See how to combine purchased embroidery designs from www.janomeembroidery.com, use built-in designs from your Horizon Memory Craft 15000 and/or those created in Digitizer MBX V5. 16 or 18 pillow form Designs: Bee #12389-10 from www.janome-embroidery.com Janome Supplies Required: Horizon Memory Craft 15000 Digitizing software MBX5 ¼ Seam foot O Acufeed Flex AD foot Quilt Guide GR hoop Pre-wound bobbins Honeycomb design #Home Decor 3_04.jef (HMC15000 Built-in design) Fabric/Notions Required: ½ yd. yellow quilter s cotton for pillow and pillow back ¼ yd. yellow/gold or black quilter s cotton for pillow border Embroidery thread colors: white, black, brown, lt. yellow, yellow, golden yellow, gold metallic All-purpose thread for construction 18 square adhesive tearaway stabilizer Fabric marking pen Ruler/rotary cutter/mat Blue tip needle 16.5 or 18.5 square batting Creating the Pillow Design: 1. Open Digitizer MBX V5 software. 2. Select File and Open Design or click on the Open file folder icon. 3. Find the Horizon Link Suite folder in Documents. 4. Select the Embroidery Design Folder. 5. Find the Home Décor folder and select design #3_04.jef. 6. RIGHT Click on hoop and select the GR hoop for the drop down menu. 7. Select Lettering from the tool bar at the right of your design screen. 8. Select the Baseline free line and alignment center. 9. Click into the Enter Text box in the Object Properties box that appears on the right of your screen and type JUST in all caps. 10. Just below the Insert Charter box on the right is the Font selection box click on the down arrow on the right then use the down arrow on your key board to select the Wild West font. 11. Resize the font to 2.0 tall. 12. Rotate the design 90 degrees. 13. Now click Mirror X () and then Mirror Y. 14. Center the design along and parallel to the right side of the hoop. 15. Right click or press the escape button the end alterations on the Just lettering. Page 2
16. Click on the Fill tab at the top of the Object Properties box. 26. Under the Pattern section select Feather2. 17. Select the Tatami fill. 18. Click and highlight the lettering in the Enter text box on the Objects properties box on the right. 19. Type the word bee in all lower case and change the font like before to Script, change the size to 2.0. 20. Resize the font to 2.0 tall. 21. Rotate the design 90 degrees. 27. Resize the font to 2.6 tall and 7.5 wide - *Hint you will need to unlock proportional scaling. 28. Rotate the design 90 degrees. 29. Now click Mirror X and then Mirror Y. 22. Now click Mirror X and then Mirror Y. 23. Click into the Enter text box and type the word AWESOME. 24. Click on the Fill tab at the top of the Object Properties box. 25. Select the emboss fill. Alignment: 1. Hold down the CTRL button on your keyboard and left click to select the words Just, Awesome and the honeycomb design. 2. Click on the Arrange tab at the top of the screen. 3. Select Align and space from the drop down menu. 4. Select Align Centers Horizontally. 5. Select the word bee hold down the CTRL button and left click on the JUST (in that order). Page 3
6. Click on the Arrange tab at the top of the screen. 7. Select Align and space from the drop down menu. 8. Select Align top. Insert the Bee Design: 1. Insert design #12389-10 from www.janome-embroidery.com 7. Hold down the CTRL button and click on each of the three words. 8. Select the black color from the lower thread pallet. Save the Design: 1. Select Output Design from the bottom of the left tool bar. a. Select File and Insert Design. 2. Position the bee design into the open area of Honeycomb just below the word bee. 3. Hold down the CTRL button on your keyboard and left click on the word bee. 4. Click on the Arrange tab at the top of the screen. 5. Select Align and space from the drop down menu. 6. Select Align centers vertically. 2. Select Send a design to send the design directly to your machine. Page 4
3. Select Sewing Machine. 4. Select Built in to save directly to the machine. 5. Click on the red arrow to send the design. Creating pillow top: 1. Cut a piece of pillow cotton fabric 14 square. 2. Fold fabric into quarters to find center and mark with washout marker. At Your Machine: 1. Hoop the stabilizer into the GR hoop and place fabric on top aligning marks on hoop with folds of fabric. 2. Load design into your machine either from the software if you sent it directly or from the USB stick. 3. Insert pre-wound bobbin and thread machine with first embroidery thread color in sequence. 4. Baste the fabric into the hoop. a. Touch 5. Turn on the single color view. 6. Follow the color sequence until you reach the outline of the wings change to metallic gold. 7. Remove design from hoop when completed. 8. Trim design to ¼ beyond stitching. 9. Remove stabilizer from back of design. Creating the Pillow Front: 1. Cut two strips 5 x 18.5. 2. Cut two strips 3.75 x 8.75. 3. Attach ¼ Seam foot O. 4. Thread machine with all-purpose sewing thread. 5. Stitch the two 3.75 strips to each side of the embroidered front using a ¼ seam. 6. Stitch the two 18.5 strips to the embroidered front using a ¼ seam. 7. Trim block to 16.5 square. Quilting: 1. Layer batting and pillow top fuse if fusible or baste together. 2. Attach Acufeed Flex foot AD and select quilting stitch of your choice. 3. Stitch parallel rows of stitching across the top and bottom strips using the edge of the foot or the Quilt Guide. 4. Use decorative or straight stitch, matching or metallic thread in the needle. b. Touch Page 5
Finishing: 1. Cut remaining pillow fabric to create a fold over back. 2. One piece 16.5 x18 and a second piece 16.5 x 8. 3. Finish one 16.5 edge of the 16.5 x 8 by double over 1 and stitch along inside fold. 4. Finish on of the 16.5 edges of the larger piece by doing the same 1 fold and then a 4 fold. 5. Stitch along inside fold. 6. Overlap the finished edges with the longer one on top. 7. Layer the finished pillow front right side down. 8. Stitch around entire edge in a ¼ seam angle across corners, trim and turn. 9. Fill with pillow form Now BEE AWESOME! Page 6
