OKLAHOMA MACHINE QUILTERS ASSOCIATION THE MACHINE QUILTER VOLUME 17 ISSUE 2 WINTER 2017 JANUARY 2017 MTG EXECUTIVE BOARD President: Sandy Gard Vice Pres: Brenda Esslinger Secretary: Diane Cerny Treasurer: Lea Alspaugh COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN Website: Alan Hawkins Activities: OPEN Membership: Brenda Williams Publicity: OPEN Programs: Rena Powers Newsletter: Nancy Griffin Librarian: Linda Eiseman FROM YOUR PRESIDENT SANDY GARD Hey Quilters, What a wonderful time we had this month at the Dusty/ Stephanie event and then the very next week our sit and sew for Positive Tomorrows. We got a lot accomplished for Positive Tomorrows and we will continue another sit and sew in April. Since there are so many new children being added to the number of children needing quilts it will be good to sew another Saturday to be sure there will be enough quilts. We will also take up a collection to help with the cost of batting for Joyce. The quilts that you took home to quilt will be due back for Joyce at our April meeting. I am so glad to announce that our new meeting place will now be at The Quilted Hart. This is such a great venue with so much to offer our group. Also we will start our meeting at 10 am. This allows me to go home and mow on Saturdays. LOL. I think we all hate a meeting that hits right in the middle of the afternoon and the people that drive, this gives them ample time to get here. Since the winter quilt show was canceled, and MQS is no more, it seems that The Quilted Hart is now going to take up the gauntlet and provide a venue for these teachers to still teach. The Quilted Hart will be having several events this year and next. We are looking at Kris Vierra, Linda Taylor, Jamie Wallan, Sue Patten, Karen Mctavish and more. Our group will be given $10.00 off on each session and we will be offered first seats so stay tuned to our facebook and yahoo group. You can always call me if you need any information. Our group added I think 7 new members this month and we are still growing. This is wonderful to see new members some members renewing memberships. Spring is on its way so I will see you guys April 15 at our next meeting. Piece Out, Sandy REMINDERS Next Meeting: Saturday, April 15, 2017

2 P a g e T H E M A C H I N E Q U I L T E R J a n u a r y 2 0 1 6 I know it seems early, but we will elect new officers soon. The new board will take over in Oct., which is the beginning of our new year. Except for the Webmaster, these are voluntary/non-paid positions. Please consider serving. I would also like to comment on how great a job Alan Hawkins does in keeping the Website updated. He has been great to work with in getting the newsletter out. Thanks, Alan! Nancy PROGRAMS CHAIRMAN We do not currently have a program chairman. Please consider this position for the next term. Meantime, we will be having another Sit & Sew at the April meeting. MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEETING Secretary Diane Cerny Diane was not able to make the Jan. meeting. Michelle Lynch was kind enough to do the minutes this time. Thanks, Michelle. OKMQG Minutes of January 28, 2017 January 2017 Meeting notes Meeting was called to order at 1:25 pm. Membership report : we have 44 paid members, 4 new from Dusty Farrell Workshop. Current membership lists were given to all present, both guild only and public lists.

3 P a g e T H E M A C H I N E Q U I L T E R J a n u a r y 2 0 1 6 Brenda Esslinger: Same But Different 2017 kits are available. COQG would like to hang these in the July show so get them finished and returned at April meeting or contact Brenda to arrange another time prior to the show. Last year's SBD Quilts will be returned at the April meeting. Those not claimed will be donated to the V.A. Activity/challenge for the next meeting. Quilt the same block design twice and embellish one with background fills. Small Groups: Blanchard small group is doing challenge quilts using a Kaffe Fassett fabric available at Beth's. The challenge is to use some of the fabric and make a project that uses some of the background fills we learned last year in our class with Al Coster. Art and Stitch group continues to meet. Old Business: Should we change our meeting place? Discussion took place and a motion was made to begin meeting at The Quilted Hart. Vote was taken and passed. Meetings will regularly take place the 3rd Saturday of January, April, July and October at the Quilted Hart. Due to Easter this year's April meeting will be on April 22, the fourth Saturday. ****Janet s calendar was already filled for April 22. The meeting will be April 15. New business: Meeting Time Change: there was discussion and motion was made and seconded to change meeting time to 10:00 a.m. Vote was take and the motion was approved. Library: With our new location we will be able to leave the library materials in a locked cabinet at the Quilted Hart. A motion was made, seconded and approved that funds be made available for Al Coster to purchase a cabinet and locks. Policy changes for library were discussed. The deposit amount for library items will now be $50. If the item is not returned at the next meeting or other arrangements made with the librarian checks will be cashed/cash will be deposited. With the library cabinet being at The Quilted Hart, library materials will be able to be dropped off at the store. Door prizes were given out There is a possibility of Linda Taylor doing a workshop at The Quilted Hart in April. Next meeting date will be April 15, at 10:00am.

4 P a g e T H E M A C H I N E Q U I L T E R J a n u a r y 2 0 1 6 Activities VICE PRESIDENT: Brenda Esslinger Vice President's Report & Same But Different 2017 The activity for April is to add fill to one of your favorite block designs. First stitch it out as you normally would, then stitch it again adding any textures you like to help highlight the design. You can even use contrasting threads if you like! Vice President In January we started working on our new Same But Different project. If you haven't yet obtained a kit and want one, please contact me at blee0115@aol.com and I will get one to you. The cost is $20 plus $5 shipping if you need me to mail it to you. Our first showing will be at the COQG show July 14-15. I am hoping to collect most of the finished quilts at the April meeting, but you can deliver them to me no later than July 9 to be included. We will also be displaying our vintage pieces at the COQG show. As with the SBD, I would like to collect them at the April meeting, but will take them as late as July 9. It's not too late to make one! It is now time to retire the current SBD project. Quilts will be available for you to pick up at the April meeting. If you do not want your quilt it will be donated to the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City. Any quilts not retrieved at the April meeting will be donated unless you contact me ahead of time to let me know you want it back. I will also accept any other quilts you wish to send to the VA. Please bring all Library items back to the next meeting. Linda is trying to get a true inventory. We know there are some items that need to be replaced, but until we see what we have already, we cannot do that.
