I love to use layers of luxurious silk, velveteen and cotton fabrics, paints, yarns and embellishments to transform fabric into wondrous landscapes where color, shape and texture play with the senses. Everyone has an organizing story or a special technique to share. As a project manager for a large technology company by day and a prolific quilt artist by night (or morning, night, weekend, whenever), I will share the various ways I have used to organize.

all-in-a-day workshops Each workshop is designed to provide opportunity for fun for all while experimenting with new techniques and materials. DOUBLE-QUILT APPLIQUE In this workshop you will learn two machine applique techniques that are easy to achieve and will open new doors to your creativity. Quickly and easily, by using just two fabrics, picking a favorite shape the fun of creating a dynamic background begins. With the background done you ll be learning how to make small quilted fabric embellishments that will become the star of your quilt. Most all students leave the workshop with one small (18 x 22 ) work well underway and some cases completed. : Serious Beginner/ Intermediate WHAT S ON TOP? Embellishments! I EMBELLISHMENTS! That¹s what. In this class we'll explore the varied and delightfully creative forms embellishments can take in our work, and how you can use all the fun and shiny objects to add drama, whimsy, character and sparkle to your quilts. You will learn skills for adding beads, bangles, buttons, found objects, personal trinkets and treasures, and even paper to your fabric art. You ll also see how to layer these embellishment elements by hand or by machine. Come and discover a new use for all your fabric scraps while creating turned, couched and fused embellishments of your very own. With this layer, upon, layer technique, your projects will be dressed up for show-and-tell, top to bottom and bottom to top, with a story you will tell through fabric, imagination and embellishments! WHAT S ON TOP? Embellishments! II Just when you thought there couldn t be more In this class the exploration of how to create and change the fabrics we use. There are fibers, paints, glues and all kinds of fun ways to dress up yes, and embellish that fabric. You ll definitely find one, two or half a dozen new loves. COLOR MAGIC! Drop that needle and open your eyes! We¹re going to take off on a visual journey that will stretch your mind to an exciting new dimension and add more color competence to your fabric creations. In this no-sew class we¹ll explore color and how to use it in our art. We¹ll look around at color in nature, in the media, in our neighborhood, at work, and at home. We¹ll reference magazines, photos, posters, brochures and whatever else tempts our imaginations and tickles our senses. We¹ll cut, paste, paint, dip and dabble in search of our own magic carpet of color, where the colors of our deepest personal expression can be found. Along the way we will capture all that we¹ve learned into a personalized COLOR MAGIC JOURNAL a record of the territory we¹ve visited for each participant to take along on his or her next color discovery tour. This workshop trains your eyes to see in a new way, and is guaranteed to enable you to see a more color-full world than you ever saw before.

more 1-day workshops... COOKING UP NEW FABRICS! Take that blah piece of white fabric and spice it up with a FABRIC PAINT MARINADE. The recipes are easy and you will learn the secrets of the great fabric chefs. Using easy to obtain and use supplies you will be able to create a feast of painted fabrics to be used in your next quilt. Never have to wear masks, measure powders or spend hours rinsing dyed fabrics again! FUN WITH CRAYONS Open new doors for designing your own fabric. You will learn how to take simple crayons and fabric paints to create exciting fabric. Yes, crayons and paint! This technique is not only easy but fun as well! By using simple materials that you may already have around the home and incorporating some of the basic elements of design and color theory we will spend the class time painting our way to new fabrics. Go home with wonderful fabrics to be used in your next quilt and the know how to keep on painting. FAST-PIECE APPLIQUÉ Fast, furious, and fantastic! In just a day together you ll learn the secret of using machine piecing and appliqué in combination to simplify complicated curves and circles, to get the perfect results you crave in your quilts. But why limit ourselves? Let s also explore how to layer your work with a wide variety of colorful, unique and unusual embellishments the kind that say YOU in your quilts, your unique signature pieces. You ll be taking home a creative appliquéd piece underway, and a mind filled with new ideas and techniques to apply in future projects. DIMENSIONAL STITCHING Want to add sparkle, light, shadow and texture to your art quilts? Have your design concepts pop? Your colors flow like rivers? Come to the Art Quilt Dimensional Stitching class and learn how to use stitching in new and exciting, non-traditional ways. No one will ever say they ve missed the point of your quilt art creation! In this class, we will take traditional linear, fill and dimensional embroidery stitches and learn how with to use them in unique and amazing ways to express life s true textures. Go home with working samples of the new art quilt dimensional stitching techniques being presented in this workshop.

