Participation of LAC countries in FP7 - All areas of FP7 open for participation for the LAC countries. - All LAC countries are 'International Cooperation Partner Country' (ICPC) and can receive EU funding. - Consortia must have the minimum required number of EU Member States/Associated Countries participants (please refer to eligible criteria in the full text of the call, through the following link: http://eurex.europa.eu/lexuriserv/lexuriserv.d o?uri=oj:c:2012:202:0006:0008:en:pdf)

The FP7 "Cooperation" Specific Programme

Two major calls published on 10 July 2012 Research priorities: Health Emphasis will be on innovative health research. Areas most covered are: brain research, antimicrobial drug resistance and comparative effectiveness research Other areas covered: developing personalised medicines approaches, cardiovascular research, safety and efficacy of therapies, cancer and public health research Strong emphasis on SMEs and industry participation

Health Interest for LAC All topics of the main call FP7-HEALTH-2013-INNOVATION-1 are open for LAC participation Topics of particular interest may include: HEALTH.2013.1.3-3: Safety and efficacy of therapeutic vaccines. HEALTH.2013.2.3.0-1: Innovation in vaccines HEALTH.2013.2.3.1-2: Stratified approaches for pathogen-host interactions HEALTH.2013.2.3.1-3: Contribution to global mapping of drug resistance and identification of pathogens of major importance for public health. HEALTH.2013.2.3.3-1: Clinical management of patients in severe epidemics Health.2013.2.3.4-2: Drug development for parasitic diseases FP7-HEALTH.2013.4.1-5: Global initiative on gene-environment interactions in diabetes/obesity in specific populations

FAB Interest for LAC All topics open for LAC participation Topics of particular interest may include: KBBE.2013.1.3-01: Emerging viral vector borne diseases KBBE.2013.2.5-01: Assessment of the impact of global drivers of change on Europe's food security KBBE.2013.2.3-02: Network for the transfer of knowledge on traditional foods to SMEs KBBE.2013.2.4-01: Assuring quality and authenticity in the food chain KBBE.2013.2.5-02: Saving water and energy for resource-efficient food processing KBBE.2013.3.1-01: Plant High Value Products - from discovery to final product KBBE.2013.3.1-02: «Partnering Initiative on Biodiversity in Agriculture» targeting Latin America

The «Partnering Initiative on Biodiversity in Agriculture» is targeting Latin America (KBBE.2013.3.1-02) Funding scheme: Coordination and Support Action (coordinating action) Additional eligibility criteria: The requested European Union contribution shall not exceed EUR 1 000 000 per proposal. Minimum number of participants: 3 from different Member States or Associated countries and 3 from different ICPC from Latin America. Additional information: one project may be funded. Participants from Latin American countries in a Science and Technology agreement with the European Union will support their participants to the project. Participants from other Latin American ICPC countries could be funded by the EU.

Cross thematic Call "Oceans of Tomorrow" Topics of interest to LAC: OCEAN.2013-1: Biosensors for real time monitoring of biohazard and man made chemical contaminants in the marine environment OCEAN.2013-2: Innovative multifunctional sensors for in-situ monitoring of marine environment and related maritime activities OCEAN.2013-3: Innovative antifouling materials for maritime applications OCEAN.2013-4: Innovative transport and deployment systems for the offshore wind energy sector

Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Two ICT Calls published on 10 July 2012 Three Cross-thematic calls on Factories for the future, Efficient Buildings and Green cars 10 July 2012 FET call - still open for proposals Focus around number of key challenges: pervasive and trusted network and service infrastructures cognitive systems and robotics alternative paths to components and systems technologies for digital content and languages Support also for Future and Emerging Technologies (FET)

All topics open for LAC participation ICT Interest for LAC Topics of particular interest may include: Objective ICT-2013.10.3 International partnership building and support to dialogues Horizontal International Cooperation Actions. The target is to support dialogues between the European Commission/the EU and strategic partner countries and regions, and to foster cooperation with strategic third country organisations in collaborative ICT R&D both within the EU's Framework Programmes (FP7, Horizon 2020) and under relevant third country programmes

ICT Interest for LAC A second coordinated call or proposlas with Brazil is planned.

NANOSCIENCES, NANOTECHNOLOGIES, MATERIALS & NEW PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES (NMP) - Four calls published on 10 July 2012 - European energy-efficient buildings - Focus on smart and sustainable growth, for a greener industry. The challenges addressed include: Energy and energy efficiency Environmental issues and sustainability Raw materials Health and safety Factories of the future European energy-efficient buildings Green cars.

NMP Interest for LAC All topics open for LAC participation Other topics in areas of mutual interest: two topics in the Factories of the Future PPP (FoF.NMP.2013-3 and FoF.NMP.2013-9) are particularly suitable for collaboration at international level, particularly under the IMS (Intelligent Manufacturing Systems) scheme. NMP.2013.4.0-5 Deployment of societally beneficial nano- and/or materials technologies in ICP countries

Energy One call published on 10 July 2012 Focus on the implementation plans and road maps of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) Aim to accelerate research, development andmarket take up of most promising technologies in: Smart Cities and Communities Renewable Energy Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS); Smart Grids and Energy storages

Energy Interest for LAC Under renewable energy, the focus is solar, wind and bioenergy All 3 are in the EU-LAC energy roadmap, therefore possibly interesting for LAC

One call published on 10 July 2012 Focus on : Environment addressing major societal challenges developing and strengthening European leadership in environmental innovation; and promoting and facilitating knowledge transfer, assessment, uptake and exploitation of research and Innovation data and results in policy, industry and society

Five calls published on 10 July 2012 Aeronautics and Air Transport (four calls) Sustainable Surface Transport (one call) Transport Strategic research and innovation priorities for 2013: Aeronautics and Air Transport Sustainable surface transport (including the European green cars initiative ) Horizontal activities "Galileo" (Europe's initiative for a state-of-the-art global satellite navigation system)

Transport Interest for LAC All topics open for LAC participation Themes of particular interest may include (depending upon the country): Road Safety and Security Intermodal freight transport, e-logistics Bio fuels for transport Airports, navigation

Transport Interest for LAC In particular LAC countries are targeted in 2 topics: a coordination action in Aeronautics (AAT) in the field of sustainable alternative fuels for Aviation, where cooperation with Brazil (and the USA) is specifically mentioned; a coordination action in Surface transport (SST) in the field of green urban transport encouraging cooperation between European cities and cities accross the world, where LAC countries are specifically mentioned (together with China and Singapore).

Research Infrastructures One call published on 10 July 2012 Main lines of action: Focus on the support of the next phase of development of research and education networks in Europe (GÉANT), one of the main pillars of the online European Research Area

Research Infrastructures Interest for LAC All topics open for LAC participation The international dimension of GÉANT will be encouraged, in particular by: ensuring global connectivity and interoperability, developing an open, virtualised and multi-domain tested facility and expanding it globally.
