Chapter 1 : Watch Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Full Movie Online on theinnatdunvilla.com Two Jedi Knights escape a hostile blockade to find allies and come across a young boy who may bring balance to the Force, but the long dormant Sith resurface to claim their old glory. Together, they all escape the planet, where they land on Tatooine in order to repair the damage the ship took during their escape. In the final scene, she presents a token of peace to Boss Nass of the Gungans. Jar Jar Binks "Wesa make you When he sees Qui-Gon Jinn running towards him, Jar Jar grabs onto him for protection, nearly killing them both. Once there, the Gungans decide to help the Jedi, and the Gungan leader, Boss Nass, agrees to let Jar Jar go with them despite violating his banishment. After accompanying the Jedi when they rescue the queen, Jar Jar goes with them to Tatooine and, later, to Coruscant. Once Queen Amidala decides to return to Naboo and fight the Federation, Jar Jar helps Amidala bring peace between the Gungans and the Naboo, who have been at odds for many years. The Gungans agree to lead the frontal assault against the Federation army, and Nass makes Jar Jar a Gungan General as a reward for bringing peace to the Gungans and the Naboo. Jar Jar helps lead the Gungan army at the start of the battle against the Federation, but has difficulty functioning in his new role as a result of his clumsiness. Nonetheless, the Federation is defeated and Naboo is freed. C-3PO "I beg your pardon, but what do you mean, "naked? Although his original programming is for interaction between humans and cyborgs, Anakin assembled him from parts he found in order to help his mother around their house on Tatooine. He is there while Anakin races and watches his master win, after which point Anakin leaves Tatooine to become a Jedi. At the start of the film, he and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, are selected to be the Jedi ambassadors to the Trade Federation in the hopes of resolving the conflict peacefully. They are attacked by the Federation, however, forcing them to flee to Naboo, where they rescue Queen Amidala and take refuge on Tatooine to repair their ship. In order to help get the parts they need, Anakin enters a podrace where the stakes are the needed partsâ and Qui-Gon also arranges for Anakin to be freed as a slave. When Anakin wins, they retrieve the parts. Once on Coruscant, Qui-Gon tells the Council that he believes the assailant was a Sith Lord and that Anakin is the Chosen One, foretold in an ancient Jedi prophecy, who will bring balance to the Force. The Council tests Anakin and rejects him for training due to his age, but Qui-Gon says he will train him anyway. Qui-Gon is killed, but he lives along enough to ask Obi-Wan to promise he will train Anakin. Qui Gon carries a green lightsaber. Obi-Wan Kenobi "The Council has granted me permission to train you. You will be a Jedi, I promise. He travels with his master as an ambassador to the Trade Federation, and he senses that something more dangerous is looming behind the Naboo conflict. Together, they all flee the planetary occupation and take refuge on Tatooine. They decide to put the disagreement behind them once they arrive on Naboo, where they take on Darth Maul in the royal palace. Qui-Gon is killed, and an enraged Obi-Wan lashes out at and kills Maul in one-on-one combat. Obi-Wan Kenobi carries a light blue lightsaber. Darth Maul "At least we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At least we will have revenge. Once Queen Amidala and the Jedi escape Tatooine, Sidious sends Maul to track them, and he discovers that they have escaped to Tatooine. He informs Sidious of his findings and relishes the opportunity to exact revenge against the Jedi, after the Jedi Order nearly destroyed the Sith a thousand years earlier. Maul follows the queen and the Jedi to Tatooine, where he engages Qui-Gon Jinn in lightsaber combat before the Jedi escape. He manages to separate them, using the opportunity to mortally wound Qui-Gon. He fights an enraged Obi-Wan next, but the Padawan is able to cut Maul in half and send him tumbling down a massive reactor shaft. Although Maul was originally believed to be dead following his confrontation with Obi-Wan, he returns at the end of the fourth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars to seek vengeance against Obi-Wan for defeating him. He carries a red double-bladed saber staff. I will be Chancellor. Secretly, however, he is also Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith, and manipulates galactic events according to his design in order to seize power for himself. He claims that this is to ensure a stronger Republic, but in reality he wants to become the Supreme Chancellor himselfâ a position he is nominated for after the vote of no confidence. After his election, Palpatine returns to Naboo to praise Queen Amidala for her leadership, and he takes a particular interest in the young Anakin Skywalker for helping to defeat the Federation army. R2-D2 Page 1

