NCML REPEATER Vol X No July 0 President MOCARS Officers - 0 Vice President Secretary Moore County Amateur Radio Society Carthage, NC Charles Wackerman, WCY -0 wcy@arrl.net J Hammond, NBRD - nbrd@arrl.net Jonathan Poverud jonathan@kjpzr.us www.mocars.org www.facebook.com/ncml The President s Corner I am so used to speaking of Field Day as an event in the future that it is hard to get my mind around the fact that it is over and done with for 0. In fact, it is equally difficult to realize that the year is more than half over, or to put it a different way Christmas 0 is now closer than Christmas 0. Let s see now --- how many shopping days do we have left? Just kidding. PIO Treasurer ARES EC Skywarn AEC James Johnson, KITAT 00-0 kitat@arrl.net April Hammond, NALH - nalh@arrl.net Lionel Bryson, NYYL -0 nyyl@arrl.net Raymond Arnold, KGCPM - Repeater Trustee Ernie Bryant, KRW & Past President -00 July UPCOMING HAMFESTS Mid-Summer Swapfest Cary If you know of any hamfest that should be listed and is not, please let me know so it can be included in the next edition. Hamfests need your support and attendance to survive! As most of you know I was hospitalized with sepsis (an infection of the blood) and pneumonia in early June and while I was out of hospital by Field Day the doctors absolutely forbid me to attend that event (or anything else that is outside in the heat and humidity). The other shoe fell on July th when a test revealed that my blood oxygen is too low and that I must use supplemental oxygen when I am taking any sort of exercise or exertion. I hate carrying that bottle around but I must admit that I feel better when I am breathing extra oxygen. With that settled maybe I will be able to get back to radio and other important things now. I sure hope so. Cindy (KMBLC) and I are experimenting with a couple of rarely used ham bands and we would like to invite others to join us. We bought a pair of new Alenco handhelds that cover the 0 and 00 MHz bands. I have been using 0 for about years now and have worked as far east as Wilmington using a copper j-pole that Raymond helped me with. I am also able to work the repeaters in several NC cities and a net in the Raleigh area. 00 MHz is another story. There are repeaters here in NC, the closest is in Cary, but I have not yet managed to hear it. Continue on page
