Overview Piezo driver MTAD002 is a linear amplifier with high precision and low noise, designed to drive capacitive load such as piezoelectric actuators. A DC bias can be applied easily for different intended driving patterns with the knob attached. The device is equipped with a built-in protector to detect malfunction such as overload and short circuit when the average output current exceeds 2.2A or the peak output current exceeds 20A. A BNC connector is attached for monitoring the output voltage by converting the output voltage to /0. MTAD002 is equipped with a built-in signal generator. With MTAD002, piezoelectric actuators can be driven at any intended driving waveforms or with a closed loop control system without extra connection to the external signal generator. Driving an external signal is also possible by switching the toggle switch attached on the panel. 2 List of Contents. MTAD 002 2. Power supply cable 3. USB cable. Instruction manual. Operation. Front Panel Overview 9 2 3 [Power] 2 [Monitor] :Main switch of MTAD002 :Monitor BNC connector for /0 of the output voltage. 3[Output] [Toggle switch] :Output BNC connector. :Switch between local signal from internal signal generator and external signal. [Signal in] [USB In] : BNC connector for external signal. :USB port for connection between internal signal generator and computer. [Reset] [Voltage Display] [Bias Voltage] :Reset button when overload or short circuit occurs. :Display for output voltage. :Multi-turn potentiometer knob for DC bias voltage.

When driving with internal signal, use the attached USB cable to connect between [USB in] of the front panel with the respective PC. When driving with external signal, use the BNC cable to connect between [Signal in] of the front panel with external signal generator. To monitor output signal, connect [Monitor] in the front panel with oscilloscope using BNC cable.

Note on cable related Please use 0Ω BNC cable to connect with the main device. Please insert the BNC cable to BNC connector, align the cable axis with connector axis. When it seems difficult to insert the cable, make sure that there is no hard object stuck in the connector. Be careful that the connector may be damaged if extra force is applied when connecting the cable. 2) Operation manual <Common operation> a) Confirm the connection mentioned in the previous section. b) Make sure that the front panel [Bias Voltage] knob is at 0 (0v) position. c) Switch on the [Power] switch. When driving this device using external signal, it is recommended turn on the external signal generation device in advance. <Driving with internal signal> a) Switch the [Toggle switch] to [Local Signal] side. b) Confirm PC connection. When MTAD002 is properly connected with PC, the LED above [USB In] will light up. (per the following Picture) c) Start up the signal generation software in the PC. d) Set the necessary parameters for the desired signal ware and generate the signal. Picture: Connection to [USB In]

<Driving with external signal> a) Confirm that the [Signal In] is connected to external signal generator. b) Switch the [Toggle switch] to [External Signal] side. c) Make sure that MTAD002 power is Off, and switch On the external signal generator device. d) Switch On MTAD002, and input control signal from external signal generator. The gain of MTAD002 is 0V/V. Therefore, make sure the input signal range is within -0.V and 3V to avoid severe damage to the device. <When applying DC bias manually> a) Confirm that [Output] is connected to capacitive load, and turn the [Bias Voltage] knob to desired voltage clockwise. The voltage value can be observed in [Voltage Display]. <Closing operation> a) Shut down the signal generation software. b) Switch Off the MTAD002. It is very dangerous to remove the USB cable when the power supply is On. Make sure that MTAD002 is switched Off before removing the USB cable connected between PC and MTAD002. Removing the USB cable when power supply is on will increase the noise and voltage will be applied to the piezo actuator. 3) Overload protection circuit The built-in protector will be activated when the peak current exceeds 20A. When the built-in protector is activated, the [Reset] button light will turn on. Press the button to reset the device. Only reset after making sure that there is no overload or short circuit.