"That little droid did it! As Queen Amidala and the Jedi attempt to escape the Federation blockade around Naboo, the shield generator is damaged and the droids are activated into service. All of the droids are destroyed except for R2-D2, who repairs the shield generator and allows the ship to escape. During the final battle, Anakin Skywalker tries to hide in a starfighter and accidentally activates its auto-pilot, sucking R2 into the droid cockpit. The ship automatically flies to the battle in space, where R2 helps Anakin destroy the Federation command ship. Anakin Skywalker "I had a dream I was a Jedi. I came back here and freed all the slaves. Anakin agrees to enter a podrace in which Qui-Gon bets Watto that Anakin will win in exchange for the ship parts that they need. The next day, Anakin wins the race, and Qui-Gon reveals that he is freed as a slave and can go with them to Coruscant to become a Jedi. Once there, the Jedi Council tests him to determine if he is the Chosen One and eligible for training. Though they concede that he may be the Chosen One, they do not accept him for training, deeming him too old to begin the life of a Jedi. Nonetheless, Qui-Gon agrees to train him anyway, and Anakin accompanies them back to Naboo where they will fight a final battle against the Trade Federation. Mace Windu "Go with the Queen to Naboo and discover the identity of this dark warrior. That is the clue we need to unravel the mystery of the Sith. He helps test Anakin to see if he should be trained as a Jedi, and the Council determines that Anakin is too old for training. There, he tells Yoda that the truth has become clear: Though one of the two Sith was destroyed, they do not yet know if it was the master or the apprentice. Yoda "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate Yoda is skeptical, but keeps an open mind. He helps test Anakin to see if the boy should be trained as a Jedi, and the two discuss how Anakin is afraid of never seeing his mother again, to which Yoda warns that fear can lead to the dark side. Ultimately, the Council chooses not to admit Anakin into the Jedi. Page 2

In preparation, ILM studied the optical roll-ups of the original trilogy to ensure visual continuity. Plot[ edit ] The Trade Federation upsets order in the Galactic Republic by blockading the planet Naboo in preparation for a full-scale invasion. The Jedi escape and flee to Naboo. During the invasion, Qui-Gon saves the life of a clumsy Gungan outcast, Jar Jar Binks, from being run over and killed by a droid transport. The Jedi unsuccessfully try to persuade the Gungan leader, Boss Nass, into helping the people of Naboo; but he is not interested due to disliking the humans on the surface. However, the Jedi do manage to obtain underwater transport to Theed, the capital city on the surface, narrowly avoiding getting eaten by sea monsters on the way. Qui-Gon senses a strong presence of the Force within Anakin, and is convinced that he is the "chosen one" of the Jedi prophecy who will bring balance to the Force. Anakin wins, to the surprise of Watto, who lost all his money betting on the reigning champion, Sebulba. Anakin joins the group to be trained as a Jedi, leaving behind his mother, Shmi. A duel ensues, but Qui-Gon quickly disengages and escapes onboard the starship. Qui-Gon asks the Jedi Council for permission to train Anakin as a Jedi, but the Council refuses, concerned that Anakin is vulnerable to the dark side of the Force. Undaunted, Qui-Gon wants to relieve Obi-Wan from his tutorship and take up Anakin as his new disciple. Though she is successful in pushing for the vote, Amidala grows frustrated with the corruption in the Senate and decides to return to Naboo. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are ordered by the Jedi Council to accompany the queen to Naboo, as well as to confirm the return of the Sith, whom they believed to be extinct. During a battle in the Royal Starship hangar to free Naboo pilots, Anakin is told to wait in the cockpit of a vacant starfighter by Qui-Gon Jinn, and inadvertently triggers its autopilot, joining the battle against the Federation droid control ship in space. Anakin blunders into the hangar of the droid control ship and destroys the ship from within before escaping, deactivating the entire droid army on the surface. Subsequently, Palpatine is elected as the new Supreme Chancellor, and Gunray is arrested. List of Star Wars: Lucas originally wanted to cast an American actor in the role, but cast Neeson who is Northern Irish