SEPTEMBER 2013 Mike Kennedy s excellent Gloster E.28/39 from Special Hobby 1/48th scale MEETING NOTES The September meeting was a great meeting in my opinion. We had more than thirty at my first and only count and three or four more members and family came in later in the afternoon. We conducted no business and no seminar or program was given. I had planned to do something but did not have time to get organized. So we spent the afternoon talking models, decals, new kits and air brushing. Joe Steadman attended our meeting in August and became our newest member at the September meeting. Welcome, Joe. He builds armor and paints Tamiya figures to go with his armor models. Jose Roldan gave the club a DVD, a book and a couple of mags for the door prize stash. Don Fenton gave a new armor book he purchased at the nationals for the door prize stash. Thanks to both. Joe Steadman brought a Tamiya air compressor and his Paasche air brush to get some help with a couple of problems that he had using it. Don Fenton offered Joe some expert advice and within a couple of minutes had the pressure up and the air brush working like a charm. Joe was using 1

Fabian Nevarez s Mirage F1CZ in 1/48th scale MEETING NOTES the number 5 air head and needle and was having some problems with over spray. John Estes changed the air head and needle to the number one unit which should have fixed that problem. Steve Herren asked about having a build night. In several of the newsletters that we get from around the country, we read that some of the clubs meet multiple times during the month and several conduct build only meetings. I think this would be great if enough interest is how by the membership. We have several modelers that have built from 30 to 60 plus years that could pass information on to the guys and girls that are just getting back into the hobby as a serious past time. All we need is a time and a place to do this. Give this some thought and we will discuss it at a meeting. Fabian Nevarez took several pictures of the membership and then set up our photo equipment and said that he got some nice pictures for this issue. Charlie Flores Yak-15 in 1/72nd scale. Charlie Flores brought an Airfix 1/72nd scale Spitfire Mk IXc and a PM Models Yak-15 in 1/72nd scale. Charlie has some more unusual models on the table and should have at least one new one to show next month. SHOW AND TELL Carlos Delgado had an A-6 Prowler from Hasegawa kit in 1/72nd scale and an F-15 Eagle in 1/48th from Revell kit with some interesting digital camouflage. He also brought a Dragon 1/35th scale Jagdtiger to show. 2

SHOW & TELL Carlos Delgado s EA-6 Prowler in 1/72nd scale Carlos Delgado s F-15 Eagle in 1/48th scale Steve Herren s 2009 Corvette in 1/25th scale Steve Herren brought an 09 Corvette built from the AMT 1/25th scale model. Steve said that he tried some new techniques he had learned from a couple of previous meetings. Looked great. 3

SHOW AND TELL Gerhard Gotzmann s F4-F in 1/72nd scale Gerhard Gotzmann brought an excellent F4-F Phantom marked in the 50 year anniversary Richthofen Geschwader JG 71 paint scheme. He built this beauty from the Revell 1/72nd scale kit and used the kit decals. Quote Gerhard: good decals but a real challenge to make them fit right. He also had a Revell 1/144th scale B-2 Spirit. This was a snap tight kit brought home from the grocery store by his wife (I love her, his aside.) This kit consists of about 7 parts and he used after market decals from Begemot which are very fast decals, two seconds in the water and they are off the backing sheets. He painted it with paint mixed from Master Touch acrylic tubes. Nice. Editor s note: Nice presentation of your information, Gerhard. Thank you. Charlie Flores Spitfire Mk IXc in 1/72nd scale. 4

SHOW AND TELL Michael King s 1/72 scale DeHavilland Beaver and DeHavilland Otter Michael King brought two Hobbycraft models in 1/72 scale, the frist a DH Beaver and the other a DH Otter. Both aircraft were marked in the Northern Artic Research Expedition markings. Colorful and the pair,a nice presentation. Michael Kennedy brought an interesting model to show. He had the Special Hobby 1/48th scale Gloster E.28/39, the pioneer British Jet. Mike did not say specifically but I got the impression that this may have been a difficult build, which displays some more of Michael s outstanding effort. Gerhard Gotzmann s B-2 Bomber in 1/144th scale 5

SHOW AND TELL Carlos Delgado s Jagdtiger in 1/35th scale Edward Rogers brought his Revell Jolly Green Giant mixed with the Amicam S k y w a l k e r f i g h t e r. Interesting concept. Jose Roldan brought a C57 SpaceCruiser in 1/144tgh scale. As WIP s, Jose had a Yak-3 and an X-15, kits not listed. His last effort was a wood Godzilla. Eduard Rogers What-If, CH-53 in 1/48th Joseph Roper s Hawk Missle Command Post and Illuminator in 1/32nd scale J o s e p h R o p e r h a d a n improved Command Post for the Hawk Missle set. He also brought an Improved Illuminator for the Hawk Missile kit. These were in 1/32nd scale and were scratch built. Julio Sanchez had the new HK 1/32nd scale B-17 as a work in progress. This is one big kit and has hundreds of parts. 6

President s Musings and Ramblings by John Estes A guy from Ft. Worth invited all the area readers of the web site HyperScale to attend their club meeting last Sunday and he said that there were no visitors that responded to his invitation. Someone responded on Hyper Scale that having a meeting on a Sunday during football season must be a huge mistake. We had our first Sunday meeting at my house in May 1970 and have met on Sundays every month since that time. You that read the GLUE have read my joking comment that the NFL did not check with us to see if the Super Bowl game could be held during our meeting time and date at least for the past five or six years. I guess we have been doing something wrong to have our meeting on Sunday now for some 43 years. Every meeting Sunday, my wife tells me to have fun as I leave the house to go and open the church for our meetings. I always say, Oh Yeah. I almost always leave the meetings enthused about modeling and I usually have a great time. The September meeting was one of those where I left thinking that we have a great bunch of modelers in our membership and what g a good meeting this one was. I have missed only a couple of meetings since that first time when we met at my house. I plan my month around the monthly meeting and several months I have missed luncheons at church so that I could get home in time to be ready to open the church where we meet and set up tables, etc., to get ready for our meetings. When my wife had a stroke early this summer, my daughter insisted on staying with her so that I could attend the club meetings. I have read in several other newsletters what a great experience the National convention was last month. We sponsored three of the categories and one of the special awards sections. Thanks to all of you that are current members of IPMS. You guys voted for us to have a gathering on the Saturday of the Nationals for those that could not go to Colorado. We held it but few of you came to the event. We had pictures of the event but because of the size of the pictures, I lost some of the focus and clarity needed to print them. All that attended had a good time, especially Jim Davis and myself, as Jim brought our usual Saturday meal over for us to eat. The other guys only won medals for their entries. We got to eat. The Bassett Show was a success and pictures of the event are on the IPMS Gallery. The Veteran s Day Bassett Place Mall Show is coming up on November 10. Dust off your targets and your military models to bring to that event. John Estes Jose Roldan s C57 SpaceCruiser in 1/144th scale and wood Godzilla. 7
