Dungarees A lightweight, spring-y cowl to guard against those chilly April breezes. Inspired, strangely, by a pair of jeans the stitch patterns mimic the crosshatching in the fabric and gathers along the seams. MATERIALS: Approximately 225 yards sport weight yarn, such as Madelinetosh Pashmina Needles: US size 5, 16 circular or DPNs 2 stitch markers Tapestry needle GAUGE: Approximately 6st/inch in seed stitch; gauge is not essential, but should be similar to ensure cowl is not too small to fit over your head

ABBREVIATIONS: K2tog knit 2 stitches together Kfb knit into the front and back of the same stitch M1R pick up the strand of yarn between stitches from back to front; knit into the front of the stitch pm place marker yo yarnover PATTERN: Hem: Using long tail cast-on or your preferred method, cast on 120 stitches Being careful not to twist, place marker and join in the round; work 4 rows of seed stitch as follows: Rounds 1 & 3: K1, P1 around Rounds 2 & 4: P1, K1 around Gathers: Increase round: *K1, kfb, kfb*; repeat to end (200 sts) Work 7 rounds in stockinette (knit every round) Decrease round: *K1, k2tog, k2tog*, repeat to end (120 sts)

Lateral braids (make 2): Step 1:1 M1R; pass this newly made stitch from right needle to left needle Step 2: 2 Knit into the back of the nd 2 stitch on the left-hand needle (originally the first stitch of the round), then into the front of the 1st stitch on the needle (the increased stitch), slipping both stitches off the left needle. You will now have 2 new stitches on the right needle. Move the leftmost stitch back to the left-hand needle. Repeat step 2 through the end of the round. Step 3: 3 When the round is complete, remove the marker, and slip the first stitch of the next round from the left to the right needle. Pass the last stitch of the completed round (now the 2nd stitch on your right needle) over it, and then move the stitch back to the left-hand needle. Replace marker. Repeat these 3 steps for 2nd braid.