because he considered that Neeson had great skills and presence. Lucas said Neeson was a "master actor, who the other actors will look up to, who has got the qualities of strength that the character demands". McGregor was cast from a shortlist of fifty actors, all of whom had to be compared to pictures of young Alec Guinness, who portrayed the elderly Obi-Wan, to make a believable younger version. Over actresses auditioned for the role. The Professional and Beautiful Girls, which impressed Lucas. Portman said, "It was wonderful playing a young queen with so much power. I think it will be good for young women to see a strong woman of action who is also smart and a leader. Hundreds of actors were tested across the UK, Ireland, Canada and the United States [4] before the producers settled on Lloyd who Lucas considered met his requirements of "a good actor, enthusiastic and very energetic". Producer Rick McCallum said that Lloyd was "smart, mischievous and loves anything mechanicalâ just like Anakin. McDiarmid was surprised when Lucas approached him sixteen years after Return of the Jedi to reprise the role of Palpatine because he had assumed that a younger actor would play the role in the prequel films. He lacks a metal covering in this film; R2-D2 humourously refers to it as being "naked". A puppeteer dressed in a color closely matching the backgroundâ in a manner similar to the Japanese puppet theatre Bunraku â manipulated a skeletal C-3PO figure attached to his front while Daniels read his lines off-camera. The puppeteer was erased from the film during post-production. Baker is used for scenes where R2-D2 bends forwards and backwards and wobbles from side-to-side. Robots and a digital model were used in other shots. August, a veteran of Swedish cinema, was chosen after auditioning with Liam Neeson. She was afraid of being rejected because of her accent. Warwick Davis who played the part of the Ewok Wicket W. On the Blu-ray release of The Phantom Menace, which was also used for the 3D reissue, a CG Yoda similar to the one from the other prequels is used instead. On the set, to provide references for the actors, Best was clothed in a suit made of foam and latex and a headpiece. Carson also portrays three minor characters: Dominic West plays the role of a Naboo guard. Christian Simpson appears as Lieutenant Gavyn Sykes. This was in, more than six years since the release of Page 3

Star Wars. Lucas admitted to being "burned out" and announced he would take a break from working on the saga. Because Lucas had developed most of the backstory, the idea of prequels continued to fascinate him. Lucas saw there was still a large audience for his idea of a prequel trilogy and with the development of special effects generated with computer-generated imagery CGI, Lucas considered returning to his saga and directing the film. This was the final step toward turning the franchise into a saga. As with the original trilogy, Lucas intended The Phantom Menace to illustrate several themes throughout the narrative. Duality is a frequent theme; Amidala is a queen who passes as a handmaiden, Palpatine plays on both sides of the war, among others. All three approached directors told Lucas that he should direct the film, as they each found the project "too daunting. McCallum stated that his experience with The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles led to many of his decisions on The Phantom Menace, such as long-term deals with actors and soundstages, the employment of recent graduates with no film experience, and the creation of sets and landscapes with digital technology. In April, McCallum started searching for artists in art, architecture and design schools, and in mid-year he began location scouting with production designer Gavin Bocquet. The three planets on which the story takes placeâ some with varied environments such as the human and Gungan cities of Naboo and three buildings in Coruscant. With the exception of the Gungan city, which had an art nouveau -inspired visual, these locations would be given distinctive looks with some basis in the real world. Chiang uses that orientation to base the droids on the Imperial soldiers, only in the same style of stylized and elongated features seen in tribal African art. Many of the aliens are hybrids, combining features of real animals. At times entire food chains were developed even though only a small percentage of them would appear in the film. Each creature would reflect its environment; those on Naboo were more beautiful because the planet is "lush and more animal-friendly", Tatooine has rough-looking creatures "with weather-beaten leathery skin to protect them from the harsh desert elements", and Coruscant has bipedal, human-looking aliens. Lucas wanted the lightsaber battles to be fast