Grunge is a subculture, underground movement started in North West USA in the late 80s and into the early 90s. It rapidly spread into mainstream music with bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden and eventually conquered the world. It became the soundtrack of a generation. Your brief is to encapsulate the grunge movement in cake form. We want you to have complete artistic freedom in this category. You are free to take inspiration from music, clothes, art etc., from that movement. Grunge culture challenged the societal norm and conformity; let s do the same in cake! This is a standalone category. Normal rules do not apply, take advantage of this and make something awesome. Ribbon is not permitted on the exhibit itself unless specified in the particular category.

No overhang is permitted in any class which takes the piece over the maximum base area. You must place your cake in the correct allocated space assigned to you for judging. Any issues must be notified before judging commences. No late entries will be accepted. There can be no category/class changes once the entry form is submitted. Copyright - you may take inspiration from movie, books, fashion etc. but we would encourage you to use your own creativity. Cake boards must be less than 1.5 (3.81cm) thick otherwise they will be deemed to be a cake dummy. Posy picks, straws, dowels etc. should be fully inserted into the cake, the top edge of the pick/straw/dowel should be level with the icing. Tips Be careful of fingerprints, glue marks, nail marks, even covering, thickness of sugarpaste, pencil and tool marks. Make sure your work is clean. Non-edible decoration means any decoration made wholly or in part from any nonedible material. Artificial decoration means lights, soundcards etc. If a height restriction applies, include the board, measure from the table upwards. If you have damaged your piece during transportation you may request a Damaged in Transport card from the registration desk. You may note the damage on the card if you wish. If using a vase in the floral section it is a good idea to but a weight in the bottom, so it does not tip over. Remember your exhibit will be viewed from every angle.

Any queries must be submitted to MelanieU@ichf.co.uk before March 15 th 2019. No queries will be answered after this date. Queries should only relate to the rules and not individual designs.
