Cover Painting Young Dancing Girl 20 x!6 Oil Painting El Paso Artist, Olivina Mata One on One Josef Langston I heard a friend tell me, You shouldn t date your paintings, cause a person interested in buying it, may wonder, why hasn t it sold before now, but I date them for a personal reason, I want to know when I painted it. Recently I received an email from a young lady asking me about a certain painting, and to my surprise I had painted it 45 years ago., I know that here in El Paso we have some very talented Artists. It s sad to see our city rep s going outside our community to do our artistic projects.. An artist friend of mine, is well known all over our country, as a Mural Artist, he s painted murals in Banks in Dallas, and many other big cities all over America, but isn t even known here in El Paso. Mr Ernesto Martinez. Ruben Rodarte, a portrait artist, should have the corporate leaders beating a path to his doorway, But this is El Paso, and it s our job to educate them.

Many a guy has gone with his wife or girlfriend to and Art Show, without any plans of buying any thing, and came out with one of Bob s Truck Paintings. I personally was surprised at how quickly he gets into and completes the field study. I watched Bob do a demonstration at the first Western Show we held here in El Paso, at a local VFW Post, and the Bowen Ranch had brought their Chow Wagons there out side our show area, and Bob gave us a plein aire painting class. It was super to watch such a talent at work creating a master piece.

Good Old Days Written by Joe Langston These are the good old days my friends, they are also the best of times. Remember, yesterday is history, tomorrow is a dream, but today is everything we make of it, don t waste it in yesterday or tomorrow, Enjoy and make it the every best you can, it s what you have. This Month has been dedicated as Tom Lea s Month, what a great honor, to have an Artist honored like that here is fantastic. We have had the honor to been blessed with so many great Artists, many still walk among us. That why I tried to launch the magazine this quarter to coincide with this being known as Tom Lea s month. That was one factor in this decision, the other, the best time of the year for us Artists to make sales of our paintings. Yesterday while watching CNN, they were talking about how they figured out America was going to spend over a billion dollars this year on Halloween on treats and costumes for their pets, WOW, we have just got to get our work in front of America.
Good Old Days I will say that people will always spend more for entertainment then they should, I can remember when a good Painting hanging in the living room or the dining room was really a treasure to the family, we Artist have to stress the importance of an original work of Art, against a print. There are so many thing we can do to help our own situation in our own community that we just have to roll up our shirt sleeve and get to work promoting our Art. When car sales are down, the auto dealers put out more ad s, they don t wait till times get better, they realize they ll only get better if we make them better. President Kennedy once said, we must now get to work, with God s help, realizing that here on earth, God s help must truly be that of our own. As I have traveled across our area, El Paso, Fort Bliss, Old Mesilla, Las Cruces, Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, and Alamogordo, I can say, we have been blessed with many talented artists in our area In today s El Paso Times there is a story about this Artist and a statue he was paid to make and put up here. Our own artist here could have done a better work of Art. Just like they are trying to go with made in America, we should stress, CREATED IN EL PASO, BY EL PASO ARTISTS.

Our City Rep s This is what I was talking about when I started to write the article in this edition, last night they were talking about some other outside artist coming in to do some other art project in our Air Port other places around town. This is projects, our artist here can do, and keep the money in town.
