Itty Bitty Baskets Solid fabrics in an analogous color scheme give a pretty punch of color to this small Amish-inspired quilt. Make the Basket Blocks Use a 1/4" seam allowances and sew with right sides together. Press the seams open. 1. Sew a gray large half-square triangle to a purple large half-square triangle along the long, diagonal edges; press. Repeat to sew a gray large halfsquare triangle to each of the remaining purple, dark blue violet, red violet, and dark magenta to make a total of 18 large half-square-triangle units. (Figure 1) 2. Repeat Step 1 using to make a total of 18 small half-square-triangle units. (Figure 2) 3. Arrange two gray large squares, two gray small squares, one purple small square, two purple large half-square-triangle units, two purple small halfsquare-triangle units, and two purple rectangles in three horizontal rows as shown. Sew the pieces in each row together; press. Join the rows; press. Repeat to make a total of nine Basket blocks. (Figure 3) 1 2 Large Half-Square-Triangle Unit Make 18 total. Small Half-Square-Triangle Unit Make 18 total. Piece the Border Strips 4. To make the side border strips, refer to the quilt assembly diagram at right to lay out six gray large squares and three gray rectangles in one row. Sew the squares and rectangles together along adjacent edges; press. Repeat to make a total of two side border strips. 5. To make the top border strip, lay out eight gray large squares and three gray rectangles in one row. Sew the squares and rectangles together along adjacent edges; press. Repeat to make the bottom border strip. Assemble the Quilt Top 6. Refer to the quilt assembly diagram at right to lay out the blocks in three horizontal rows of three blocks each, placing two purple blocks in each row. Sew the blocks in each row together; press. Join the rows to complete the quilt center; press. 7. Referring to the quilt assembly diagram and matching seamlines, join the side borders to the sides of the quilt center; press. Join the top and bottom borders to the top and bottom edges of the quilt center; press. 3 Make 9 total. Finish the Quilt 8. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top. Baste the layers together. 9.