two-day workshops... MY SUMMER VACATION You ve returned home from vacationing in the mountains, or at the beach, or Disney World. Now you can take all those little treasures from your time away and pull them together in one special quilt. In this workshop you ll take your favorite vacation postcards, photos and souvenirs & trinkets and turn them into a unique, colorful remembrance of your special get away. Spend two days learning to translate your mementos into a unique design, then learn how to use Fast-Piece Appliqué to create your one of a kind artful quilt and lots of different ways to incorporate all those special little vacation trinkets to your quilt. You ll take home a unique piece, created from an original design based on your vacation, along with the knowledge of Rose s special Fast-Piece Appliqué method that will allow you to use quickly and easily add curves and circles to your future projects. Length: 6 hours (each day) Level: Serious Beginner/ Intermediate DREAMIN UP LANDSCAPES Ever see a beautiful scene that you know would make an amazing quilt? In this workshop you will learn how to capture and translate your favorite landscape photographs into colorful designs and unique fabric art. You ll create your own dream landscape while learning and using Fast-Pieced Appliqué techniques and embellishments. In just two days you'll learn the secret of how this technique uses machine piecing and appliqué in combination to simplify complicated curves and circles. Additionally, explore layering your work with a wide variety of unusual embellishments so you can capture the spirit of your photos in fabric form. You ll take home a class projects and a unique piece designed from your original landscape photo, and the skills and techniques to apply in future projects. Length: 6 hours (each day) Level: Intermediate FABRIC PAINTING: NEVER PLAIN, ALWAYS SIMPLE Open new doors for designing your own fabric! On day one, you will learn how to take simple crayons and fabric paints to create your own new and exciting fabrics. Play all day with textures and learning how to create your own rubber stamps. Day two we ll take blah pieces of white fabric and spice them up with a FABRIC PAINT MARINADES. By using my basic recipes and easy to obtain and use supplies you ll be able to create a feast of large scrumptious painted fabrics. The paints used contain no dangerous dyes or chemicals. No need for facemasks or endless rinsing. Soap and water clean up, and after heat setting your fabrics are washable. Join us! You will go home with wonderful fabrics to be used in your next quilt projects and the skills to create much, much more! EMBELLISHMENTS IT S WHAT S ON TOP! Embellishment is what first introduces the viewer to your piece. It is an invitation to look further, your chance to entice and engage. Embellishments should be the additional element that ties the rest of your layers together. This may be adding the elements of line, texture or color to the work, but most importantly it adds dimension. On day one we ll be exploring a number of ways to enhance the fabric itself with paint, pens and foils. (no sewing) During day two we ll take fabric and many other types of fun embellishments for a test ride. (sewing) By the end of class you ll have a whole new vocabulary of opportunity to enhance all your fabric projects.

SCRATCHING THE SURFACE In this 2-Day class, be prepared for FUN, for we ll be exploring various ways to effect the surface of fabric, opening new doors for creating unique and inspiring fabric! On day one, you will learn how to take simple crayons and fabric paints to create your own new and exciting fabrics. Play all day with textures and learn how to create and use your own rubber stamps. Day two we will take blah pieces of fabric and learn several methods of using paint (and the art of natural-neutrals) to change the surface of a fabric. We may not scratch out a design, but you ll learn ways to add drama, whimsy, character and sparkle to your fabric and make your quilts uniquely you. The paints provided for use in this workshop contain no dangerous dyes or chemicals. No need for face masks or endless rinsing. Soap and water clean up, and after heat setting your fabrics are washable. Join the fun! You will go home with wonderful fabrics to be used in your next quilt projects and the skills to create much, much more! WILD & WOOLIE EMBELLISHED FLOWERS In this fun/fast & easy workshop you ll be working from your choice of patterns. Each pattern contains two small flower quilts options On day one, using just two fabrics, you ll learn a new way to quickly stitch up the background quilts using Fast-Piece Appliqué methods found in Rose s book, Exploring Embellishments! Day two we double the fun by learning how to use fabrics, yarns, felt and even Lutradur to create the wild and woolly flower embellishments that will take center stage on your quilted background quilts. (pattern purchase is required). Length: 6 hours (each day) Level: Confident Beginner thru Intermediate

DREAMING UP A LANDSCAPE five-day workshops... From beginning to end you ll be taking that beautiful scene you know and love and turning it into an amazing quilt! In this five day workshop you will learn and build upon your knowledge each day on how to capture and translate your favorite landscape photographs into colorful designs and unique fabric art. You ll learn the secrets of Fast-Piece Appliqué and how this technique uses machine piecing and appliqué in combination to simplify complicated curves and circles. Additionally, we ll be designing and exploring how to add layers of beads, bangles or other types of embellishments so you can capture the spirit of your photos in fabric form.
