance of downtown. Most of us took the ferry over and 3 artists flew in from Oahu. We had two artists join us from California. Many of the artists had never been to Lanai and they were amazed by it. We set up all around town, made new friends and reconnected with old. In the evenings we got together and had dinners, critiques. and watched a movie about Van Gogh. By the end of the week, we were sad to say goodbye. It truly was a fantastic week and we are already planning our next paint out on Lanai. Aloha, Jan Bushart PAPOH President and Founder papohadmin@gmail.com On our way!
We kind of took over the top deck of the ferry
Photos by Cheryl McElfresh Cheryl painted a wide variety of subject matter. I painted this same house with her and I never saw that rooster. Good addition!
First truck ever on Lanai, haha
Photos by Carole Sarra Carole came all the way from Chico CA. This is one of the cottages we rented. We rented it because we wanted to paint it!
Flossie and Cheryl painting trumpet flowers. What a relief from painting cottages all week! Flossie is my wonderful Mom in case you have not figured that out Photos by Spencer Chang Spencer flew over from Oahu and in two days painted umpteen paintings. Here are a few. Spencer can draw buildings upside down and backwards
with his background in architecture.
Photos by Yvonne Manipon Yvonne is a long time PAPOH member from Oahu. She has come to many paintouts over the years. She gathered a huge crowd of children while she was painting the Blue Ginger Cafe (our lunch spot). She was quite the celebrity on Lanai!
Here is the end result!
Photos of or by Jack Hamilton Jack Hamilton from Maui was also a celebrity on Lanai.
Extreme painting. Two easels at once. Photo by Matt Jack's wonderfully diverse and prolific collection of Lanai work Photos by Anna Gail Campanelli
AnnaGail had a great spot right across the street from the espresso shop and here is her final result!!! Many artists joined her there. Pictured: Joli Beal and Cheryl McElFresh. I think Cheryl is either scoping out her next painting maybe a chai latte?
Photos by Matt Montagne Jack and Matt went down the hill to Manele Bay and came back with some beauties.
We ate there for dinner and the owner loved seeing what Matt had done with the place!
Joli Beal
Joli is a signature member from San Diego and has come to many paintouts. She chose a great vantage point to achieve this perspective! Yes it was photographed professionally on the shuttle
Flossie Smith
Flossie uses pen and ink and watercolor for her sketches when she travels. Fun in Lanai

Alberta dejetley's house. Turns out her cottage was right next door to the one we rented, Lanai is a small island. Work in progress.
Lanai is the friendliest island, really. This is daughter and granddaughter of the owner of the cottage I was painting. They brought me over to meet Mom and tour her garden. Back in the day, she used to supply plants all over the island from her garden and was known as the "Queen of the Jungle". Her yard was amazing. Our 2018 Lanai Paint Out Participants!
