When finishing a project, you should always think ahead as to when you may want the project back and plan for the necessary finishing time. Our largest finisher has just sent out their deadlines and I would like to share them with you. There are other finishers with later deadlines but it is in your best interest to be conservative and get your projects in as soon as you can. The second half of the year is very busy for the finishers and they begin to get large amounts of finishing in the queue. Easter 2017 - January 27, 2017 Independence Day 2017 - April 1, 2017 Halloween 2017 - August 4, 2017 Thanksgiving/Chanukah 2017 - August 11, 2017 Christmas 2017 - August 18, 2017. Stitch-Bit for January Never fold your needlepoint canvas! Those fold marks may become permanent. We at Louise s suggest hanging your canvas on skirt/pant hangers or laying them flat in a dust free area. If short on storage, a canvas can be rolled around a tube and secured with paper clips, metal spring office clips or even a rubber band.
A Family Affair One of Louise s customers commissioned us to stitch Babe the Witch by Artists Collection. She had no set requirements other than to say that she had five buttons that her father had given her before he died that she would like incorporated onto the canvas. It wasn t an easy task. The buttons were rather large in scale to fit the piece. As the witch was being stitched, I positioned the buttons here and there, trying to find a good location. The grandkids, who typically pay no attention to my stitching, watched me fussing with these buttons and decided they would have some input. I would find each time I went to stitch, the buttons were located in different areas. I took note for when I did finally tack the buttons down. But their participation opened other windows. I now had three helper bees the daughter, the grandson, and the granddaughter. Each had very clever ideas and suggestions to dress up the witch. I had stitched the squiggles on the sleeves, assuming just that they were squiggles. The grandson walked by a few days later and told me that the snakes needed red eyes. So red eyes they got. I had stitch issues with the polka dots on the purse and their prominence. Finally, the daughter got tired of my indecision as to what to do and told me to put legs on the dots and make them spiders. That got rid of the polka dot issue! And I loved the idea! I was working on the hair and the granddaughter strongly suggested that I put a scrunchy in the witch s hair. She really likes the color purple; so a purple scrunchy it is! I added other embellishments here and there without too much comment from the helper bees. I had some old jewelry green beads and created multiple bangle bracelets and a dangling earring. I added cord shoe laces on top of stitched shoe laces for dimension. I even found a pretty engraved silver bead to serve as the purse latch. A pink ruffle made from Frosty Rays was a must to match her hot pink lips. Finally I was at the end of the project and back to fussing with the oversized buttons. The hubby looked over at me as he was sitting in his big black chair and said You are going to make a pumpkin patch with those buttons aren t you? Brilliant! Problem solved! Three of the buttons became a pumpkin patch with a bit of stitched greenery placed between them. The button witch fell into place atop the witch s hat and I am taking credit for that button location. But, I still had the darling ghost button to locate. I wanted to place her by the purple pumpkin and treat her as if she were a doll being held. But, she was too large for the space. So the ghost girl is packaged up and will be an adornment on the matting if the witch is framed or a stitched accent to the back of the piece if made into a stand up doll or box. So, dear customer, I hope that the witch with those special buttons bring fond memories of your Dad to mind. But, I want you to know that stitching the witch has created fond memories for me. What would we do without family?

Start As You Will Continue There is an old tradition in my family that whatever you are doing on New Year s Day will be what you will be doing throughout the year. In that spirit, here is a quick project that you can start and finish in just an hour or so! You only need a little bit of threads from your stash and a small piece of scrap canvas or linen. Since the design elements share holes, thinner threads or stranded threads will work well. Glue a magnet to the back or finish it with a bit of ribbon. Here s to starting, stitching and finishing projects all year long! Pepperberry Designs Easter Basket Club. It s not too late to begin the Pepperberry Easter Club. The Peeking Bunny is featured in January. As always the kit will include an exclusive stitch guide and threads to complete the canvas. A complete club consists of 10 canvases.
