It is always a full evening of fellowship, great food, patriotic expressions and an opportunity for our chapter to join with so many other people of the community in giving thanks for the great liberties and privileges afforded us in our nation. Last Tuesday the Heralds of Harmony had the distinct privilege of singing at a surprise going-away party for Colonel Lawrence Martin, who, for the past two years, has served as Commander of the 6th Air Mobility Wing at MacDill Air Force Base. Colonel Martin and his family (wife Julia and sons Jeff and JJ) were honored in a formal gathering at the Tampa Yacht and Country Club in South Tampa. Besides many co-workers, associates and friends, Commander Martin was lauded by another very special guest at the festivities, Tampa Mayor, Pam Iorio. The mayor proclaimed June 22 as Colonel Lawrence Martin Day in all of Tampa and ended her glowing remarks by presenting the Commander with the key to the city. The Heralds were indeed honored to be present and pay musical tribute to the nation Colonel Lawrence serves and to serenade him and his family.
