Autumn Welcome By Marie Duncan Welcome friends to your house for all the autumn festivities with our inviting, appliquéd welcome sign. The appliqué is done using some decorative stitches, and the words are created in your PFAFF 5D embroidery software. Sewing Supplies: Clear ¼" Right Guide Foot with IDT system 820881096 Clear Stitch-In-Ditch Foot with IDT system 820882096 INSPIRA topstitch needle, size 90 620099096 INSPIRA Tear-A-Way stabilizer 620112196 INSPIRA Fusible Fleece 320003996 1¼ yards of tone on tone cotton for background and backing ⅜ yard of border fabric ⅛ yard of cornerstones Assorted cotton scraps for appliqué Cotton batting Assorted Sulky Blendable 30 wt. threads Robison-Anton 40 wt. rayon embroidery thread Sewing thread Bobbin thread Steam-A-Seam 2 sheets or yardage 1 yard ⅜ wide ribbon for hanging One 24 long dowel Cut: From tone on tone cotton: One 17 square One 23 square for backing One strip 2 long x 23 wide for casing From border fabric: Two rectangles 12 long x 22 wide From corner stone fabric: Four 3½ squares From INSPIRA Fusible Fleece: One 23 square 2013 KSIN Luxembourg ll, S.ar.I. Prepare: 1. Print the five appliqué patterns. 2. Trace the pieces, grouped by color, onto the paper side of the Steam-A-Seam 2 that does not remove easily. The pieces have been sorted by color for you already. 3. Cut apart the dark orange ones. 4. Place on dark orange fabric. 5. Press lightly without steam to adhere. 6. Cut out the shapes. 7. Repeat for the remaining pieces one color at a time. 8. Arrange the pieces on your 17 x 17 background fabric following the Autumn Wreath Placement Diagram. 9. Remove the paper backing and press with steam to adhere to the background fabric. Sew: 1. Set your PFAFF sewing and embroidery machine for free-motion. 2. Thread with 30 wt. Blendable thread on top and sewing thread in the bobbin. 3. Place a piece of cotton batting underneath the fused wreath. 4. Free-motion stitch around the autumn fruits and veggies. Create the Welcome: 1. Open 5D embroidery software. 2. Click on Hoops and select: 3. Click on the Letter tab. 4. Click on Quick Font Wizard. 5. Select Font: Bradly Hand ITC. Style: Bold. 7. Select Stitch Type: Satin. Output Size Range: 12mm 50mm. Joining Point: Baseline. 8. Click Next. 9. Under Set Font Name, leave as is and click Next. 10. Click Finish. 11. In 5D Embroidery, under Category, select MyFonts, Bradley Hand ITC_B_S_12_50. Size 46mm. 12. Type in WELCOME, in all caps. 13. Click Apply. 14. Click on the Design Tab. 15. Click Rotate 90. 16. Move the word to the right side of the hoop. 17. Click Duplicate. 18. Move the second WELCOME to the left side of the hoop. 19. Click Combine All. 20. Click ColorSort. 21. Save as Welcome.vp3. 22. Send to your PFAFF embroidery machine. 23. Hoop INSPIRA Tear-A-Way stabilizer. 24. Thread with Robison-Anton 40 wt. embroidery thread on top and bobbin thread in the bobbin. 25. Load the Welcome.vp3 design. 26. Toggle to Embroidery Stitch-out. 27. Activate Basting and baste one of the 12 x 22 border fabrics in place. 2013 KSIN Luxembourg ll, S.ar.I. 28. Embroider the design. 29. Repeat with the other 12 x 22 border fabric. 30. Trim, creating four border pieces 3½ x 17 with the lettering centered. 31. Snap on your Clear ¼" Right Guide Foot with IDT system. 32. Lay out your center wreath square, corner stones and embroidered border strips. 33. Stitch the 3½ cornerstones to each side of two of the border strips. 34. Stitch the two border strips without cornerstones to the wreath square. 35. Stitch the two strips with cornerstones to the other two sides. 36. Place the finished wreath top on the rough side of the fusible fleece. Press with steam to fuse. 37. Press under ½ on the two short ends and one long edge of the casing piece as shown. 38. Place the casing piece on the right side of the backing with the raw edge at the casing top, even with the raw edge of the backing, and pin. 39. Stitch along the long edges close to the edges as shown. 40. Place the backing and wreath front right sides together. 41. Stitch around the outside edges using a ¼ seam allowance, leaving a 6 opening to turn. 42. Clip the corners, turn and press. 43. Hand sew the opening closed. 44. Snap on your Clear Stitch-In-Ditch Foot with IDT system. 45. Stitch in the ditch of the seams. 46. Insert the dowel in the casings and tie on the ribbon for hanging.