and more intense, depicting the Jedi in their prime. This scene was highly praised by critics and audiences. Stunt coordinator Nick Gillard was recruited to create a new Jedi fighting style for the prequel trilogy. Gillard likened the lightsaber battles to a chess game "with every move being a check ". Because of their short-range weapons, Gillard thought the Jedi would have had to develop a fighting style that merged every swordfighting style, such as kendo and other kenjutsu styles, with other swinging techniques, such as tennis swings and tree-chopping. While training Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor, Gillard wrote a sequence which lasted around 60 seconds and intended to be around five or six sequences per fight. The preference of hand-to-hand combat was intended to give a spiritual and intellectual role to the Jedi. Designer Trisha Biggar and her team created over 1, costumes that were inspired by various cultures. Tatooine followed A New Hope with sun-bleached sand colors, Coruscant had grays, browns and blacks, and Naboo had green and gold for humans while Gungans wore "a leathery look, like their skin". Lucas said he and Biggar would look at the conceptual art to "translat[e] all of these designs into cloth and fabric and materials that would actually work and not look silly". A huge wardrobe department was set up at Leavesden Film Studios to create over costumes for the main actors and 5, for the background ones. Jackson expressed interest in appearing in a Star Wars film, he was approached by casting director Robin Gurland to play Windu. Lucas and McCallum were so impressed with the test tape that they gave Park the role of Maul. His voice was considered "too squeaky" and was dubbed over in post-production by Peter Serafinowicz. Hugh Quarshie considered the part of Panaka as "a good career move" and a production that would be fun to make. As she prepared the script for her directorial debut The Virgin Suicides, Sofia heard Lucas would make a new Star Wars film and asked him if she could accompany him during filming. Lucas offered Coppola a role in the royal entourage, which she accepted because it "seemed like a good vantage point to watch without getting in the way". Filming began on June 26,, and ended on September 30 of that year, primarily taking place at Leavesden Film Studios in England. Leavesden was leased for a two and a half year period so the production company could leave the sets intact and return after principal photography had been completed. On the night following the third day of shooting in Tozeur, an unexpected sandstorm destroyed many of the sets and props. The production was quickly rescheduled to allow for repairs and was able to leave Tunisia on the date originally planned. Scenes with explosions were filmed on replica sets in Leavesden. The sets were often built with the parts that would be Page 4

required on screen; often they were built only up to the heights of the actors. Chroma key was extensively used for digital set extensions, backgrounds or scenes that required cinematographer David Tattersall to seek powerful lamps to light the sets and visual effects supervisor John Knoll to develop software that would remove the blue reflection from shiny floors. Knoll, who remained on set through most of the production, worked closely with Tatterstall to ensure that the shots were suitable to add effects later. The cameras were fitted with data capture models to provide technical data for the CGI artists. Some scenes, mostly of elements filmed by the special effects team, were shot on high definition, digital video tapes to test the performance of digital recordings, which Lucas and McCallum considered the next logical step because of the amount of digitizingâ an expensive process compared to recording directly on digital mediaâ for the compositing of computer-generated effects. All future films would be shot using Sony CineAlta high-definition video cameras. The visual effects crew did not like the original results and crafted Fode and Beed as an entirely computer generated alien. The final sound mix was added in March and the following month the film was completed after the delivery of the remaining visual effects shots. About 1, of the shots in The Phantom Menace have visual effects. The scene in which toxic gas is released on the Jedi is the only sequence with no digital alteration. Knoll previewed 3, storyboards for the film; Lucas accompanied him to explain factors of the shots that would be practical and those which would be created through visual effects. Knoll later said that on hearing the explanations of the storyboards, he did not know how to accomplish what he had seen. The result was a mixture of original techniques and the newest digital techniques to make it