NIMS Oct 17 In Oct 17, FEMA published a revision of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). The 17 NIMS document replaces the 08 NIMS. Slide 3 3

NIMS 17 Learning Materials Purpose & Topics In Oct 17, EMI published National Incident Management System (NIMS) '17 Learning Materials. This training is to provide information to emergency management practitioners on the key changes contained in the new NIMS '17 document. This information is provided as a bridge to deliver interim NIMS '17 document refresh information until updated NIMS courses are available. This is not intended as stand-alone training on NIMS. This training is designed as a supplement to be used in conjunction with existing legacy NIMS/ICS course materials in order to provide students with additional information on key NIMS '17 changes. Slide 4 4

Common Question - Do we need to take the classes over? No. There is no FEMA requirement to re-take the new courses. However, each agency should develop training sustainability requirements for emergency management and response personnel that meet their respective needs. At a minimum, in conjunction with participating in exercises and real events, emergency management and response personnel should refresh their NIMS training every three years. (NIMS Training Program, 2011) FEMA recommends that people take the newer versions of courses to remain current with the latest developments in NIMS. This is to help ensure they maintain knowledge and skills, especially personnel who are not regularly involved in complex multijurisdictional incidents. FEMA recommends that all instructors retake all prerequisite and primary courses they are authorized to instruct by the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Slide 16 16

EMI Goes Green (E & L Regional Deliveries) Student course materials will no longer be available in printed format. EMI will no longer provide printed copies of student manuals, handouts, and supplemental materials for in-person E and L courses. Instead, these course materials will be available to download for a period of 4 weeks prior to the scheduled course start date. Students will need a Student Identification (SID) Number in order to access the download page for these course materials. If students do not have one, you may register for a SID Number here on-line. Students who are registered for E and L courses will receive a link to the necessary course materials from their course instructors. The course materials will, with little exception, be provided in an accessible PDF form. Any student who wishes to take notes can use this resource to discover the comment, notes, and annotation functionalities built in to the free ADOBE reader for PDF files. Slide 18 18
