Sewing Directions: Press all seams open and use ¼ seams, unless otherwise indicated. Make 8 Red & White Cross Blocks, 10 O-Shape Blocks and 7 Heart Blocks Red & White Cross Block 1. Join one white and one dot print HST (Shape 5) together along the long edge to make one HST unit. Press the seam toward the dot print HST. Make four identical HST units. 2. Sew two dot print parallelograms (Shape 7) together along one long edge as shown, stopping ¼" from the upper edge. Press the seams open. 3. Join one white/dot print HST unit to the parallelograms, placing the dot print side of the HST unit next to the parallelograms. Start and stop the stitching ¼" from the corner of the HST unit next to the parallelogram to create a Y-seam. Press the seams away from the HST unit to complete the corner unit. Make four identical corner units. 4. Sew one white HST (Shape 5) to each long edge of one joined pair of parallelogram unit. 5. Arrange the corner units in two rows as shown. Join the units in each row together, matching seams. Press the seams open. Join the rows together, matching seams. Press the seams open. Page 4 of 8
O-Shape Block 1. Join one white and one dot print HST (Shape 5) together along the long edge to make one HST unit. Press the seams toward the dot print HST. Make four identical HST units. 2. Sew one HST unit to each short end of one rectangle, placing the dot print side next to the rectangle as shown. Press the seams open. Make four identical units. 3. Join a dot print HST (Shape 5) to each side of the white square on point (Shape 6). Press the seams toward the white square on point (Shape 6) to make the center unit. 4. Sew a rectangle unit to each side of the center unit. Press the seams open. Sew the remaining rectangle units to the top and bottom of the center unit. Page 5 of 8
Heart Shape Block 1. Join one white HST (Shape 5) to each short edge of one dot print QST (Shape 4). Press the seams toward the dot print QST. Repeat to make three identical QST units. 2. Join one white and one dot print HST (Shape 5) together along the long edge to make one HST unit. Press the seams toward the print. Make two identical HST units. Sew each HST unit to a dot print square (Shape 2) as shown to make the side units. Press the seams open. 3. Sew one side unit to each side of the dot print square (Shape 1) to make the center unit. Press the seams open. 4. Sew two QST units together to make the top unit. Sew a white square (Shape 2) to each end of the remaining QST unit as shown to make the bottom unit. Sew the top and bottom units to the center unit as shown. Press the seams open. Page 6 of 8
Assemble the Quilt Top 1. Referring to the quilt assembly diagram, arrange the pieced blocks in five vertical rows of five blocks each. Sew the blocks together. Press the seams in opposite directions on alternating rows. 2. Matching the block seams, sew the rows together. Press the seams in one direction. Page 7 of 8
Quilting and Finishing: 1. Layer quilt top with batting and backing. 2. Pin or baste layers together. 3. Quilt as desired. 4. Attach bias binding, mitering the corners. Page 8 of 8