difficult for the viewer to guess which technique was being used. Another goal was to create computer-generated characters that could act seamlessly with live-action actors. While filming scenes with CGI characters, Lucas would block the characters using their corresponding voice actors on-set. The voice actors were then removed and the live-action actors would perform the same scene alone. A CGI character would later be added into the shot to complete the conversation. The Neimodian suits, which were originally intended as digital characters, were delivered one day before they would be required on set. Dudman traveled to Skywalker Ranch to see the original creatures that could be reused, and read the script for a breakdown of scenes with practical creatures, leaving only the more outlandish designs to be created using CGI. Except for Jake Lloyd inside a hydraulically controlled cockpit and a few practical podracer models, the entire podracing sceneâ which the effects crew designed to be as "out of this world" as possibleâ is computer-generated. Chapter 3 : Watch Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace () Free Online Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was released on DVD in ; it was the first Star Wars film to be officially released on DVD. The DVD features a commentary track by Lucas, producer Rick McCallum, editor Ben Burtt, animation director Rob Coleman, and visual effects supervisors John Knoll, Dennis Muren, and Scott Squires. Ultimate Edition[ edit ] Differences between versions[ edit ] In the recording studio, Williams records cues multiple times. One cue can be made up of several takes, putting together the best moments of each, replacing flubbed notes. Since each track is run several times, each performance differs slightly. Occasionally, Williams will change orchestrations right on the spot. The score also makes use of several insert pieces which usually replace certain sections within a cue. Examples of Different Takes: Track 4 on Disc 1 of the Ultimate Edition vs. The final chord was used instead at the end of "The Droid Invasion". Track 31 on Disc 1 of the Ultimate Edition vs. Track 7 of the 1-disc album vs video games: The Album also features a similar loop, as do the video games. Track 32 on Disc 1 of the Ultimate Edition vs. The track segues straight into the ending moments of "The Flag Parade", whereas in the film, there is a considerable gap in between. Take to Your Ships has many different orchestrations heard throughout the UE, the album, earlier and later LucasArts games. Duel of the Fates has several different orchestrations heard in the games, Album, and Ultimate Edition. The Alternate take heard in the games has a loud bang in the middle of the track possibly from an instrumentalist hitting their stand. It also is shorter and eliminates the return to the descending middle segment. Track listing[ edit ] Due to the Ultimate Edition portrayal of the score as a film version, and to alleviate long tracks, certain tracks may be several minutes long, but are broken up into segments. When being played, the individual segments are separate tracks. The main track names are in bold and their separate portions follow. Released on November 14, Page 6

Chapter 4 : Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Reviews - Metacritic Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace is a American epic space opera written and directed by George Lucas, produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by 20th. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute. Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo. While the Congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict Synopsis "I have a bad feeling about this. Thirty-two years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, there is trade dispute between the Trade Federation and the outlying systems of the Galactic Republic, which has led to a blockade of the small planet of Naboo. Unknown to them, the Trade Federation is in league with the mysterious Darth Sidious, Dark Lord of the Sith, who secretly orders Gunray to invade Naboo and kill the two Jedi upon their arrival. When Gunray asked if it was illegal, Sidious implied that he would ensure that the invasion was made legal. Using poison gas, the Viceroy attempts to poison the two Jedi Knights, but fails. After having to battle through squads of battle droids, Jinn and Kenobi make their way to the command deck where Gunray is located, shielding himself behind blast doors. The Jedi are forced to flee upon the arrival of two Destroyer Droids, but with their ship, Radiant VII, now destroyed, the two Jedi stow themselves aboard two separate Federation landing craft leaving for the surface of Naboo to begin the invasion. After questioning Gunray regarding