FEATURED TOPICS & SPEAKERS OPENING NEW MARKETS JOSEPH SHRAWDER, GENERAL ELECTRIC Half of the world prohibits the sale of used equipment. It s the half that could most benefit from used medical equipment. Why are certain markets closed to used equipment? Is it possible to open new markets? Joe Shrawder is the CEO and President of GE Healthcare Latin America. Mr. Shrawder joined GE in 1986. He has served as CEO and President of Surgery at GE Healthcare Ltd from July 2010. In that role, he led GE Healthcare s C-arm business, and was responsible for overseeing the development, manufacturing and global distribution of GE s surgery products. His previous roles in GE Healthcare include; General Manager of Healthcare Systems Services, General Manager of Global Value Products, General Manager of GoldSeal refurbished products and accessories and Global Services Quality Leader. He began his career in GE Aerospace on the Manufacturing Management program in Syracuse, NY and Philadelphia. He subsequently spent 13 years in GE Quartz, the world s leading supplier of fused silica products to the semiconductor, lighting, and optical fiber industries. He joined GE Quartz as Shop Operations Manager in Newark, Ohio before progressing through roles in global technology transfer, applications engineering, product management and business development in Cleveland. Prior to joining GE Healthcare, he spent seven years in Tokyo, Japan and Hamburg, Germany, as General Manager of Asia Pacific Operations and Managing Director of GE Quartz Europe respectively. Mr. Shrawder has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Moore School of Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Wharton. THIRD PARTY SERVICE IN EUROPE BENJAMIN PELTIER, JD, MESA Mr. Peltier will discuss the current situation in Europe with regard to 3rd party service obstacles and realities. The presentation will be followed by an interactive discussion. Benjamin Peltier is the Director of Marketing and Communications for Medical Equipment Solutions and Applications (MESA) located in Lugano, Switzerland., Mr. Peltier is responsible for the company s marketing strategy as well as all internal and external communications. Mr. Peltier has worked for over 15 years in various analyst roles for policy and public relations in organizations such as the United States Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management and the International Council on Human Rights Policy. Educated in public interest law and international nuclear regulation, he obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the William S. Boyd School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Arizona.
FEATURED TOPICS & SPEAKERS CONTINUED FROM IMAGING TO INTRA-OPERATIVE IMAGING TO THERAPY UNDER IMAGING CONTROL MICHAEL FRIEBE, PH.D., TUM, IDTM Michael Friebe, Ph.D. received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) from the DHBW University Stuttgart in Germany, and a PhD in medical physics from the University of Witten in Germany. He also holds a Masters degree in Technology Management from Golden Gate University, San Francisco. After spending 5 years in the US as R&D engineer and product manager for a medical imaging company he returned to his homeland Germany in 1993 and founded Neuromed which operated mobile MRI, CT and PET systems in Central Europe and; was one of the largest preowned equipment providers in Europe. The company was acquired in September 2008 by ALLIANCE Medical Ltd., Warwick, UK. In April 2009 Dr. Friebe assumed the role as Managing Director / CEO of ALLIANCE Medical Northern and Central Europe. For several years he has been a partner of an early stage investment fund for medical technology companies (FVW Investments) which currently has five portfolio companies. He left TOMOVATION and ALLIANCE in April 2011 to become more engaged in high-tech diagnostic imaging companies and; to be part of the development of intraoperative and interventional image guided therapies. For that he started id+tm, a small consulting and investment company dedicated to all aspects of these technologies. Dr. Friebe holds more than 25 diagnostic imaging and image guided therapy patents and is contributor to 60 scientific papers, as well as an adjunct professor for medical imaging entrepreneurship at the TU Munich, Germany. He previously was a board member of several US publicly traded companies and currently serves on the board of Surgiceye GmbH, Munich. In 2011 he was elected Germany s BUSINESS ANGEL of the year 2011 for his involvement in several start-up companies.

BERLIN TOURS TUESDAY 9 SEPTEMBER SCENIC WALK AND BOAT RIDE ON THE SPREE Take a boat trip on the Spree River. It s the very best way to see the most interesting architecture in Berlin. At right is the Berlin Cathedral located at the Northern tip of Museum Island. The island is a magnificent work of art itself, involving five world-renowned museums gathered in an extraordinary ensemble. Since 1999, the museum complex in the city centre of Berlin has been the only architectural and cultural ensemble that is considered part of UNESCO world heritage. Also included on Tuesday is a guided walking tour of Berlin. Tours include all entrance fees, private guides, no lines, transportation, and a great lunch. WEDNESDAY 10 SEPTEMBER MUSEUM ISLAND A private tour of the Pergamon Museum and the Neue Museum. The Pergamon is Berlin s most visited museum. It has an incredible collection of exquisite classical treasures such as the striking reconstructions of archaeological buildings. The impressive building - one of five on Berlin s Museum Island - houses no fewer than three museums: the Collection of Classical Antiquities occupying the architectural halls and sculpture wing, the Middle Eastern Museum and the Museum of Islamic Art. At left is the Pergamon Altar of Zeus. The Neue (New) Museum was completely destroyed during the war, and laid in ruins until 1999. Only then did the reconstruction work begin, which ended up lasting for ten years. Since reopening in 2009, the Egyptian Museum and the Museum of Prehistory and Early History have once again found a place to display their treasures in the museum.
