NMQA s February Workshop and Program hosts Cheryl Sleboda - for a workshop entitled Fabulous Fabric Manipulations on Sunday, February 24th. At the Monday, February 25, evening meeting at 6:30pm the program will be: Be a Little Weird and Be a Better Quilter! Fabric manipulation is the most fun one can have at a sewing machine. Actually, when you think about it, everything done at the sewing machine is fabric manipulation-- especially patchwork and garment sewing. We turning pieces of fabric
into entirely new fabric, or a one-dimensional piece of cloth into a three-dimensional object. Common "manipulation techniques include of pin tucks, gathers, smocking, and texturizing techniques. What will Cheryl show us? If you google fabric manipulation techniques, you will find tons of sites to whet your appetite. SOMETHING DIFFERENT!: Arts Alive!--at the Brewery and More. This Sunday, Jan 27th, Corrales MainStreet is offering residents and visitors a first look at the new, almost completed ExNovo Brewery located on Corrales Road. In addition to viewing the manufacturing facility, the soon-to-be renovated tap room area (formerly Jitters and Junk Coffee Bar) will be open. Joel Gregory, owner, promises that all your questions will be answered. The Corrales Society of Artists will display the work of many of our finest artists inside the very spacious brewery building. As visitors enjoy the displays, they can enjoy small beer samples provided by ExNovo (although the beer will be from Bosque Brewery since ExNovo will not yet be brewing). A food truck will offer a variety of lunch items. Where: 30 minutes from ABQ and 10 minutes from Rio Rancho on SR 448, Corrales Road. Look for the colored blinking lights and starbursts as you travel along Corrales Road. Maps will be available everywhere and more information is on the Corrales Arts Alive! Facebook page.

Dyefusion to Exhibit in Placitas The Placitas Artists Series organization will show the work of Dyefusion in February. The exhibit can be seen at the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church on Highway 165, 7 miles east of I-25 at Exit 242. The work of the 7 fiber artists can be seen Sunday, February 3 through Saturday, March 2. The public is invited to the artists reception on Sunday, February 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The reception is in conjunction with the concert series. Concert Tickets are available at www.placitasartistsseries.org. There is no charge for the reception and exhibit. Dyefusion is a small group of 7 surface design artists who explore color, pattern and design using fiber reactive dyes. Each artist designs art quilts from the fabrics they have created or modified. Dyefusion will also be featured at the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta 2019 on Thursday, May 30 through Saturday, June 1. Show hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.
Fidget Quilt Workshops - Ann Silva's Bernina Monday, January 28, 2019 @9:30am Fidgets are items that can be placed on a small quilt to provide activity (busy work, problem solving, activity mimic-ing Activities of Daily Living, Such as tying shoes/buttoning-unbuttoning/velcro-ing shoes, sensory input through varying textures (fabric, trims), visual interest through bright colors, fabric scenes) for an individual with Alzheimer's/dementia. They can provide memory stimulation, too! The size comes out to 18" x 24" quilt and a theme can be picked so the whole quilt and the fidgets reflect that specific theme. www.annsilva.com
A mixed-media art retreat will take place in Northern New Mexico this spring. The allinclusive, three-day art retreat is limited to 13 women and will be held at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa, one hour north of Santa Fe, NM. The dates are Friday, April 26, through Sunday, April 28, 2019. Attendees will work on a project entitled Mapping Our Journey. They will learn many techniques for creating book pages, then binding the pages into an artist s book. Finally, they will
decorate boxes in which to place the books. The content will be based, in part, on attendees experience of nature in the tranquil wooded area. Registration includes lodging (double occupancy) in one of two unique private homes at Ojo Caliente Resort and six meals, plus all art supplies. When not in class, attendees can use the resort s mineral springs pools and other spa amenities. Early registration is $972 before March 1 st or $1,044 thereafter. (2 nights lodging, 3 days of workshop and meals, all material and tool use AND soaking/steaming at Ojo Caliente!) Art instructors Ruth Anna Abigail, PhD, Cynthia Leespring, and Julie Filatoff are accomplished mixed-media artists and teachers. Navajo Rug Auction to Benefit Las Cruces Museums Slated for February 2 The Foundation for Las Cruces Museums has scheduled its fifth fundraising Navajo rug auction at the Branigan Cultural Center, 501 North Main Street in Las Cruces, for Saturday, February 2. Approximately 250 lots of rugs and other Native American art will be offered for sale. The preview will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and the auction will begin at noon. Appraisals of Native American rugs, jewelry, and baskets (sorry, no kachina dolls or paintings) will be available the evening before the auction during the February 1 First Friday Art Ramble, from 5 to 8 p.m., for a donation of $10 per item. The auction is conducted by the R.B. Burnham Trading Post, who are well known for their work in trading Native art for five generations. Whether you are a collector or just interested in learning about rugs, the fast-moving, fun, and exiting auction is a great opportunity to view a wide variety of styles. Admission is free and proceeds from purchases benefit Navajo weavers and the Foundation for Las Cruces Museums.