the arrival of ambassadors sent by the Chancellor, Gunray claims that they have been greeted by no such ambassadors, leaving Amidala startled. Gunray, after ending communications with her, informs his aide that they should disable all communications on the planet in case she suspected an invasion. Meanwhile, Amidala is conversing with Senator Sheev Palpatine regarding the recent attempt at negotiations and how Gunray claimed that they did not receive any ambassadors. Surprised, Palpatine states that he had assurances from the Chancellor that his ambassadors did arrive. However, Palpatine is unable to finish his sentence and his hologram begins to short out. Naboo Governor, Sio Bibble, suspects that the shorting out of communications is a sign that an invasion from the Trade Federation is imminent. The Jedi liberate the Queen and her guards from the battle droid invasion. The Jedi meet the Gungan leader, Boss Nass, and ask him to help the people of Naboo, but Nass refuses and sends them off in a bongo submarine. They are attacked by an opee sea killer and a colo claw fish but both fish are eaten by a sando aqua monster. While searching for a new hyperdrive generator, they befriend young Anakin Skywalker, a slave boy, whose master is Watto, a Toydarian junk dealer. Watto has the required parts in stock, but Qui-Gon is unable to purchase them, as Republic credits are worthless on Tatooine. Anakin races ahead of Sebulba during the Boonta Eve Podrace. Anakin is gifted with piloting and mechanical abilities, and has built an almost-complete droid named C-3PO. Qui-Gon senses a strong presence of the Force in Anakin, and feels that he may be the Chosen One â the one who will fulfill a prophecy by bringing balance to the Force. Anakin wins the race and joins the team as they head for Coruscant, where Qui-Gon plans to seek permission from the Jedi High Council to train Anakin to be a Jedi. Maul appears just as the group is leaving the planet, and duels with Qui-Gon. The fight is cut short when Qui-Gon manages to escape his black-robed assailant by jumping onboard the Naboo Royal Starship as it takes off. Qui-Gon also informs the Council about Anakin, hoping that he can be trained as a Jedi. After testing the boy and deliberating with one another, the Council refuses, deeming him too old for training according to the Jedi Code. They are also concerned due to their sensing of a seemingly clouded future and a strong presence of fear in the boy. Seeing no alternative, the Queen takes this advice when she addresses the Senate. Palpatine is among the candidates to become the new Supreme Chancellor. The Queen later announces to Palpatine that she will return to their home planet to repel the invasion of her people by herself. The Jedi Council sends the two Jedi to accompany the Queen back to Naboo, hoping to shed light on any Sith involvement. Boss Nass at the Gungan Sacred Place. He then leads them to a sacred area which he was certain they were at. Next, Amidala informs Qui-Gon and Nass of her battle strategy: Nute Gunray, taking the bait regarding the Gungan Army, informs Darth Sidious about the Page 7

Grand Army, the latter then promptly ordering Gunray to wipe out the Gungans and the Naboo as the Trade Federation prepares for battle. Captain Roos Tarpals orders the Gungan Grand Army to start up their shield, to protect them from ranged attack. OOM-9 has his tanks fire first, but seeing them fail to penetrate the powerful shield, orders them to cease fire. Daultay Dofine gives the command to activate the battle droids. These droids march through the shield, and destroy its generator. Meanwhile, Amidala and her force fight their way back into the royal palace and capture Nute Gunray. At the same time, in a Theed hangar bay, Darth Maul engages in combat with the two Jedi, using a double-bladed lightsaber. The battle moves from the hangar, across a series of catwalks, to the Theed Generator Complex. During the fight, Obi-Wan is separated from his master by being kicked off of a catwalk. He grabs the edge of another catwalk below and jumps back up to where Qui-Gon and Maul continue to fight. By this time, Qui-Gon and Maul have become separated by a force field in the entrance to the Generator Room. Obi-Wan catches up to them, but is divided from his master by four force fields. When the force fields deactivates, Jinn and Maul continue their battle while Kenobi remains divided from the battle by one force field when they all reactivate. Obi-Wan saves himself from falling when he manages to grab onto a pipe protruding from the wall of the shaft. Obi-Wan gives his word that he will. The newly-elected Chancellor Palpatine arrives to congratulate Queen Amidala on her victory, as Nute Gunray is sent to stand trial for his crimes. The Gungans and