Hey, everyone! Who s taken a Road Trip recently? Maybe you traveled for spring break and spent hours and hours in a car. What do you do in the car when you re on a road trip? (Wait for response) Those are great! I wish I had those sorts of things when I was traveling on road trips as a kid. No, when I was a kid, we had to make up games on the fly. One of my favorites was checking out license plates. I loved trying to find license plates from faraway states. And I always tried to find those custom plates that spelled things out. Road_Game With that in mind, I ve created a game that pays homage to those fancy plates of my past... ELEM Road WK 4 (1) Here s how this works. I ll flash a license plate on the screen. The license plate contains letters that spell out in license plate code something to do with a road trip. RAISE YOUR HAND if you know the answer! In fact, I wanna start saving up for a trip. But you know what saving up requires? Patience! Does anyone remember what patience means? (Wait for response) Road_Patience_Slide Patience is waiting until later for what you want now. I REALLY wanna go to Hawaii now but I know I should save up and wait. My friend told me I should dig into my current savings, but I ve been saving up for a car. Hmmm should I keep saving for the car or spend the money and head to Hawaii? You know what? If I m hungry, I m hungry right now! I don t want to wait for dinner to be ready. If I see a present that I know is for me, I want to open it right now! I don t wait until Christmas morning. That s true of me now, and it was true of me when I was your age, too. Patience is difficult! You know what, let s check in with our Bible story today while I figure this out. Road_Wk 4_Bible Story_Video Road_Logo_Slide Now, we all hear this story about the Israelites and we all think the same thing: How silly do you have to be to worship a fake, gold cow that someone made out of your old earrings? ELEM Road WK 4 (5) But if we re not careful, you and I can do something kind of like that, too. Maybe not to the extreme that the Israelites did, but there are times when we all worship things that aren t the one true God! Which brings us to our bottom line for today! Road_Wk 4_Bottom Line_Slide Say it with me When you think you can t wait, think about what s true! When we worship something other than God, it doesn t have to be a statue. We can worship anything by making it more important than our relationship with God. We care about sports or music or food or video games more than we care about anything or anyone else. ELEM Road WK 4 (6) Those things become so important to us that it gets all our attention and our whole heart. You give it so much attention and so much of your time, it s sort of like a little god in your life. Imagine if the Israelites had paused and said something like, You know, Moses IS taking a long time to come back. But we can wait for him to talk to the one true God. We can be patient. God loves us, and He wants us to be close to Him. Sometimes that means we need to trust Him and wait patiently, even if we don t understand. Road_Worship You know what helps me keep my cool when I m waiting for something? I remember that God s love will NEVER let me down. Let s worship Him today!
