2017 Kitchen and Bath Design Planner

How to Measure Your Kitchen or Bath for New Cabinets Measuring your space is a critical step in determining your room layout. Having accurate measurements of your kitchen or bath layout are extremely important in designing your new cabinets. Carolina Cabinet Warehouse has developed a Kitchen and Bath Design Planner for our customers that includes clear and easy step-by-step instructions on how to properly measure your room so that your custom cabinet order will install successfully. We urge you to double-check and even triple-check your measurements prior to placing your order. Every order is custom with specialty items made just for you. Please make sure your cabinets will fit your space before you order them. Once completed, your layout information and digital pictures of your space should be given to your Carolina Cabinet Warehouse Product Specialist for review. Once this is completed, you will receive a quote for your products from one of our Customer Care Specialists. Supplies Needed to Measure Tape Measure Grid / Graph Paper for Layout Drawing (Included in our Kitchen and Bath Design Planner) Pad of Paper (Helpful for Taking Notes) Digital Camera or Camera Phone Pencil / Pen / Highlighter in at least Three Different Colors Drawing Your Floor Plan You will need to carefully measure and document the exact dimensions of your room and any of the items below that are located in your particular space. Your completed floor plan should resemble the diagram shown below*. Be sure to show the exact locations of the following on your layout. For your convenience, we have also included Grid / Graph Paper in this Planner to help with drawing your layout. Doors Windows Hood Vents Range Hookups Ventilation Wall Pipes Exhaust Gas Lines Water Lines Appliances Ductwork Benches Drain Lines Electrical Outlets Light Switches Furniture Phone Jacks Sink / Toilet Light Fixtures Heat/Air Vents Under Counter Lighting Wiring Cable Jacks Tub / Shower *NOTE: The dimensions shown in this diagram depict a typical layout scenario and are for reference use only. Your kitchen or bathroom may vary greatly from what is shown here. Please contact one of our Product Specialists with any questions you might have concerning your kitchen or bath layout drawings.

Important Tips to Getting Your Layout Exactly Right Always be sure that your tape measure is pulled tight as you take your measurements. Use tape on your floors to outline your project layout and make sure that the products you order will fit properly. Make note of any crown molding or soffits that may intersect with cabinetry going to ceiling. Measure and note the location of obstacles along each wall, recording their height, width and depth from outside edge to outside edge (Includes doors, windows, pipes, electrical outlets, etc.) Identify existing plumbing, electrical, ductwork, ventilation and lighting centerlines on all ceilings and walls. List their dimensions to avoid any obstruction with taller items like pantry cabinets, refrigerators or crown moldings. You should also document any changes that will be made to the plumbing and electrical as a part of the installation so they can be taken into consideration during the design process. It is important to make sure the lighting you already have or will be installation will not be in the way of your new cabinetry. Check corner squareness at the floor, base, and wall cabinet levels to determine if you ll have any issues during installation. To check for corner squareness : o Mark a point 4 feet out from the corner of one wall. o Mark a point 3 feet out from the corner of the adjacent wall. o Measure the distance between the two marked points. If the distance is 5 feet then the corner is square. If your walls are not perfectly square, don t worry, you and/or an installer will be able to work around any issues by using shims between the cabinets and the walls. Have an electrician check your electrical service panel conditions to ensure it can handle any change of appliances you may be making in the kitchen as well as safety features such as ground fault circuit protections. If any attic or basement walls will be affected by the installation, make sure any plumbing, electrical or venting changes are verified by a professional. Again Double-Check and Triple-Check your measurements prior to placing your order. This cannot be emphasized enough. Please make sure your cabinets fit your space. Appliance and Fixture Information Using the table below, list any existing or desired appliances and fixtures that will be included in your drawing. Be sure to indicate 220 volt outlets, wall-mounted appliances and fixtures, telephone and cable locations. Also note gas lines, appliance locations and model numbers.

Let s Start MEASURING! Use the drawing below to assist with getting the proper measurements for your room.** Measuring Your Room - Horizontal Measurement Measure from wall to wall at 36 height. (#1) Measure from corner to window or door opening. (#2) Measure across opening from trim edge or molding edge. (#3) Measure from edge of trim to far wall. (#4). Compare the Sum of (#2), (#3), and (#4) measurements to Step (#1). Make sure the measurements are within 1/16 of each other. If not, then re-measure. Mark exact location of water, drain, gas lines and electrical outlets and switches on drawing. (#5) Measure from wall to wall above window (#6) and compare to (#1). Make sure the measurements are within 1/16 of each other. If not, then re-measure. Measuring Your Room - Vertical Measurement Measure from floor to window sill. (#7) Measure from window sill to top of window. (#8) Measure from top of window to ceiling. (#9) Measure from floor to ceiling (#10) and compare to sum of (#7), (#8), and (#9). Make sure the measurements are within 1/16 of each other. If not, then re-measure. **NOTE: The dimensions shown in the diagram above depict a typical layout scenario and are for reference use only. Your kitchen or bathroom may vary greatly from what is shown here. Please contact one of our Product Specialists with any questions you might have concerning your kitchen or bath layout drawings.
