VP s Corner by Jack Lynch Theme Contests 2019 Welcome to 2019! The December meeting was the annual DVSM Christmas party and we all had a great time sharing some fellowship as well as some great food and drinks. We would like to thank everybody for bringing along all the delicious goodies! The Pearl Harbor theme was very well populated with a lot of great entries. John Loftus came away with the most popular award for his P-36 Hawk. Well done! This is the time of year when we all make resolutions to be better and improve ourselves during the new year. There are lots of Model Builder resolutions such as Finishing all those half-built models on the top shelf Leaning new building and painting techniques Cutting down on how many kits are finding their way into the collection And many more... next meeting January 4 Theme Contest The Vietnam War Era While you are finishing some of those orphans that have been languishing unfinished on your workbench why not keep a journal of the build with some photos and write it up for the newsletter? Let s see who can win the award for best newsletter article this year! At the November meeting we had an awesome building session and we consequently decided to continue setting up building tables at every meeting so make sure to bring along something to work on. We can all share ideas and techniques as well as good conversation. We plan on starting at around 6:30 so make sure to come early so that you have plenty of build time! And speaking of working together don t forget to spread the word about this great hobby. The next time you are at the hobby shop and run into someone there who likes plastic models tell them about the club and invite them to attend a meeting. The more the merrier! Until next time - keep modeling! Jack Lynch VP January The Vietnam War Era Model of a subject from the period of the overt U.S. action during the war, i.e., August 1964 April 1975. February It s Cold in Here Any build with a winter theme. March The Sixties Model in any category (auto, aircraft, armor, ship, etc.) of a subject born in the years 1960-69. April Classic Plastic Model kit in any category (auto, aircraft, armor, ship, etc.) that was issued before 1980. May D-Day In honor of the 75th anniversary of the event, model must somehow be related to the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944. z June No theme. Gold/Silver/Bronze judging. July 50 Shades of Grey Model of any subject in any category that is/was mostly grey, either in overall color or camouflage. August The Axis Model of a subject in any category from, and/or employed by, the Axis nations in WWII. September That s a New Kit! A build of anything from a kit that was released no earlier than 2014. October Big Builds Any kit in the large end of its category s scale spectrum. November No Big Six Model in any category (auto, aircraft, armor, etc.) but one that cannot be of US, British, German, Japanese, Russian or French origin.
