Pedram Salimpour, MD, MPH, is CEO and co-founder of Champion Health Enterprises, a company focused on the creation of novel health ecosystems for Native American tribes and their business entities. He is also president and co-founder ofcarenex Health Services, a healthcare technology and client-services organization specializing in neonatal and perinatal disease management programs with presence in over forty percent of the neonatal intensive care units in the United States. Until 2011 Dr. Salimpour served as cofounder and president of Plymouth Health, a physician-owned company that owned and operated the 306-bed Alvarado Hospital in San Diego until 2011. Dr. Salimpour attended Boston University School of Medicine, where he graduated as an Alpha Omega Alpha national research scholar and was the first ever two-time recipient of the American College of Physicians' Research Award. He completed his residency at USC Medical Center / Keck School of Medicine and received his Masters of Public Health degree at the UCLA School of Public Health. From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Salimpour served as co-founder and executive vice president of NexCare Collaborative, a not-for-profit organization that served the healthcare needs of more than 100,000 underserved children and families in Southern California. NexCare Collaborative developed an interactive communications program that linked families to more than 17,000 service agencies throughout Los Angeles County, and helped enroll almost 20,000 in health insurance programs. Its collaborators included the National Institutes of Health and NBC Television. Dr. Salimpour has co-authored major grant awards from the National Institutes of Health/National Library of Medicine and the UniHealth Foundation. Currently, Dr. Salimpour serves as President-elect of the Los Angeles County Medical Association, is a member of the boards of directors of Boston University School of Medicine and the UCLA School of Public Health HSAA and is a Founding Board Member of the School of Medicine at the University of California, Riverside. Dr. Salimpour serves as an adjunct Professor of Health and Human Services at the Center on Human Aging at San Diego State University and is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine. In order to complete the process as quickly as possible, there are several steps that must be taken, many of which req uire a trip downtown. To begin the appointment process, please review, sign and return the enclosed City Commissioner Ethics Pledge, Commission Remuneration Form, Undated Separation Form and Background Release within one week of receiving this letter. These documents are necessary to help us ensure the most efficient, open and accountable. City government possible. Further, Mayor's Office policy requires you to be fingerprinted as part of the background check that is done on all potential Commissioners. You will be hearing from a City Council committee clerk who will let you know when your appointment will be considered by the Budget and Finance Committee. Some time thereafter, you will also be notified by the committee clerk when your appointment will be presented to the full City Council for confirmation. Once you are confirmed, you will be required to take the oath of office in the City Clerk's Office, Room 395, City Hall. Deputy Mayor Monique Earl's staff will be responsible to assist you during the confirmation process if you have questions. Commissioners must be residents of the City of Los Angeles.
