And help you achieve world-class innovativeness, quality and cost-efficiency. 2
Helping you make the right choices in a tough environment Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, strong, hygienic and environmentally friendly, i.e. infinitely recyclable, which makes it ideal for a whole range of oil & gas industry applications. This applies equally to flowlines and umbilicals, firewalls and living quarters, process piping and storage tanks, as well as a host of other uses. Each application is unique, and as a result we invest time and effort to help you choose your grade with care. Not just the optimal grade, but also timely delivery We have recognised the need to be close to our customers to ensure that the process of purchasing stainless steel is as simple as possible. We meet this need through a responsive supply chain and the provision of e-tools and advice to speed up the selection and ordering process, as well as through our service centres located in the main markets. The result is timely delivery. 3
When making big investments, it s good to rely on experience Thanks to our comprehensive sales and service centre network, we can provide you with timely local support where and when you need it. This includes assessing your needs, providing professional help with quality and production planning, as well as logistics advice for optimal products, cost-efficient operations, and well-planned deliveries. Materials testing on your site To further help you achieve competitive advantage, we can offer our customers the possibility of testing candidate materials on their own premises. This work is supported by extensive testing in our state-of-the art laboratory. The tests are performed in either standard environments or in environments specially made for, or provided by our customers in order to find the best suitable stainless solution. E-tools for stock product selection and more In order to further streamline the ordering process, we are constantly developing easy-to-use online tools for your benefit. The tools allow you to search and select from our wide range of products, learn about their material properties, and also send us any questions and enquiries that you may have. The tools, of course, are available 24/7. 4
Real services to make your life easier We are just around the corner Outokumpu is one of the largest producers of stainless steel and is widely recognised as a world leader in technical support, research and development. We serve our customers from our main production facilities, supported by operations in some 30 countries around the world. Wherever in the world you may be, we are just around the corner. 5
New grades open up a world of opportunities We have an excellent track record in developing materials for demanding process applications for the oil & gas and other industries. A fresh example of this is LDX 2101, a low-nickel high-strength stainless steel with potential to substitute carbon steel, supermartensitic grades and austenitic grades in a number of applications. Our duplex grades are increasingly capturing market share in a range of applications. Combating corrosion, cutting costs Stainless steel is increasingly the material of choice for oil & gas as it is best suited to combat corrosion arising from factors such as oxygen, chlorides, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide. When choosing from among our special grades, and opting away from carbon steel, you not only benefit from these general advantages, but also save money through lower maintenance costs, weight savings and a longer service life. The current situation may be fine, but it s better to focus 6
Minimum environmental impact, maximum health and safety Even though stainless offers low or non-existent emissions of metal ions into the environment and requires little maintenance throughout its lifetime, we recognise that no product is without environmental impact. Because of this, we help our customers to choose the right materials, while also actively improving the environmental performance of our own operations. Placing an order with us means that the whole chain from material production to final installation will generate a minimum of environmental impact, with maximum attention to health and safety. Support from Outokumpu R&D Our Avesta Research Centre concentrates on product and applications development, whereas our Tornio Research Centre focuses on process development and improving the quality of production processes. Together, the centres help us not only to develop ever better steel grades, but also to manufacture them cost-efficiently, while taking into account environmental demands. Outokumpu s offering in a nutshell Outokumpu s main products are cold and hot rolled stainless steel coil, sheet and plate, available in a number of grades. We also make billet, wire rod and bar, as well as welded pipes, tubes and fittings that have excelled in countless oil & gas applications. We can also offer tailor made solutions to our customers and our products are used in oil & gas, pulp & paper, water treatment, chemical and pharmaceutical, as well as in transportation, household, and building and construction applications. We also produce specialty stainless products, e.g. for the electronics and IT industries. In addition, we have the most up-to-date downstream processing centres in all the main markets. on future flows 7
A source of ideas for competitive advantage Each process stage sets its own special demands on the materials and therefore it is important that they are chosen with care. Here we provide some guidance as to which grades are recommended for key oil & gas industry applications. For more specific information, we invite you to get in touch with an Outokumpu sales representative near you. H For subsea processes For topside construction Combatting corrosion in flowlines CO 2, chlorides, H 2 S, the formation of water condensate, as well as high flowrates and temperatures require the toughest materials, e.g. LDX 2101 or 2205. Welded tubes for umbilicals Welded stainless steel tubes have replaced seamless stainless tubes in recent years with LDX 2101, 2304, 2205, SAF 2507 offering good choices. Ease of welding and top durability for wellhead equipment and Xmas trees As H 2 S rises, risk of SSC or hydrogen embrittlement may require LDX 2101 or 2205, which are also formable and easy to weld. Also possible are SAF 2507, 254 SMO, 1.4565 and 1.4529. Superior strength and minimum maintenance for blast, firewalls and living quarters 1.4404/316L and 2304 offer the necessary properties, while 2205 is recommended for areas requiring even greater corrosion resistance. True safety and cost-efficiency for cable trays, stairs, tread plates and walkways Although 1.4404/316L has become the benchmark, LDX 2101 and 2304 combine high mechanical strength and excellent corrosion resistance to form a far more economical choice. 8
Distillation Tower Gas Storage Crude Distillation Tower Petroleum Storage Boiler Boiler For piping and related applications Extreme performance for main process piping Extreme conditions require extreme measures, for which 2205, SAF 2507 and 254 SMO are perfect. Enhanced corrosion resistance for oil and gas coolers As many of the tube heat exchangers in oil & gas coolers use seawater as a coolant, the enhanced corrosion resistance provided by 254 SMO or SAF 2507 are ideal. Extra corrosion resistance for manifolds The fluids in manifolds are just as corrosive as in main process piping. When pressures are high, 2205 and SAF 2507 are perfect choices. Higher temperatures and better corrosion resistance for seawater piping 254 SMO and 1.4529 have been highly successful in systems operating at up to 30 C. Combined with 1.4565 for flanges or other parts prone to crevice corrosion, service temperatures can be increased. 9
