Science teaching is a basis fr the verall develpment f the child as well as a fundamental element in the scientific literacy. Training and innvative materials t supprt teachers t deliver high quality science educatin are needed.

Science is ften apprached in a manner that is discnnected frm the lives f students in the early years f educatin. Yuth limited interest in STEM.

The State f Art f Science Educatin in Eurpe Imprving science educatin has been a key bjective f Eurpean cuntries since the end f the 1990s, aiming t encurage students t study science, prmte a psitive image f science and imprve public knwledge n it. Natinal and Eurpean measures fr science educatin are: implementing curriculum refrms, creating partnerships between schls and cmpanies, scientists and research centres, initializing prjects fcusing n cntinuing prfessinal develpment f teachers.

The State f Art f Science Educatin in Eurpe Teachers training in science educatin Changing rles f teachers and expectatins abut them. Strengthening teachers cmpetences is a central cncern. Eurpean strategic framewrk fr prmtin f science educatin include the imprvement f science teacher educatin. Science prmtin activities prvide strng supprt fr teacher prfessinal develpment. Specific natinal initiatives fr initial science teacher educatin are nt very frequent.

The SciLit impact The staff f the educatinal rganisatins > a high level f cmpetences necessary t fster science educatin. Students > will braden their hrizns gaining knwledge f science: prmte their desire t explre the wrld, will be able t understand better the mechanisms f cause and effect relatinships that ccur in their envirnment, will gain the cnfidence t challenge the reality. Schls > increase teaching level by integrating innvative materials in the educatinal curricula.

Cnclusins EU cuntries have prmted the study f science, hwever different challenges exist. Need t cntinue wrking thrugh an active c-peratin n cmmn plicies addressed t the imprvement f strategies and t the building f new practices fr science teaching. The SciLit prject establishes critical success factrs necessary t put the mst apprpriate means t ensure the teaching perfrmance f teachers in the applicatin f the new prcesses f science teaching in early years educatin.
