HOUSATONIC CAMERA CLUB NEWSLETTER Issue #4 3 UPCOMING EVENTS "Smithfield Show" ~ DECEMBER 2014 ~ The opening reception for this year's Smithfield show is December 6th following The Annual Christmas Concert and Tea which is always very well attended. They will provide wine, and food. The concert time is 4PM with reception to follow immediately. The show will then be open on December 7th, 13th and 14th from 12PM - 4 PM. Drop off will be Sunday November 29 approx. 10-1 PM, Monday, November 30 approx. 2-4 PM and Thursday, December 4 at 4 PM sharp. Anything received after 4 PM cannot be included as we will be hanging the show at that time. Ann will be forwarding information for our volunteers. "Holiday dinner in the Cobble" This year's holiday dinner is in the Cobble building on December 9th. Social hour will be from 5:00-6:00pm; dinner will be from 6:00-7:00 pm and the regularly scheduled meeting will follow where we can present our member showcase -- subject for this year's showcase is "Flowers". Reservations must be in by December 2nd so please let Judy Becker (judybecker40@att.net) know if you plan on attending. This year's cost is $20 per person. "Print Competition" - January 20th ~ JANUARY 2015 ~ At our regularly scheduled meeting in January, we will have a print competition. Each club member can bring ONE print due to space limitations. Competition Rules: 1. Any size print or mount up to 16 x 20 is acceptable. 2. Members may submit ONE image. 3. Prints must be mounted or matted -- prints not properly mounted or matted will be disqualified. 4. Prints must have a title visible from the front. The title, together with the maker s name must appear on the back of the mount. Maker's name should not appear on the front of the print. 5. Subject can be anything!! Please bring ORIGINAL work. 6. Club members will serve as judges. Pictures will be scored on a scale of 1 to 10. The technical quality of the image The quality of the print Is the image well composed and presented? Does it give a good first impression? "Salon Show at Noble Horizons" Opening will be Friday, Jan 16th, 2015. Drop off is the weekend before. The show is open to any and all new work... nothing that has been there before can go there again. All prints should be framed, under glass, and smooth wired across the back. There is some flexibility here, but any deviation should be cleared with Ann or Bill. They will clear it with the show's curator who has the last word on what goes on the walls. Very specific guidelines were emailed previously. John Emmons, who is the curator for Noble Horizons, developed guidelines for shows at Noble Horizons. The Salon Committee has reviewed them and these are the guidelines we will continue to use for all of our shows.

HOUSATONIC CAMERA CLUB NEWSLETTER Issue #4 4 Teatown Eaglefest 2015by Dawn Dingee The Teatown Eaglefest is Saturday, February 7th. My sister and I have attended the last two years and haven't been disappointed. Viewing along the Hudson is free -- there are eagle experts with spotting scopes at many of the stops. Numerous viewing sites all along the Hudson River Featuring the Metro North Eagle Train (9:51am from Grand Central Terminal) Bus Tours to viewing sites Children s activities & storytelling 30 participating environmental organizations http://www.teatown.org/teatownevents/eaglefest.html Don't forget your binoculars. You can often see the eagles with the naked eye but binoculars are recommended. Consider going - it is a lot of fun!! ALICE IN CENTRAL PARK -- STATUES IN WONDERLAND by G. A. Mudge The publication date was October 20, 2014. The book is unique, high quality and attractively priced. HOUSATONIC CAMERA CLUB NEWSLETTER Issue #4 6 * * * ANNOUNCEMENTS * * * LOGO Competition The logo competition continues...the club selected a business card / logo at our last club meeting but we will continue to accept submissions for logos and business cards and conduct another round of voting due to the low voting participation on the last round. In the meantime, we had business cards printed with the "winning" logo for our Smithfield and Noble shows. The "temporary" business card is below: Message to New Members Member profiles are a good way to share information about yourself and your love of photography. If you do not have a current profile on file, please submit one to Bill DeVoti (abundancehill@verizon.net) -- I know he has reached out to several of you with a "template" to be used to assist you. Also, don't forget to submit some photos to be used in the newsletter along with your profile. Please include PSA or NECCC in the subject line along with the category (Pictorial or Nature). Make sure you size your files to no larger than 1024 pixels wide x 768 pixels tall. Vertical images must be no taller than 768 pixels. Don't forget your name in the filename!! Files should also be saved as jpeg's and be no larger than 350k.