the Naboo celebrate their victory. Being that there are only ever two Sith at any given time a Master and an apprentice, both Masters believe that one must still remain. The Naboo and Gungans organize a great victory celebration on the streets of Theed, in front on the palace. Obi-Wan and Anakin are present, the younger now wearing formal Jedi attire, and in his hair is a special braid: Queen Amidala presents a gift of appreciation and friendship to Boss Nass and the Gungan people. Chapter 5 : Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace () - IMDb Critics Consensus: Burdened by exposition and populated with stock characters, The Phantom Menace gets the Star Wars prequels off to a bumpy -- albeit visually dazzling -- start. The newest chapter in Star Wars history has a pretty decent, albeit high-maintenance, game to go with it. Star Wars Episode I: Think Metal Gear Solid without the stealth. Playing as the two non-jedi, the game turns into your basic run-n-gun action with lots of switches to trigger, droids to shoot, and people to converse with. In the fully accelerated version, the graphics shine like the Naboo moon, but only those few blessed with maxed-out high-end PCs will fully appreciate all the lighting effects, reflective surfaces, and subtle transparencies. The other 90 percent of us will see an easily crashable. The game contains excellent voice characterizations and fantastic sound effects especially those subtle ones, like the sound Destroyer Droids make rolling down the halls, or the ambient effects in the Naboo swamps, but, again, delicate sound-card management is required. The developers of Phantom Menace also made the controls fairly manageable: Leaps of Faith Speaking of the Dark Side, the game has a few. Another problem is the large amount of bartering when you get to Tatooine: You have to constantly trade just to get off the damn sand planet. Consequently, as in the movie, you start to feel weighed down by a plot BEjV that feels thicker than Bantha crap. Two words would have fixed that: Force fo Reckon With Yet Menace stands as a testament to fan loyalty. Those Star Warsians who must have everything from Phantom Menace ticket stubs to illustrated toilet paper will definitely need to feel this force. Others tired of the hype will feel nothing but the Farce with this game. Shields can take lots of damage and appear when a ton of trouble is headed your way. If shielded, get to your next objective and save your game. Forget the Destroyer Droids. Outrun them at all costs. Some switches can be triggered only by using the Force Push. Check carefully amongst the foliage in the Naboo swamps for hidden health power-ups. In Tatoolne, hanging from overhead cables can be hazardous. Scan the street for henchmen and blast them with a grenade or laser shot. Watch the Queen closely. Sound Great sound, awesome music, and really annoying Gungans. Control Minimal fuss rewards you with maximum achievement. But those frustrating leaps of faith between platforms will ride your patience like a Tusken Raider on a Bantha. Overview Ah, those words that, when heard, bring out the child in all of us It echoes a simpler time when we could get ourselves lost in our own imaginations. With the recent release of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, kids today are lucky enough to have enough technology to get lost in the world of Star Wars George Lucas and his talented team at LucasArts. And believe-you-me, after watching the movie I HAD to have this game. Gameplay, Controls, Interface The premise is quite simple -- even simpler if you have already seen the movie. You have a podracer, you have a track, and you have to go around in a circle and hope to end up ahead of the pack. Imagine two huge like engines tethered to your sled pod, held together by a plasma-energy beam. Surprisingly, the design of these podracers "almost" makes sense. LucasArts also does a great job representing the physics that would be involved while playing the game. You have these podracers and you race them against other podracers, um You have over 21 podracers to choose from. All of these are distinct in their styling, handling and drivers. You get to race on multiple tracks strung across eight distinct planets, each with its own theme and style of racing. As you successfully finish each race, you will gain Trugats money that enable you to upgrade your podracer and prepare for the next race. Finish first and a new podracer is unveiled that you can use for future races. This is where the "storyline" in Racer starts to get iffy. You never really get a sense of belonging to your pilot or podracer. Since you can choose from multiple pods and multiple pilots, it kind of lacks continuity. I would have liked to see the same pilot used and you be allowed to upgrade from there. If you decided to try a different "character" from the movie, you could have chosen that pilot at the start of the career. How does it play? Simply put, if nothing else, Racer simulates speed better than any other game I have ever played. As you may have read in my other reviews, I am a big fan of force-feedback. If implemented correctly, this can entrance me into a state where my joystick becomes an extension of my persona I cannot believe how good Racer translates the physics and handling of the podracers through a simple joystick. Sounds pretty good so far, eh? Wait until you finish a race, though What were they Page 9

thinking? The interface for preparing for a race, upgrading your podracer, and just about anything other than actually racing is confusing as all get out. At first, before reading the manual, I would just get mad and go on to the next race. After reading the manual, it started to make sense You see, in some menus you need to use the mouse; in others, the keyboard; in others only the game controller seems to work. I ended up juggling so many peripherals around to upgrade my pod that I wound up ctrl-alt-elbowing my way into a frenzy. Coincidently, LucasArts posted a little blurb on their support site about this shortcoming. Allow me to quote: You can interact with some items using the mouse and others with the keyboard. We recommend exploring the various menus thoroughly to find a method of getting around that suits you best. I need to explore and see which controls work and which do not? So the game goes like this: Race, win, race, win, upgrade, race, lose, upgrade, re-race, win, and so on. The difficulty goes from absurdly easy to pretty challenging with little in between. You actually "desire" to get to the next track to see what LucasArts is going to throw at you. Although I am still struggling in the final stages of the Galactic Circuit, I have many friends who have since finished the game. What is there to do at this point? You either shelve it or play on the net, right? If you are lucky enough to have a LAN available, the game can be quite fun to play against friends or foes. Multiplayer mode supports up to eight podracers which would be quite a blast, I bet I could not for the life of me get my home network up and running. I am suspecting Bantha fodder, but I have used too many geeky Star Wars terms in this review already. Graphics Graphically, this game has very few equals. If you slow the podracer down, you may notice some minor graphical glitches If you do notice, well, you must be one of those 3D rendering vs. Each planet, each track, is exquisitely rendered with tons of eye-candy and if you spend too much time gawking -- well, trust me when I say that at mph you need to be looking at the road ahead instead of the pretty countryside. You can drive your podracer from one of four different views. This is where complete and utter Star Wars-Geek-Immersion comes in. It left me speechless. The only oddity for me was the garish low-resolution map overlay that appears on your Heads Up Display. Thankfully, LucasArts allows you to change this to a more suitable progress-bar view that is more helpful in the long run. Oh, and get this: The game has the ever-so-popular "lens flare. I am just happy that Racer allows you to turn it off. Oh yeah, and John Williams. And if you can still fit into those Underoos Documentation The documentation is quite good. In reality, the documentation becomes a lifesaver since a lot of the between-race interface can be quite infuriating without some additional guidance. There is even a good attempt to suck you into the storyline like that would be hard. Each of the eight planets is given a back story along with a small blurb about each of the podracers you are allowed to drive. I would have liked the manual to include a little more information on the various upgrades that you have available for your podracer. The interface limits most of the information to performance bar graphs without really understanding the impact of what you are adding. Chapter 6 : Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace () - Full Cast & Crew - IMDb The spectacular DVD release of Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace--arguably one of the best DVDs ever--will go a long way toward making it up to Star Wars fans who were disappointed by the theatrical release. (But, in case you're wondering, there's no option to delete Jar Jar.). Chapter 7 : Star Wars: Episode I â The Phantom Menace - Wikipedia As with any previous "Star Wars" film, the cinematography and special effects used in "The Phantom Menace" are excellent; but sadly, the writing and dialog are pallid. The film's two biggest problems are the character Jar Jar Binks and Jake Lloyd's portrayal of Anakin.
